Single Player game seems sluggish.

Didn't happen in the Beta

I just started a Single Player Tournament and am surprised at how laggy and sluggish the gameplay was.

When I was playing the Beta, everything was smooth at High Settings.

It felt as though that I had turned on FRAPs or a recording software.

I think I may have solved it. I had to restart the PC after downloading the game. :D

LeeWizcraft: Systrem specs?  Drivers up to date?

I have decent pc here and it is lagging out like no other new game I have.

GTX 260 BFG flavour 896MB

E8500

2GB RAM

Going to update nvidia drivers right now and re-try.

Most of the time it plays very smooth. But every so often, for anywhere for 5-20 seconds or so, the framerate drops a ton, then goes back to normal. This did not happen in the beta, and I'm running with the same settings.

WinXP SP3, Intel E6600, 2 GB RAM, NVIDIA GF8800 GTS, driver version 182.05.

The first boot was running slowly, but I just rebooted impulse and it was smooth as a whistle ^^

I rebooted it and it seemed ok for a bit, but then the periodic framerate slowness came back. It's as if some process kicks off for a small period of time, then goes away. Definitely strange.

Yeah I just got this too (I posted it in my Performance thread in the general section).  The first time I played things were running fine.  The second time the entire game seemed to run at 50% the original speed.  I haven't restarted tho...I'll try that I guess.

The last few games in SP tournament I played were fine. I've only played SP so far, but sometimes I'm logged in to my online account. Maybe some process in Demigod is querying the servers which is causing it to slow down?

Updated drivers and rebooted. I've played about 10 games now in single player without a single issue.

yea a reboot worked for me too.  guess it didn't like the idea of being forced to actually do anything right after an installation

Have you checked if Impulse and Impulse Now (the sys tray app) are closed before starting a tournament game?

Impulse and anything Impulse related is not running. No other main apps are running.

Nothing about my PC setup is different since I last played the beta. There's something about the full version of the game that's clearly different than the beta. Tons of bugfixes, moficiations, and the entire single player component. Something in there is dragging down the framerate every so often.

Most of this should be addressed with the latest updates.  A lot was due to poor server response from being hammered on release day (still talks to the servers to check for updates, even on single player in the menus).  Anyone still having issues?

Still, while playing the game in single player, it'll be fine for the longest time, then simply drag to a crawl for a while for no good reason, then go back to normal. I've updated my sound drivers. Something is just different, since this never happened with the beta. It has nothing to do with the menus.

I'm experiencing this as well. Most of the time the frame rate is great but occasionaly it will slow down at a constant interval, even when there is nothing really going on on my screen.

LATEST ISSUE: It appears that there are issues with Google Desktop and Demigod on Windows XP.  Does this apply to anyone in this thread having issues?

No, I don't have Google Desktop.

For me the issue seems to only happen in single player, with many AI players, and manifest itself late game.  When it occurs, usually the problem goes away if I zoom in close.  It's an on/off thing: either the framerate is great, or it's terrible. I think there's some kind of issue occuring due to AI processing, which sucks down the framerate, until something "magically" fixes itself.

I am running on XP, but my issue is slightly different. With /nosound on, I get a nice 30-40 FPS in single player. With the sound on, my FPS drops to 2-3 FPS halfway through a single player match. I am running on XP, but I don't have Google Desktop installed.

Are you guys looking into this? Because it isn't mentioned anywhere in Frogboy's situation updates? Or should I give up and come back in some months?

Wondering the same thing here; want to get some time in online but it's not worth it when framerates drop so much and sucks playing without sound. Any official word on this?

Make sure things like your antivirus aren't updating in the background - this will significantly lower your sim speed (i've seen people go down to -5)

Aryanna and Renwold, your issue sounds like mine. Does the problem go away if you zoom in on your Demigod?  Zoom and move around to a different part of the map?  I've noticed this can help at times.

Also, does it happen in multiplayer?

Like I said, I think this happens when the AI calls get to be too much, it overloads the processing, and sucks the framerate down.

Zooming out doesn't make the problem go away. MP? I didn't even touch MP yet, because of all the issues I'm already having (getting the game to work properly). The only thing that helps is, like I said, put the /nosound option in. With the /nosound option I have absolutely no problem whatsoever (except that I don't hear any sound obviously, which is highly irritating). I run the whole match with 30-40 FPS and round and about 4-5 simspeed. Without /nosound, I start off with that, but some minutes in, the FPS drops to 2-3 and the simspeed to -1/-2.
