To Demigod Pirates

Demigod pirates, if you enjoy the game you should buy it. $40 may seem insignificant to a corporation, but as in democratic elections, it adds up.

Purchasing Demigod will support 2 companies (GPG and Stardock) who have confirmed a dedication to improvement. It will encourage updates and expansions. It will lead other companies to follow suit. It will help in bettering a product you already enjoy.

hmmm, unfortunatly, in a wide amount of case, the pirating thing is not a "money shortage", but a "why spend 40$ when i can have it free? i'm smart... bwhahahaha"
You are wrong. I'm talking as a teenager. We don't have money to throw around. There are many people who buy games... you can see them on forums, marching together to burn all the pirates on the forum. 99% of them are people who don't live with their parents anymore (= they have their own income).
End of comanoodle's quote

Really? Is that why they all act like little shits and waste our time over Hamachi and Game Ranger when we ask if they're legit versions? Or make posts to the forum QQ'ing because Stardock won't support them and their pirated copies?

Dude, your age doesn't justify it. It's only proving that you want to be an immature brat over taking responsibility for yourself.

For me the game isn't worth $40. Why? The game itself built for multiplayer gaming, plus bot. No story mode and most important, tutorial! I would love to see how the DGs meet each other one by one. I actually pirated the game at first, but then decided to buy it. I see Demigod has bright future. Only if Stardock/GPG can upcome the connection problem plus some new DGs, I bet this game capable to replace Warcraft III/DotA, which made the genre popular. Go go Stardock/GPG!!

The piraters of games probably don't have any money left from buying porn and therefore must resort to pirating just so they can see Queen of Thorns and her girls...

Why would piraters buy porn instead of downloading that too? ;)

I think we need ninjas to seek and destroy pirates.  Although Black Beard was a serious ass-kicking pirate.  We need new names for the "scum-of-video-game-copying-whores" probably most of which are teenagers or old men who haven't seen a pink taco besides what they find on pornotube!

A lot of the pirates I played with are having fun and will buy it once they fix the online play to an acceptable level. Especially since they won't be getting patches to further balance/improve the game.

The game price of $40 is actually a deal if you are thinking about the long run. Its a great pick up game to play whenever and yuo don't have to pay monthly.

In 6 months-1 year this game will really come into its own. If not sooner.

You know, I'll be honest, I pirate a lot of games off Demonoid and usually buy the ones that really impress me.  Unfortunately in this day and age, there aren't many impressive games out there.

This was the first game in a LONG time that I've straight-out bought on release.  I knew they were a small company and I figured they could use the help.  The trailers made the game look really enjoyable and I'm a big fan of DotA.

Well, as I should have expected, this game is -- currently -- shareware-quality junk.  EIGHT Demi-gods and a handful of maps?  Graphical glitches and a bare-bones GUI? Random freezes during loading screens and gameplay?  Nonexistent singleplayer? A completely trainwrecked network?  I acknowledge that the network problems are in large part DUE to the pirates themselves, but why on Earth design the game to make server contact just by opening the main menu?

A lot of people will pirate games regardless of quality, but a big part of it has to do with companies releasing things unfinished and at least a month before they're actually complete.  Charging $40 for this game right now is as bad a form of thievery as the pirates who are torrenting the game.  Both are unethical.

The funny thing is, the LAST game I paid full price for at launch was ... Hellgate: London.  :typo:   I hope this company has better luck salvaging their product.  Unlike Hellgate, I think this game is actually structually sound, and has a lot of potential over the coming months.

I download full games to try them out and then decide on the buy. I think that's OK, even if it is somewhat illegal. What I think it's not only illegal but inmoral is to download a game, have fun with it playing a lot of time, and not paying the money it's worth.

I didn't download Demigod. I got the pre-order a long time ago, over six months. It isn't the first game I pre-order from Stardock, the other one was Sins of a Solar Empire. That's what happens when a company earns your trust: quality games, regular patches listening to the community, good customer support, and no pesky DRM (just the key to play online and get updates, no hassle in that). Stardock earned my trust with GalCiv2, so I support them.

This is obviously a multiplayer game, pirates that enjoy it will buy it. I think it is a good omen that 100,000 people d/l it since they will have a chance to try it.

It is sad that the piracy affected the game play at launch but now that it is corrected, the game will only be better.

Pirates are gamers like me and you and they probably buy more games then any "normal" person. At a certain point, you want to try a game before you buy it; the example of Spore above is correct: if you only look at the advertising any game is the best of all time...

Anyway, if you pirates read this, just spend $40 on this one, the single player portion of this game is nothing compare to the multi-player.

So the pirates will run out and buy this game only to find they spent $40.00 for the multiplayer component of the game that is broken beyond recognition?  Let's wait a week and hope it all gets fixed and then encourage people to buy the game.  I have several friends that bought the game and won't touch it with a ten foot pole because of the frustration of getting the MP component going.

Amen.

For peeps who compare it to the 90+ something characters in DoTA, I'd like to remind people that wasn't a stand alone game, that was just a really, really well done map where the creators got to use an already existing game (not engine, a whole freaking game). Every character and model here was from the ground up; every map wasn't made using some crap tile generator of a decade's old game. The 8 maps are awesomely structured in terms of arena-style lay out and not really giving an edge to any players. The 8 Demigods each have a ton of build specs that we're still discovering the combinations for them. And I'd argue all 8 of them are getting some good play and while they have different styles, in a team environment none of them outshine the other.

But, ya know, give a gaming community free ice cream for life, they're going to bitch about no whip cream or a cherrie.

I didn't ask for 90+ characters...  But eight characters and less than a dozen uninspired geometric maps is a little paltry for the price, don't you think?  I mean, this is the ONLY thing this game has, so I'm expecting it to wow me.  Do you realize that any of the maps would take a 3D modeler about 3 hours to build and texture from scratch?

I was a little harsh calling it shareware junk -- it's a fun game -- but honestly, $19.99 is a fair price.  If you don't think so, your standards are a little low and gaming companies in general probably love you.  I'm tired of games that are "just okay" and pushed out the door before completion.  Until that changes, I'll continue to pirate before buying.

EDIT:  And also, you're right, DotA borrows all of its models and engine from WCIII.  But WCIII at launch was only about 8 dollars more than the physical copy of Demigod you can buy now, and it had/has about 100x the content, polish, and development time.  I know it's a product of Blizzard so that's to be expected with their budget, but I think market price should reflect the product.  I don't believe in giving pity cash to smaller companies -- If they make an inferior product, for whatever the reason, I want to pay less for it.

I feel I should add my voice, I am one of the 'evil' pirates who stole the game (25 year-old programmer, for those questioning my maturity), because I am sick of the shoddy quality of games at release, both technically and in terms of gameplay.  I wont buy a game I have not tried or had a friend recommend to me, and there was no demo for Demigod.  So to the dark ship it was, and if it wasnt for them there would be two less Demigod players that I know of.  I will probably recommend the game to people who ask about it as well, because despite the current problems with multiplayer, the companies involved have a history of making things right.  The world is not black and white.

Do they?  I haven't heard of them before.  I'll take your word for it and hold out hope.

I'm coming off a bad high from Hellgate London, so my trust is a little bent out of shape..

True but to be fair there are sites like http://www.tf2maps.net/ which produce custom maps.

To be fair a lot will change as well when you guys release the editor =)

Really? So when you are still playing WoW with its mirrored characters and look to see ALL THE CONTENT for its games even WoW... are player given content, maps and/or add-ons and looks to see WoW's suscriber count *11million* times that by the monthly cost to play.. *15.99* and see they are making $175,890,000 a month to give nothing back towards the players, towards content, cost etc.....

You still want to support them?

I've seen more posts by Dev's here then i have ever seen on the WoW forums because these guys care about your $$ despite what you think and they have a great sense of humor *i liked reading the manual*

Ok there is one thing preventing me from buying the game, performance. On my AMD600+(2x3.0Ghz), geforce 9800gt(1gb ram), 4GB sys ram, cfi xtream audio; it's laggy as hell, sound starts to hiccup and at that time the game laggs out horribly. If i am to buy this game i expect it to work... according to recomended sys req it very well should. I'll test it with different drivers and see if that helps, but if it doesent i'll be glad i pirated it and saw that the game wasent for me.  There is always dota :P

I'll always try out games before i buy them, no matter what company it's from... if i like it and it works fine on my system i'll buy it. If not... delete! I dont care what you think about this, you probalby have enough money so you dont really miss 40$ if you screw a game up, but i'm a poor student who has to work his ass off for that money... so sue me if you can :) but i'll still try the games out first so i ensure my money is well spent.

I would not advise people to purchase the game as it stands. The most pain free way to find matches is to use hamachi with a pirated version. Purchasing a legit copy just isn't worth it.

Well, I hope that at least one thing came of this:  Those who pirate see that there actions sometimes do really effect others negatively; in this case, lower reveiws, frustrating legitimate paying customers, and, if you have ANY empathy at all, just imagine all the workers at SD losing their vacation (probably the ONLY time they would get off between the years working on this game, and it's post release), and working 12+ hour days to fix the mess.  Not to metion their families, who probably thought "Yay, Daddy can finally do stuff with us now!"  Then: "Sorry, daddy can't spend the week with you darling, he has to go work like a coal-miner till 2am for a week or two because of pirates".

Pirates = "Go look for your own Easter eggs little girl." :'(
