Insectoid Demigod - The Dire Wasp

A creepy crawley demigod to give you nightmares

My main idea behind this hero is that it has 2 states, much like the Queen of Thorns or Torchbearer, however, it is not simply a case of switching between them.

The general idea is that the insect starts out as a larvae with weak offense but strong defense. At level 4, the Dire Waspe gains the ability to inject an enemy player with an egg, dealing high damage over time, but gradually slowing the enemy to a halt after 15 seconds. At which point, the Dire Wasp true form emerges as a nightmarish wasp-like creature with massive offensive damage but weaker defensive capability. The Dire Wasp will revert back to its Larval state if the player dies, or if the player chooses to do so.

Demigod Type:

Assassin

Larval State:

The Dire Wasp would start in a Larval state, with a ranged spitting attack and + 25% armor bonus but - 25% attack damage.

Appearance:

In the larval state, the Dire Wasp would resemble a massive earth-coloured maggot or caterpillar with hardened scales and spines, leaving a slimey trail in its wake.

Larval Abilities:

Poisoned Spines: Passive. Deals 25/50/75/100% return damage to any units that attack the Dire Wasp in melee combat while in Larval form.

Toughened Carapace: Passive. Increases Armor in Larval form by (placeholder values) 300/700/1100/1500

Corrosive Bile: 1 second cast, long ranged. Ranged attack which reduces the targets hp regeneration by 10/20/30/40 for 15 seconds and deals 250/500/750 damage over that time.

Infest: medium ranged. instant cast. Injects an enemy player with the wasps egg and leaves behind an empty shell. Silences the enemy whilst dealing 500/1000/1500 damage over 15 seconds and gradually slows them to a halt, during this time the Dire Wasp  cannot move or attack but can see the infected players movements. Once the effect ends, the Dire Wasp will burst out of the infected player as a giant wasp with full hp and mana & all new abilities.

Wasp State:

In its wasp state, the Dire Wasp has a melee attack with its stinger and gains +25% attack damage, but looses 25% armor.

Appearance:

Something like this!

Wasp

Abilities:

Corrosive Bile: See Larval form description above.

Poison Stinger: A short range instant attack which stuns a targetted enemy for 2/3/4/5 seconds and deals 400/600/800/1000 damage.

Wings of Evil: Passively increases movement speed and attack speed by 10/20/30/40%

Wicked Venom: Passive. All attacks deal an additional 100/200/300/400 damage over 10 seconds and reduce the targets armor by 200/400/600/800. Does not stack.

Cocoon: 1 second cast. The Dire Wasp turns into a cocoon and is invulnerable but unable to move for 5 seconds, once this effect ends the Dire Wasp will revert back into larval form, and will be unable to cast the Infest ability for 100 seconds.

Playstyle:

As you can imagine, this character would require some careful balancing to ensure it doesn't become massively overpowered, as it is a double edged sword of offensive power and defensive stength.

Harassment and some tanking would be the name of the game early on, waiting for the perfect time to strike with Infest, then unleashing a cavalcade of fast moving, fast hitting damage on the enemy in wasp mode, but risking it all in the process.

Hope you like the idea, and more so, that SD implement it one day.

I think robo cop should be a demi-god...use his 'robo-stomp' ability to instantly obliterate all insects...

Hmm, interesting, but I'm not too sure how it'd work out. For one thing, it doesn't really fit in the Demigod universe. A giant insectoid... diety? The patron goddess of ants and wasps? Read the current Demigods' backstories in the character select screen, and ask yourself what the hell you could write to make this character fit?

As for the abilities, in general I think they do too much damage, are too fast (an INSTANT, silencing, immobilizing attack that does 1500 damage over time AND fully regenerates the player? OH VER KILL.) and almost all of them are WAY overpowered (Wings of evil? You realize how much 40% move/attack bonus is?) Also, some of them are kind of bland. Almost all of them revolve around doing damage, there isn't enough to mix it up. Think up some skills that are interesting or can change a situation, not just damage someone. Think up things that would be distinct for your character, I mean, I could rename half those skills and we'd have abilities already in the game.

For example, how about an insect swarm that burrows into nearby minions heads and temporarily turns them against the enemy? Or the ability to lay down an insectoid ooze slick that slows down enemies when they walk through it?

Sorry, but overall I think this character needs some serious re-thinking, mainly because it doesn't really fit inside the established Demigod themes.

I kind of like the idea of an insectoid Demigod.

Many of the abilities are place-holders, as are the figures. I just made them up as I went along, the core idea is that the larval form is defensive, and the wasp form offensive.

In terms of lore, considering the somewhat ambiguous nature of the current Demigods, I'm sure I could write up a backstory involving a race of hive-dwelling insects that worship this diety.

Also, on the Inject ability, the reason behind the silence is so that players don't just teleport to their base once infected, the slow is perhaps unnecessary, and the damage may be too high, as I said, these are just placeholders.

We could theorycraft all day on the exact figures and effects, but trying to balance something without the ability to actually see how it plays out in the game first hand is more or less impossible.

This is a better CONCEPT than most with the skills.. the whole way it switches and all.  A conditional switch form is a nice idea, I'm just not sure if that's the right condition.

But I'm not sure how you think 15 second silence and a 5 second stun is balanced..

Or +40% IAs/movespeed holy crap..

Either way, seems like UB with 2 forms. :/  High melee damage and DPs stuff..

When under 30% she goes into wtfBBQ mode with all damage increased by 200% and passively stunning everything around her.

I agree with tradleon, the dg has too much focus on atack, mix it up get new abilities, the ability to take control of enemy minios and creeps is good. Alsoo i think that you should change the way that the tranformations occur, but thats just a personal recommendation, it has nothing to do with the viability of the DG.

Story wise, im not very good, but how about, a botanist (which was DG), he loved the wasp and other insects, one day he discovered a stone and after studying it he discover that it was able to evolve creatures to a powerfull and more wicked being, he decided to evolve a wasp and use its power to tranfer his DG powers and his conciousness to the wasp, after he evolved the wasp with the stone to a point where the wasp was more powerfull than him, he than proceeded to tansfer his power, but he understimated the stone, the evil of the wasp simply took over the botanist conciousness and such we got a very powerfull wasp with DG powers and a innate evil.
