{Utility release} Mod updater*v1.193 now out*and all of my modding utilites update 18/11/2011 trinity friendly

a utility to UPDATE mods to entrenchment 1.053 includes diplomacy 1.034 original sins 1.193 & trinity 1.034

I am announcing a new utility that can copy all of a players MODS AND update the mods to a new patch.

at present it it can update mods in txt form from entrenchment 1.01 &1.02 to entrenchment 1.03 and sins 1.15-6 to 1.17, it works in a similar way to my map updater ie it first copies the files from the source folder( and it does copy ALL files and folders), it then reads in the entity file from the destination folder, re-names the entity to entold, checks to see if it needs the changes and makes the nessacary changes and saves the corrected entity. I have already tested it with manshooters dynamic v0.9b and my own megastarbases mod (both in txt form and it copied and updated both in 33 seconds, but the more mods and the larger the mods and also if the mods ar binned  the SLOWER the updating time. eg with celestial bodies v0.8b, ds entrenchment beta 0.7, dynamic 0.9b, firefall 2.2, ms entrench v2.22, requiem 2.2, sins of the 13th tribe v0.4, unknown darkness beta 0.01 and my megastarbases mod (totaling 3.9GB of files) it took 40 minutes to update all of them.

and as the entity files in the mods ARE updated you only need to run the utility when a new patch to entrenchment comes out and I have supplied updated instructions to the program.

the links for old versions have been removed

I have been given permission to include the convertdata*.exe's with my utilities so I am now releasing my utility pack

I have released all of my modding utilities/tools in one archive  and INCLUDED the NOW needed convertdata*.exe's from all of the sins versions that my utilities support, ie sins 1.15,1,16 & 1.17 and also entrenchment 1.01,1.02, & 1.03

also I made sure that the correct targetsinsver.txt is included

1/1/2010 the latest version which has the updated program for the textbin gui and diplomacy compatibility is now up at

7/2/ 2010 uploaded the 1.19 release of the utilities including the latest mod updater which is set to ignore the 5 fx files that can cause dumps in entrenchment mods

19/2/2010 latest version of the complete modding utiities with the essentals files incuded is up at

the latest version is up at http://www.filefactory.com/file/b0b3g8a/n/harpo_sins_utilities_1.191_e_d.rar

now also at http://www.filefront.com/15858795/harpo-sins-utilities-1.191ed.rar/

and the dip 1.21 version http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8023186/sins%20mods/harpo%20sins%20utilities%20for%20sins%201.191%2Cent%201.051%2Cd1.21.rar

I have tested this version on 32 bit & 64 bit sins, entrenchment & diplomacy, the only issue is a overflow value with many mods in a mod folder. I will fix this in the next version

just a reminder if you are getting an error stating that sins version found ::: need version 1.1.9 then you NEED the registry keys that point to the sins install folder for 32bit windows

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Drengin.net\sins

for 64bit windows

HKLM>SOFTWARE>Wow6432Node>Stardock>Drengin.net>sins

and they should have a Path string value that contains the EXACT path to the sins game folder

the latest version includes the use of the sinstrinity registry key to find the path to the sins install if the sins path key is blank, and also a probable fix for the error 76 (path not found) error that appears to be caused by having a '\' at the end of the sins(trinity) path, so you do NOT need to edit the registry entries

here is the drop box link

and the file factory link

and now the utility pack with diplomacy 1.3 and trinity 1.3 convertdata btw I do not recommend using the mod updater to update the mods to diplomacy 1.3 as there are a large number of changes in the playerRACE.entity files and the entity manifest, and new and removed pacts compared with diplomacy 1.21

corrected the link above, the above link archive NOW has the diplomacy1.21 convertdata

and the first link for the utility pack with convertdatadiplomacy 1.31(file factory)

utility pack convertdatadiplomacy 1.31 (drop box)

updated the utility pack for the latest patch and the mod updater WILL update original mods to 1.192, entrenchment (still uses the 1.051 folder so no update) and diplomacy 1.3# to 1.33

filefactory link to full utility pack for o1.192 e 1.052 d/t 1.33

18/11/2011 updated the utilities  to the latest steam compatable patch ie original 1.193, entrenchment 1.053, diplomacy 1.34, trinity 1.34 AND updated the manifest maker to remove the two entities that diplomacy no longer wants

filefactory latest utility pack for O1.193 e1.053 d1.34 t1.34

canadaman777, which mod is it?

also it might be due to a missing essential ocx (I forgot to include a required ocx in the latest archive, but if you had overwritten the older file with the latest the missing file would not happen) here is the link to the essentials.

hope this helps.

if not could you let me know which mod is the problem one, so I  can test in my house

Its the Halo mod I'm making, and I haven't released it yet.

Just tried over-righting with the essentials, and that didn't work yet.

I pm you a link to the beta so you can see if you can update.

Hey, I just downloaded the new utilities. I'm wanting to update the Distant Stars mod to Diplomacy 1.01 so I can convert the files over to text. I've gotten the BIN/TXT converter to work just fine, but I can't get the mod updater to work at all. I've got the mod in the 1.00 mod folder. I created a new folder in the 1.01 mod folder by the same name as the mod's folder in 1.00. I've single clicked the Distant Stars mod folder both for the reference folder in 1.00 and the destination in 1.01. I go to convert, and I get this error message: sorry wrong folder NO conversion instructions available. What do I need to do to get this to work? Thanks.

Hey Harpo,

Just wondering if you have the reference files for diplomacy v1.01 zipped up and posted somewhere?  I didn't notice any links for just the reference data anywhere in your thread.  I did find your reference set for v1.00 linked somewhere else on the forums but haven't spotted a v1.01 set yet.

Heh.  You've become my "go to" guy for reference data after patches it seems.

Harpo be the man...all others are man-wannabes.  Please continue posting any addenda on bugs or caveats with this so I don't confuse my poor proggies worse than they have been.  I'll be usng this shortly.

dolynick I had uploaded my reference diplomacy 1.01 just did not post a link to it as I could not see the thread easily and my main machine decided it wanted to crash(minor grade just a windows hickup), BUT you can create your own just by copying the game folder to your reference area, adding the version number to the folder name in your reference area getting the latest utilities after i release them for the version and using them on the reference folder, which is what I do., but here is a link to the diplomacy 1.01

aeyikanryer, the current mod updater updates ALL MODS from one version to the next, not just one mod but ALL of the mods that do not exist in in the destination folder, but from what i have seen you will need to use the manifest maker to add the extra entities to the manifests for all NON-TC mods. and I did screw up in that I gave the wrong file name two the two instruction files for diplomacy 1.00 updating. the quick fix is to rename the SMods-Diplomacy v1.01.txt and DMods-Diplomacy v1.01.txt to SMods-Diplomacy v1.00.txt and DMods-Diplomacy v1.00.txt. that is the sort of issue that happens when you try and rush out updates without testing everything

I'll change the instruction file names and see if that works. Distant Stars is the only mod I have for Diplomacy 1.00, so it should be the only thing that the updater is updating.

I'm trying to convert 7 Deadly Sins to v1.19.  And most of it worked except for about 10 different abilities.

Below is the updatefailed txt file that was produced when these didn't convert.  Am I using the wrong version to convert from.  I'm not exactly sure how old this mod is, it says 1.3d but not sure if thats v1.81 in sins or older.  Any help is appreciated.

*Edit:  I'm not using entrenchment or diplomacy.

these files failed to be converted so that they could be checked for updating
The converter used to read was ConvertData_OriginalSins1.181.exe
The converter used to write was ConvertData_OriginalSins1.19.exe
7 DEADLY SINS 1.3d\GameInfo\AbilityBuildPirateFighters.entity
7 DEADLY SINS 1.3d\GameInfo\AbilityDeploySiegeTurretP.entity
7 DEADLY SINS 1.3d\GameInfo\AbilityDeployWHDrone.entity
7 DEADLY SINS 1.3d\GameInfo\AbilityDisruptMissile.entity
7 DEADLY SINS 1.3d\GameInfo\AbilityExpertPilot.entity

my copy of 7 deadly sins 1.3d is dated 4/6/2008(4th of june 2008), which suggests it to be for vanilla sins 1.05, and also the later 7 deadly sins 2.1 was also for vanilla sins 1.05.there are a huge number of changes in many areas not just the entity files, but also the textures having had the various channels swapped around which from memory happened about the time of vanilla sins 1.10 and managed to break many mods. in the early days of the mod updater i had attempted to add the ability to update mods from 1.05 to the then current 1.15, but I did not have ANY success with the updating.

what I would suggest is to create a folder wih the name of mods-v1.05, copy the source version of the 7deadly sins into the folder, then obtain a copy of convertdata.exe from sins 1.05 and try to convert the files to tet with it, but from what i remember the convertdata's in that era would only convert TO bin, and not convert back to txt.

I tried to update Celestial Bodies for Diplomacy 1.00 to Diplomacy 1.01 with your updater, Harpo. The updater worked fine, but now when I try to activate the mod I get a minidump.

Does this thing ever work right?

restlessmind, there are 3 new entity files in diplomacy 1.01 ie abilitypirateincendiaryslug, buffpirateincendiaryslugtarget & researchsubject_pirate_abilityaccess_incendiary_slug,

these 3 NEW entitys force a manifest edit/build. I suggest using the manifest maker to make a new manifest for the mod the same as what happend with entrenchment 1.03 to 1.04/1.041

That worked, thanks!

entity manifest wound up in wrong location... the parent of where Dynamic Battle System was for Entrenchment 1.05.  Manually moved it into the mod directory.  Entrenchment now doesn't start.  Deleted DBS and it runs again.

I'm hoping the errors are on my end and will try again later.

Why does it go through every dir/sub-dir on C?

++++Update+++

Did it over again.  Made sure the sub-dir of Dynamic 0.9(BETA) 1.041 were showing and had your program make a new entity manifest.  File is 44KB and the old is 53KB and in the main directory of the mod itself.  Tried to enable the mod and game mini-dumped.  Guess the mod can't be made to work for Entrenchment 1.05.

i had the problem with the runtime thing yes the ocx is there

Ok Im trying to update the realcapital ships mod from compatibility with v1.03 for entrenchment to v1.05.

I made two folders in the mods section one Mods-v1.03 & Mods-v1.05.

I placed the mod in 1.03 folder and ran the conversion as saying [Source is 1.03 folder and spit it out at v1.05 folder]

All goes well it converts-no errors, i run entrenchment - apply mod->it dumps me. What do I do?

or can you just update the mod for me and PM a download link :)

machinemadness, the most likely cause of the minidump is the 9 new entity files that arrived with 1.04, and as I have suggested for the mods that ARE NOT total conversions, the quickest answer is to use the manifest maker to make a new entity.manifest for the mods that you updated just make sure that the diplomacy tickbox is empty. if this does not work I can upload my owm copy that I updated.

Now that Diplomacy 1.011 is out, don't we need another file for your Mod Converter to work, Harpo? At least, it doesn't work as-is when trying to update a MOD from Diplomacy 1.01 to 1.011.
