Demigods too slow // the whole gameplay can be a bit faster

Demigods too slow // the whole gameplay can be a bit faster

Hi there,

Played demigods for a week now more like nonstop. I love the basic idead because im a great Dota fan myself.

But one thing that always popped up in my head when i played Demigod was : "Is it just me or is it like the whole game is in slow motion"

Dgs are moving extremely slow in my opinion and running away or chasing another dg is just kind of boring.

Look at Wc3/Dota for example its so much faster and much more about moving and positioning.

Sometines i feel like i can play DG with 1 hand. I know DG is a new game and everything i'm just trying to help making it what i belive it could be.

ye so to make a summary about what im trying to say is.

Speed the game(Demigods) a bit up and make towers stronger nobody is scared of them q.q

Regards Valca

Strategy do become less and less important as the speed goes faster and faster. The faster the game, the bigger edge the fast player gets. I have played starcraft for 9 years.

You probably assumed that I was an idiot but what I am talking about is quite complicated so please give it some more thought. In starcraft for example you do all you have time to do. You start with the most important stuff. The faster player will therefor not crush you like a bug just because he is faster. The things that the faster player had time to do is not of great importance compared to expanding scouting, attacking, using micro, building probes. At slow speed a slower player have time to do more of the important things while the faster player have time to do stufff that is even less important.

Imagine taking this to the extreme. What if the game were played on the slowest speed? What would strategy mean compared to speed in that case? Imagine an extremly fast game. Like 10x fastest. What would strategy mean then? The extreme example is just used to prove that the importance of strategy are affected by speed.

But it seems pointless to discuss this if all you really want are more action and not speed. Because I too like action and hope that as the strategies in this game evolve we will get more action.

What we need to figure out is if the action filled strategy is a good strategy. If it is, then it is just a matter of time before we will get more action. If not, perhaps some balance issues need to be fixed.

One more thing to consider. The more strategy you know in this game the more action you get. Consider you would take in all information avalible in all calculations... that would be extreme action.

Where I do like the actual speed of things in the game, such as movement speed, attackspeed, cooldowns and such, I can agree with the OP that the actual gameplay is a bit slow-phased.

One of the factors that made StarCraft, Counterstrike, WC3, Quake and many other mplayer games so successfull was the action being at display on screen. For those watching Korean Starcraft matches on TV (or though the net) knows what I'm talking about. It's interesting and fast phased, and the games rarely comes to an halt where the sides just idle.

DotA have a much faster gameplay system in hand, since it doesn't contain elements of downtime as Demigod has.
Demigod have flags, much more focus on lanecontrol and a few VERY large maps. Combined with the somewhat slow gamespeed, it's not that interesting to watch. I'm not saying DotA is fun to watch either (I don't play DotA, so maybe I'm missing something), but it would be cool if GPG/SD implemented some features that made the game more thrilling to watch.

Watching Conquest, Fortress and Domination replays are just plain boring <_<

Note: Sorry for horrible english.

Sorry Viras, I agree with those points, I just felt the "I win most games on slower game speeds," to be really suspect.  I play on Iccup etc. and generally anyone I meet who claims to be "good at strategy but not fast enough" never expands and doesn't even build workers after the first few minutes.

This game could be more fun to watch if you could see what items people were buying, citadel upgrades being bought, and what skills people were getting.  They could have some kind of icon that displayed in observer mode, or a bar that stays on screen and shows the most recent things each player is getting.  I'm also pretty sure that if high level play ever evolves for this game, that the games will generally be pretty fast.  Keep in mind that a lot of "custom games" take forever because most people are annoying and don't concede when they lose.  Starcraft would be a lot more annoying to watch as well if a Terran player who lost after doing 14CC decided to lift his engineering bay and hide it in some corner while blocking the ramp to his main with siege tanks behind.  People on Demigod not conceding when the other team is an average of 3-4 levels higher, has four more war rank, controls 90% of the flags, etc. and still not conceeding is the equivalent to floating buildings in SC.
