First try to practice offline abit then read some quides on these forums...and if that doesnt work youve ran into pro noob bashers .

Look at the host's stats. Sometimes I see "Noob only" games hosted by ppl with something about 90wins/20losses, those are noob stompers.

Don't be afraid to play a lot of AI games to get the hang of things...

Do all hard + one nightmare to start and work up skills there...

Learn the items and strats that work for you there and adapt them to playing people...

I finaly got my first win, and I've had the game since near day 1.  Yet someone listed me on the "good players" list.     I figured out that it's because I unknowingly join premades and/or don't care if I'm playing with noobs.  Actually, I like playing with noobs if their good sports.  If I could, I would play a non-ranked game I would 90% of the time.  Don't worry about your ranking, it may all be erased with the upcomming 1.2 patch I'm guessing.

I've no problem playing with newbs, and definately won't kick people from games just because they're not that great - the game's there to enjoy, not to win and gloat.

Without a good match making - or without some players in there - the stats are totally nonsense. Custom games can be joined by team and they have a huge advantage against the free for all team. Most games are just decided by who gets the best / worst player or team. It is like throwing a die. But the other games are a lot of fun.

And if you have a look at my last games you will see that I have always someone with 0:10 stats or worse in my team. Even with knowing some imba tactics you don't have a chance, because your enemies will be twice as strong as you.

Eh, don't worry to much about it guy-- the ranking are only marginally useful in revealing skill, the only thing its really accurate for is showign who has a decent connection.

That game went on for around 40 minutes.  The host rage quit or dc'd at the 8 minute mark.  The rest of his team was so good that at 4 vs 5 it couldve gone either way (Zikurat is a map where AI's tend to play well due to the high number of fortresses).  Drugfreeboy who was on the 4 man side, stayed until the end & played excellent, SHOULD have gotten the highest favor credit even with hios side losing, instead he got nothing-- only the leaver got favor points & the credit for the win.  So the win/loss number % in this game is fairly meaningless.   I can see how it could be discouraging for new players though.  They should either prioritize fixing it or remove it.  One nice thing about dota was there was no separate dota won/loss record to keep track of-- after each game you just dusted yoruself off & started again-- the good players knew each other based on how they played, not some % number.

In terms of helpful advice-- I'm not that great a player (though like most still better than my win.loss %)  but there are some things you can do which are fairly easy & yet have big impacts in a game.  Try playing Erebus in a minion build -- there's a few guides in the strategy section.  Being able to send twelve 2K hp minions up a lane usually has an impact in a game.  Or trying playign a tower rook.  Lots of new guys like the hammer, but again, towers played well can own a lane.  QoT though weak lategame is another beginner friendly hero, go with shield.  And Sedna pretty much any build tends to be pretty straightforward-- just dont forget to help out your teammates once in a while if you can.

I played with a 0 / 13 Erebus last night and I would have to say so far hes #1 at my list of worse player ever lol

I've played you a couple times, your connection/crash issue is what i remember, but my games are all noob/mids usa, that means you should have some clue of what you're doing to join my game,, not a lot but i expect you have more than 1400 health before running out and attacking the first time... if you ever want to play some and figure things out let me know,,

I`d choose a Demigod whom you seem to do better with to some extent, just play that one for a time in A.I. matches on Hard.

I love Erebus - he`s my kind of aggressive character. Queen Of Thorns I have a great deal of fun with, but I don`t seem to be very good at all with her... she`s tough to play perhaps. Nonetheless, different Demigods do have different attributes that will or will not mesh with your own instincts.
