Babylon 5 mod effort for Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion

This is the story of the last of the Babylon 5 mod-efforts. It's goal, to prevent another failure, by creating a place to solve our problems collaboratively. Its a port of call, home away from home, for modelers, texturers, programmers and sound engineers.

Sins Of The Younger Races Remastered

NEW - Balvarin Carrier and Minor Factions fix!

 

 

Installation Guide:

  1. Download the latest Sins Remastered mod from here:
    https://www.moddb.com/mods/sinsre
  2. Extract the archive into a 'SinsRemastered' folder in your 'C:\Users\%username%\Documents\My Games\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion\Mods-Rebellion v1.85' folder.
  3. Download the latest Babylon 5 Sins of the Younger Races mod from here:
    https://www.moddb.com/mods/sins-of-the-younger-races
  4. Extract the archive into your root 'Mods-Rebellion v1.85' folder instead of a new mod folder as the archive ALREADY contains a premade 'SotyrRemastered' folder inside of it (so if you're not careful you'll end up with a mod folder inside of a mod folder and it won't work lol).
  5. Start Sins and go to 'Options', then 'Mods', and you should see the mods you've installed.
  6. Enable 'SotyrRemastered' and then enable 'SinsRemastered' too. Make sure that the load order is SotyrRemastered first/top and then SinsRemastered second/bottom.
  7. Restart Sins and you should be good to go!

Sometimes the in-game mod loader can be a bit funky so if you can't see the mods you've installed or something isn't working then enabling the mods via the 'EnabledMods.txt' file in your 'Mods-Rebellion v1.85' folder where you installed the mods to is the other alternative. It should look like this to work:

I try to understand what you mean and hope I'm correct. This mod is in the process of transitioning to Rebellion, our internal build is already working on it for month. But the work to make all the good things work, like titan upgrades, Factions and such take a bit longer. Also, we have all our lives to live, work to do, relations to attend to. We do this work for free in our spare time and are just a very small team doing it. So it will take a while still for the next release. But perhaps I will introduce monthly builds to download somewhere.

Well, I really redid this model from scratch, changing the shape of the hull and aft sections to a more streamlined form (in comparison to the model you sent me or the mongoose model). Thanks nevertheless, it got me inspired for this one.

I will look into building an early access alpha for rebellion so that you at least can start playing in 1.52. Will take a week or two though. What is version 1.79?

Don't bother with 1.79 until it's released, being a beta and all that, I'd suggest focusing on 1.52. Plus, for now at least, 1.52 is compatible with 1.79.

Agreed - Rebellion 1.52 is still the official/stable version. The beta is available purely to allow the Sins community to, at their own choice, test & provide feedback on new developments.

I am currently running SotYR with the 1.79 beta and (so far) I haven't spotted any new problems. However the devs have stated that the compatibility of future versions of the beta is not guaranteed with mods and saved games:- see Rebellion 1.79 Beta change log

Hence why I've backed up my copy of Rebellion 1.52 ;-)

Hi,

I've now tested it in 1.79, and besides the shader changes (nice) theres nothing impacting compatibility. I've put a Link to the 0.44a01 Prerelease on BitBucket for those without fear. Please refrain from posting any "X is not in the game", "There are cubes instead of ship meshes", "why is Y not working" messages.

The B5 planet bonuses didn't seem to appear - I think I've now fixed that. While I was at it I've added some new bonuses

  • Gaim Colony Hives :- Increased population and health on greenhouse planets. Decreased structure costs, increased build rate.
  • Psi Corps Base :- Increased allegiance
  • Abbai Aquatic Cities :- Increased population, culture rate, and logistic slots on oceanic planets, decreased tactical slots.

I've replaced all the entity files, etc, on ticket #139.

The new Corvan & Minbari Culture Centre models look very nice :thumbsup:

sorry but I cannot grant you permission to use our models. You mod is in effect just another B5 mod, but you want to skip the process of creating the content and just use someone else's. That I cannot allow. I've been working with my team since 2009 on this project and it cost me lots of my spare time and effort to get this far. If you want to make a mod for B5 you could start to make your own content, or support the effort of someone who does. Taking someone else's work is not an will never be right.

Apartment is livable but unpacking is not quite finished (and may never be). It has been so long I don't know what modifications I've made but I do know I was tinkering with the Babylon Station stats and upgrades and once I'm done with that I'll send off the commit for review.

Texture for Leshath is finished, but I have a peculiar problem when the model is converted to mesh. 2 faces are inverted by ConvertXSI, which result in an optical hole in the mesh. I hate ConvertXSI. Even with --nooptimize it does not work. Has anybody experience with turning faces by hand in a mesh?

Some of the recent changes Rebellion's to planet bonuses and artifacts are interesting.

Efficient Ship Factories: -30% ship cost - can make a huge saving on the more powerful cap ships

Fortress World: +1 starbases, etc - a pair of upgraded Minbari starbases + Kanets == "they shall not pass"

Planetary Organic AI: Now has +25% population. That combined with the new infrastructure upgrades can support massive populations.

Power Core Relic: Now has +0.1 AM/sec restore rate when in friendly culture. IMHO this actually makes PCR worth having, although some might consider that to be overpowered as SotYR has zero AM regen.

Manifest Dominion: Relationship bonus increased from +1 to +4, probably not quite enough for a Narn/Centauri alliance but not far off ;-)

Do you use Softimage XSI?

I believe you can select the polygon that's inverted and then perform Poly. Mesh->Invert Polygon.

Thanks, that was the first thing I tried. It does not work, as the faces still end up facing inwards after being converted using XSI. Is there a way to explode a vertex into a polygon?

In all honesty is is my mistake. I've used Thoumsins Sharlin Command Tube Part for the Leshath, but optimised away a face that I deemed useless (the end point of the tube had a cap polygon which I collapsed to a vertex, to save a measly 6 or so polys). Now it seems the face is to make ConvertXSI behave correctly. Stupid me.  X| :grin:

Hi,

I've fixed the Leshath now. All I needed to do was to recreate the polygon I've optimised away. I shall never again doubt a face Thoumsin created. It will have meaning. :grin:

The Leshath uses a heavily modified Tinashi body and wings, the top wing and the cockpit tube are from Thoumsins Sharlin, slightly modified to remove a few polys, the ribs are new. The tail is from the Sharlin, the other elements from the Tinashi or newly made. Polycount is around 5.9k (high for a scout, I know). Hope you like it (and thanks Thoumsin for the beautiful elements)
