Babylon 5 mod effort for Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion

This is the story of the last of the Babylon 5 mod-efforts. It's goal, to prevent another failure, by creating a place to solve our problems collaboratively. Its a port of call, home away from home, for modelers, texturers, programmers and sound engineers.

Sins Of The Younger Races Remastered

NEW - Balvarin Carrier and Minor Factions fix!

 

 

Installation Guide:

  1. Download the latest Sins Remastered mod from here:
    https://www.moddb.com/mods/sinsre
  2. Extract the archive into a 'SinsRemastered' folder in your 'C:\Users\%username%\Documents\My Games\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion\Mods-Rebellion v1.85' folder.
  3. Download the latest Babylon 5 Sins of the Younger Races mod from here:
    https://www.moddb.com/mods/sins-of-the-younger-races
  4. Extract the archive into your root 'Mods-Rebellion v1.85' folder instead of a new mod folder as the archive ALREADY contains a premade 'SotyrRemastered' folder inside of it (so if you're not careful you'll end up with a mod folder inside of a mod folder and it won't work lol).
  5. Start Sins and go to 'Options', then 'Mods', and you should see the mods you've installed.
  6. Enable 'SotyrRemastered' and then enable 'SinsRemastered' too. Make sure that the load order is SotyrRemastered first/top and then SinsRemastered second/bottom.
  7. Restart Sins and you should be good to go!

Sometimes the in-game mod loader can be a bit funky so if you can't see the mods you've installed or something isn't working then enabling the mods via the 'EnabledMods.txt' file in your 'Mods-Rebellion v1.85' folder where you installed the mods to is the other alternative. It should look like this to work:

Was surprised to not see the Vorlon light cruiser, the Vorlon heavy cruiser and the Vorlon Carrier since all these model are already modeled, segmented, UV and textured ( not difficult since these 3 ship share the same texture that the Vorlon Cruiser )...

Not sure that it is a good idea to include Vorlon in 0.40 ... isn't the lack of colony frigate and scout ( in fact, lack of all frigates and destroyer class ) lead to problem for any Vorlon AI player ?

Well, release date is to be decided. I didn't include them ( the other Vorlon ships ) in the stats, because I was not sure if I would include all of them in 0.40 as I still have to make the tangents, meshes, entity files and particleeffects for those ships. Same goes for the G'Quan ( cause I don't know if SteinerX texture will be finished in time)

0.40 will not be the final release, so it is not that big of a problem to release a 0.41 or so with additional models. My main priority for 0.40 is to include the stats for all the ships of all races ( but since we added a few Vorlon ships to my plans, that might not happen in 0.40 ) which will be the date I declare the release date internally so everyone can tell me if they like to hold out for another piece to add.

 

Edit:
as for Vorlon and Shadow ships and gameplay - this will still need to be decided. It might be that they gain other means of establishing an empire. I have to think it up

How long do you think will it take you to complete the GQuan texture? ( So I can have the AO ready by then )

I tried your 0.35 version and was amazed, yet I felt the pressing need to mod the stats of the various factions. (playing against the vanilla factions proved a daunting task untill some adjustements were made to these factions and the EA/Minbari.) 

 

Still the 0.35 version was very playable and this just makes me even more eager to get my hands on the 0.40 version. While I still lack any moddeling skills, texturing skills or any of the other essential skills actually needed to help out with the mod in a satisfactory way, I could help out with "alpha-testing" and balancing. This is pretty much all that I do in regards to moding Sins and that is unfortunatly all that I can help out with. I really wish that I could do more to help you guys out since its amazing to see all the hard work and effort you put into this mod.

 

Keep up the excellent work mod-team!

Thanks alot. Well, the vanilla factions have things like hull repair rate and (for now) more abilities and such ( though not nearly as much fighters, deadly they are ). coming with 0.40 or 0.4x, the vanilla factions will vanish, but you will have the centauri and narn, vorlons and shadows to testrun in 0.40

Balancing will taka place one the basic game mechanics are made (resupply lines, shadows, vorlons,...)

I'm happy to have you as a tester, as I'm happy about all the others coming here from time to time!

What I did was mostly changing the stats (speed, etc) for the fighters so as to make them more usefull, the firepower/range/reload-time of the Minbari weapons and other minor things as to change the gameplay in regards to the various factions and their ships. After playtesting the game for eight hours (restarting after changes where made about 20-30 times ;) )  In the end it made the game more fun to play (for me as I only play against the AI). Im also a sucker for huge battles, so changes were made to increas ship-cap about tenfold. Now I get to play with or against the Minbari in a "Battle of the line" type of feel with the Minbari ships destroying tens of EA ships before going "boom" in huge battles with hundreds of ships. Its amazing and something I would never have tought possible before your mod came along.

 

I'll gladly test, comment and come with suggestions for the 0.40 version. In fact you can count on it since Sins is my  favorite RTS and I have the highest hopes for this mod. Might even try to learn a thing or two about texturing in the future to be of more help to the mod.

 

Good luck to you all, checking in on a daily basis to see your great progress on the mod.

I understand completely. I haveen't had that much time lately myself. I hope I can finish the ship entity files this weekend so that I can get to work on the game mechanics and AO for some other ships. I also thought about making myself a simple tool for Researchtree development.

Not really... some are very busy with school, some are swinning ( heavy rain in Poland )...

Other like me envoy the good weather with barbecue, cold beer and hot woman...

Ahh, Summer takes a while for me. I'll be on holidy from July the 3rd to july the 31st, in Great Britain and probably France. Without internet access, so don't expect me to answer any questions in that timeframe. 0.40 will be out before my holiday, so don't worry.
