How Much Are Replays Wanted?

How Much Are Replays Wanted?

A long time back I got naturally placed into the game admin slot for the GR.org section for Demigod when everyone else ragequit the game because of X reason.

I know no other website around will have a system like GR does for organized replays. I've confirmed that replays will have viewable Demigod stats and items, as well as citadel upgrades. They're going to be legit.

The question is, is it worth the effort to revitalize a dead section? Basically, I need to know if the community wants replays enough to put the work into it. I mean, I love Demigod to death, but I want to produce something the community will find useful instead of wasting time. I could use a lot of responses, not just a few. A simple yes would be sufficient =)

Well if Demigod had replys I would be visiting GR/Demigod all the time. Once they implement them I'll defintely be over at GR.

I am a replay whore and I enjoy watching replays often long after the original game has lost its savor for me.  For example, I haven't played Command and Conquer 3 since I beat it months and months ago, but every so often I get in the mood to watch a match.  And when I am still enchanted with the game replays stir up more excitement, so yeah, I love replays.

I agree that high level play and replays go hand in hand. I will need some replay files the day the system comes out to get the system going, but I'll make sure the Demigod community has this resource when the time comes.

Replays seem like a cosmetic to me, and I have little use for them.  I'd much rather see you spend time fixing bugs such as the pipeline issues when Alt-Tab'ing, and working on the 1.2 update and the bug fixes it will no doubt require.

A Big NO from me.

Replays only make cookie cutter builds,, and i'd much prefer a working (no lobby crashing) game to getting some replays.

Other than the occasional gosu play, I feel that replays for this type of game would be quite boring to watch imo.

I'd much prefer time invested in item/hero balancing at the moment.  But I'm not going to say they're useless.  If you get beaten down by someone it's always nice to take a look at exactly what beat you in order to come up with a strong counter.  And n00bs can at least learn to mimic a pr0sauce team.  So replays may evolve the game somewhat.

Replays are the only thing I'm looking forward to in this patch.  As for contributing to your site, I'd be happy to upload some of my replays once I can save them.

Replays are the only thing that can make a game competitive.... SO YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I think its a joke they wernt in AGES ago. Its a bit late now for them but better late then never :D

There are lots of instances on this forum alone where replays would have been very helpful.  So many times people are trying to describe a bug or exploit, when a replay could have shown everyone.  And of course Frogboy's Hall of Shame; so often it's hear-say and he-said/she-said, but with replays, you could just show everyone what happened (exactly and factually).

Also, with every "This Demigod is OP" post, we might be able to show a replay of how to counter said OP demigod.

This is needed now..... do you want the game to live? add replays and observer chairs to game. Replays provide new players with insight into pro's minds. Observering games in action is like watching a movie! I love these two features but replays are a must!

Observer seats would increase the amount of upload required further, and cause more games to lag. I'm happy to give them a miss.

Replays increase the skill level of the community for anyone that watches even just a few. For a complete noob, watching a game with uber high level players gives them something to go on. In terms of increasnig level of skill, they're a lynchpin to every other RTS.

Being that I only get to play <5 games per week, I have been unable to increase my skills fast enough to become a good player.  Replays can significantly reduce the learning curve for those of us who don't play all that often.  I have been hanging in there, getting stomped every time I play, just to keep up what little skill I have, waiting for replays to come.  Hopefully, after watching some high level games I can get my win/loss ratio above 20% :'(  .

I believe replays will bring back people who gave up on the game because they couldn't figure out what they were doing wrong.

Hopefully, some of the high level players will embrace replays and post some of their games for the benefit of the rest of us.

Personally I don't think I have a huge desire unless they are casted. Is there any external program that can link recorded casts to in game replays?

If there is any high profile tournaments or top ranked games I will be quite interested to check them out I guess, but not really for my own gameplay, I know I such, I don't need any reruns :)

Demigod is pretty stable except for the occasional critical error.

Yeah definitely.

I find it hard to improve without them.

In supcom I would always watch replays of games I lost to see where I went wrong and regularly went to GR.org to check how the top players played.

Has anyone used Fraps to record and replay games?  Reinventing video capture seems like a waste of the devs time to me.  There's much bigger issues to tackle, improving match-making, working through bugs with 1.2, hardening security against exploits and trivial game state/desync errors.

Fraps would not be a good option simply cuz it would slow down performance significantly.
