Introduction

The Maelstrom Mod introduces four new races to the SoaSE Universe.

It keeps the original races, the TEC, Advent and Vasari who are still to be found building and battling as usual.

All of the new races are independent of the original races and have unique strengths and weaknesses.

Not sure what the 'wail of the sanctified' ability is? It sounds like 'Sins of the Fallen'.

I believe AseOfSpadez is referring to the Advent Rebel ability for the Temple of Communion called Wail of the Sacrificed.

Thanks for the info ... I've haven't had the pleasure of playing as the Advent in Rebellion as yet.

I'll have a close look at the 'Wail'!

I haven't either, I just hear, well technically read, things...

Just an FYI, trying to install the expanded version for diplomacy using desura gets the standard version instead.

soase-maelstrom has no control over the Desura version; that's some random moddb tweebs who more often than not don't know shit.

haha, tweebs.

Yeah, Wail of the sacrificed does damage on opposing fleets by sacrificing the planet's populace.  With a dyson whichamakallit (the other one, not dyson sphere but dyson something else.  It can get up to 8000 population with upgrades)  With 8000 population it would do something along the lines of >24000 damage to every single ship in an attacking fleet.

That would be like a uber red button of doom.  That'd obliterate titans like they're tin foil.

Go, go Advent!!!

True, i've always liked them better anyway.

But upgrade the advent dreadnought.  It NEEDS it!  It has, like, no frontal firepower at all.

Yes, this and a few others will be abused in my mod ;)

Oh no...

When a zombie says abused, you know its going to be totally disgustingly fun to use it and not fun at all to anyone on the receiving end.

Hey ZombiesRus5,

Have you noticed, on ModDB, that when they moved your mod to Desura that they re-categorized your mod as Diplomacy only, and that places it in a niche from the other main Sins mods!

Ya, I emailed them about the re-structuring. Safe to say it was not a very enlightening experience. I'm tempted to create a rebellion profile for my mod and NEVER move it to released status.

I'm currently talking to them also. If anything useful comes out of it I'll let you know.

So, in other words, if a mod isn't set to released status than it isn't supported by Desura? If so, this is good to know, and something I'll attempt to take advantage of.

To bad, I really like the idea of Desura but it needs to be something the modders have full control over.

Hrm... Come to think of it, seeing as how it's one person that manages the Desura setup for a mod, perhaps it is possible for one to be said person. I'll ask around and see what I can figure out.

Regarding Desura I've been talking with a chap called feillyne (http://www.moddb.com/members/feillyne)

My question was

"When you guys moved Maelstrom to Desura you re-categorized Maelstrom as "Game Sins of a Solar Empire: Diplomacy" before it was "Game Sins of a Solar Empire". I see two problems with this, firstly, Maelstrom is a mod for Original, Entrenchment and Diplomacy (i.e Trinity) SIns. Secondly the majority of SIns mods are in the "Game Sins of a Solar Empire" category, so when people are looking for Sins mod they might miss Maelstrom"

feillyne answer was

"ModDB pages for SoaSE x-packs were added just recently. It'll take some time before they get popular, 'm fraid. Also, an article on SoaSE main page about new ModDB pages for expansion packs could be posted, that way some people will be redirected to pages of x-packs."

He further said

"And to clarify:
Desura supports complex mods quite poorly. It supports easy-to-install mods such as yours very well, i.e. mods that easily install only to their own single folders, but is less reliable when it comes to complex mods requiring backups, manipulating or preserving other/original game folders, etc."

And finally made these comments

"So the plan is to
1) improve Desurium, the open-source version of Desura: Github.com
2) make your mod and others installable through the main SoaSE page again (or alternatively make a page for Trinity pack) and pack 3 editions (for SoaSE, SoaSE:E and SoaSE:D) in one huge download (installing in a complicated way, to all 3 SoaSE mods folders) plus make separate versions for each edition if somebody wishes to download less."

It appears my mod is safe from desura for the moment ;) I had sorta assumed as much as it's been sitting in step 1 of 9 for moving to desura. Poor bastard probably couldn't figure out my directory structure.

I was told...

"We limit one profile per mod on Desura, so if you are piggybacking another mod off an existing profile and want it on Desura you will need another profile."

Soase-maelstrom, the download on ModDB for the Standard Diplomacy mod contains the Expansion mod inside the zip instead of the Standard mod.

Nope.  I downloaded Maelstrom_Diplomacy_1.34_8.zip using my browser and it contains Maelstrom Expansion R8 as the mod folder instead of whatever the Standard is called.

EDIT: I'm pretty sure it isn't just a misnamed folder since the mod folder contains the Dreadnought and Titan abilities as well as the militia asteroids.

I downloaded from ModDB and tested and it was fine. The ModDB team might of corrected an error between when you downloaded and when I did.

Irrespective, I'll try once more

Thanks for letting me know.

I have found what the issue is ... the folder named "Maelstrom Expansion R8" should be named "Maelstrom R8".

The actual mod in the folder is the correct one i.e the Standard Maelstrom series for Diplomacy.

Thanks again.
