While doing a bit of Drengin bashing I unlocked Huge hulls and decided to have a crack at building a Galaxy class starship it took a couple of goes but I got the gist of it in the end.

Colossus Class Super Carrier

Finally done with this, 20+ hours and 700 parts later. My final ship for the humans I think, it's as complex and detailed as I can probably make for them.

Wow, high praise indeed! The hardest part was that I didnt want to make it symmetrical, so I couldnt use axis mirroring except for the front. Sure, I dont mind at all. There's alot of detail in these ships that you simply cant see in a screenshot. Do I need to include the composite parts I use in the ship too?

Thank you! It was a real beast to make!

Gizmokack great job with the ships!!!!!

if you plan to upload to steam workshop you wont need to upload the custom parts.  If you plan to send the files directly than you will ned to include all files (I think).

cant wait to check out your models :)

If emailing custom ship files he wont need to include custom parts unless the parts do not show up on ship in ship designer.

Do the larger and more complex ships that use more parts bog down the game?  If so, is there a good ball park number for the number of parts to use?  (I havent tried my hand at any of the larger classes yet)

@ crystlshake

more complex Ships do indeed bog down the Game ,but once the Ship is done in the Designer and saved as a Ship ( not a Template ) its basicly one piece and your Framecount is not that much stressed then it is in Design Mode.

I havent tried Ships with 700 Parts yet as my Ships are made of many custom Parts which keeps the Numbers lower - but there is no Way to tell when the Parts used are "to many" - your game could crash @ that Point our simply slow down some more .

Just make the Ships and save Elements of it in Custom Parts,it will help you reworking your Ships if the Game crashes @ some Point - just a word of warning ,never use crashsaved Custom Parts ( Crashsaving means your Game crashes while saving a custom made Part ,but the Part is saved and "usable" - It happened to one of my parts and it was causing Scaling Bugs upon connected Parts everytime i used that Part )

@lorvar

By custom parts Im guessing you save a grouping of parts in the designer.  How do you do that?  I dont remember seeing an option when saving a design.

I had a dig about on a few wiki's and I've designed some ST:Enterprise and ST:Axanar era ship designs and touched up some existing ones, I hope you like them.

ST:Axanar Emmette Class (small hull)

A re-do of my Excelsior:

ST: Axanar Hermes/Freedom Class:

ST:Enterprise/Axanar Intrepid Class:

ST:Axanar Armstrong Class:

this is a Picture of my (unfinished) new Phoenix Avatar ,lets say i want make use of some Parts in it

I want that Head in this Example

select the Part where it begins by holding down left CTRL and leftclick that Part ( you have to start with the Part that connect to the Rest of your Ship ,otherwise the other Parts wont transfer properly into the new Custom Part

select every Part that belongs to it while holding down left CTRL ( Parts get highlighted on Screen - if not there is something wrong )

move your Mouse to the shown Button on the right and click it - you can release left CTRL now ^^ ( Maybe there is a Keybind for it ,but i am not aware of it now )

pick a Name for it

if you have done everything right you will now have a Custom made Part ( it may sometimes appear upside down but once you attach it it is again in the right Position )

Just some final Words - make sure your Parts are properly colored, and everything is where you want it - once saved you can only alter the Size and the Alignment of it ( to all others - sorry for the Wall of Pictures O:)   )
