There used to be a medal for having at least one victory for each of the victory conditions. I'd love to see that one back in the gallery.

Let me preface my comments by confessing that I am a "former" player. I voluntarily discontinued my participation after, what I consider, the "MetaVerse debacle" that ended in several prominent players being removed under allegation of cheating by re-submitting hacked game files--a charge that I remain dubious of to this day. I have dropped in to the forums from time to time since then (using my cloaking shields, of course) and noted that that event
I am running GalCiv 1.2. I have a save game in the following state: I have just made a long-term deal (my cash for their techs, ships, and starbases), with TerrorStars parked at each of their systems. In the following turn I am able to eliminate them completely. Two problems can then occur. Having blown away the last system, if I click the Turn button the game will CTD. If I proceed to do other things, I am able to proceed, however on each turn thereafter the Tribute is being deducted (presumabl
Two follow-up items. Regarding the difficulty levels, are Incredible and Masochistic (or Maso) the same? Also, I would be interested in the trick that Captain Jack Sparrow referenced, to get the AI's to trade the Battle Ship tech. My e-mail is .
I found a reference (over at 'Poly) to a utility developed by 'Steven', that would evidently read your current game state and dynamically build a research chart based on your current goals (e.g., a specific tech, wonder, achievement, et cetera). That announcment was from April 30th of last year. However, the link does not appear to work any longer. Can anyone tell me what became of that utility? If it is available elsewhere? And whether or not any of that functionality is scheduled
Star Pilot, I'm a game developer 'wannabe'. Software developer by profession for the last 25 years, with a strong bent towards game design, primarily in the TBS genre. You're right, Will was a definite Civ1 grog. And I would agree that prior experience with Civ1 would reduce (but not eliminate) the learning curve on how the game is played . However, I still believe that the learning curve on how to win the game was substantial. [Edit: Look at me! It's five years later
Lothmorg, first off, thanks for even asking my opinion. That, in itself, speaks volumes about this community! :) I was somewhat joking when I expressed "fears" about looking at the Empires area, and that whole aspect of the game. Although it is absolutely true that I am absorbing an enormous amount of information as a newbie to GalCiv. I got in a heated debate with Will Wright (creator of The Sims) at a Developer's Conference several years back. He was fondly remembering how
Lothmorg the Black, thanks for the pointer. Quite frankly, I feel like I'm already in "deep-enough water" that I have plenty to explore, learn, and play with for some time. (Although I know that some of you guys are looking over here and laughing at the tall blonde guy thinking he's all brave and macho--while looking ridiculously silly in the kiddie pool! LOL) I looked briefly at the Empires section, and I don't even want to begin splashing around in those waters! (Although I will admit to h
Thanks Theoden! I am learning SO much by reading this thread. For example, up until earlier today I thought that you could only build a starbase on an existing resource. Then I read a post in this thread that made me think otherwise, jumped into a save game where I had a constructor handy and--VOILA!--I learned something new!
I'm a newbie. (Currently playing the demo, and expecting the full game for my birthday in a couple weeks.) Could someone please explain the following statement to me:
On maso, I would next get Improved Environment, and trade it and also use it to start some fights among the AIs.
Specifically, how can I start fights among the AIs?
Just thought of another quick question: Can someone explain to me the symbols that appear at the end of your posts? Not detailing each and every one, just how you got them. I'm presuming that it has something to do with participation in the MetaVerse, perhaps.
Thanks for the answers, help, and advice, all. I expect to have the game by the second week of April--and look forward to posting further questions then. Until then, however, I'll have to make do with the demo and continue to refine my fledgling 'strategies'!
Quick follow-up question. Part way through the demo several of the items in my build lists start appearing with a parenthesized number following them. For example, "Banking Center (5)" or "Entertainment Network (3)". What does this mean? (I'm partly asking because I could have sworn that I had already build those particular improvements on some of these planets, and it feels like I'm 'looping'.)
I am currently playing the demo of GalCiv (and loving it!), and I have a few questions. First, I won the game (once) and was "kicked out" to the summaries. In the full-blown game is it possible to continue playing after you have achieved a victory? Second, I noted (from information at JavaScout's Database site--thank you, JavaScout!) that there are a number of technologies relating to "logistics"--and yet the very first one (Basic Logistics, requiring Industrial Theory) is not
