"Since everything is on one DVD, it'd be nice if we would be able to buy a lower version, but try out the higher versions for 30 days to make sure it's something we would want to spend all that money on. I don't know if that's possible with an OS though..." It is, Novell already do this with SuSE Enterprise Desktop

My user level is "Visitor" but I should be "Past customer". I used to have the current customer user level but my ObjectDesktop suscription ended this month. I used a different email adress to buy and in wincustomize, one year ago I cross referenced them and everything worked fine.

Just download the Kororaa 3D live-cd and boot it, Maybe there is an install option on your desktop, don't touch it, I have booted some live cds like Gentoo and PCLinuxOS with no problems but never Kororaa. Using KDE or Gnome is very easy to do simple tasks but if you want to take the whole power of the OS you must use the command-line

I've seen some 3D shells for Windows like Blueberry (will be shut down closely), Win3D, Rooms, SphereXP. In fact the Kororaa distro didn't implement 3D it was Xgl, Kororaa just is a build of Xgl over Gentoo. If I missed any alternate shell please say it. Did you think Windows Vista was the first with a 3D Desktop?, take a look at Xgl and get amazed. I never thought Linux could do that, Xgl will be standard when Xorg 7 gets out If you want to try it in your Windows machine, download a live CD of Kororaa Linux, just boot it and you ave a Linux with 3D effects that will amaze you. You probably use GRUB as boot loader (Ubuntu comes with it) , you can edit the grub.conf file under /boot/grub/ There you can set the default option to boot (you can set it to xp) In the same file you can change the number of seconds you wait until the default OS boots.
