That sounds really interesting to use/play/test that software. Since the early and easy 'xxx Constructor Set' games on the C64 and Amiga, that ease of creation hasn't really been available.

So far, the largest change this seems to bring to the genre is the enemy unit count. Compared to playing Defense Grid (1&2) the flexibility of placing turrets is a double-edged sword since it can be a bit fiddly, and a few mistakes can result in non-optimal placement/density. I definitely miss the ability to route non-flying enemies through tower placement. I AM enjoying the bonus/win conditions in each round, and they help with replayability somewhat. The lack of
The other possibility is that the planet might not have been colonized yet. If so, you'll need to try a traditional colonizing ship to take it. I know the planet-rush normally sees most planets snapped up, but if it's an area away from the major players, and near a minor race, that might explain it. Just my 2 cents.
Hi Nick, To be honest, I can't really comment on the campaign in the game, since I haven't actually played it yet. I've been more focused on playing games within larger galaxies. Now here's the thing, playing on Easy, I'd expect anyone who'd played a strategy game, particularly a 4X one, would win quite easily. If you want to ease into the game, I'd try Beginner. You'll see better strategy from the AI, and enjoy the experience
New review up at GameOver; http://www.game-over.net/reviews.php?id=1046 (81%) I know a review doesn't need to be reviewed, but here's a few comments: He doesn't appear to have done his homework in terms of GC1, or at least only references the 2003 release. Doesn't appear to be a fan of the 4X genre, and the writing is fairly muddled. He gives it an 81%, but makes statements like; " Their decisions were sound, be
Sorry, one other comment to add. The AI seems very quick to try and invade any of your planets that has nothing orbiting (defending) it. So I would get some Defenders at least onto every planet as soon as possible. On my current game, even in the mid-late game, where I'm dominating everyone culturally, technologically, and militarily (i.e. attack Torians, steal their planet, then offer a Peace Treaty if they also give me 40K...), I've seen
Debug info is at the end (removed PC name). Two issues I've been seeing : 1. A problem with a path being too long, presumably an AI ship Debug Message: A* Path too long to calculate (76.216797). Aborting 2. General stability issues related to my digital audio currently being disabled. I believe I accidently killed a service related to my SB Audigy2 ZS. While this is uncommon, and will presumably im
I'll confess that I'm curious about how some of the changes will affect gameplay. I'm willing to accept that some of the changes I won't like, and since they're mixed in with bug fixes, I'll just need to live with it. But so what if you change the ground rules while searching for better balance? Nerfing and balancing is part of practically any game these days, online multiplayer or offline single-player. So please, keep squashin
Hi Barry B, My concern might be the video card's support for DirectX 9.0. I'm able to run the program on my laptop, which is a P4 1.6GHz, 1GB RAM, and a Radeon 7500 card with only 32MB RAM. Performance is generally pretty good. I also agree with Midnightsun, that you might need to limit the size of the Galaxy you play in, and/or the number of opposing civilizations. The mid (to late) game can start to slow down quite a bit with
As a 4X game, I generally like the ship-to-ship combat how it is. If I want more tactical battles, I'll play Starfleet Command, or pull out dice and SSDs and play Starfleet Battles... I think it might be intriguing to make a few changes to GalCiv2 ship-to-ship combat though: 1. Morale impacts on battles... Low morale could see ships attempting to flee, mutinees, defections... 2. Option to ATTEMPT to disengage from battle if not in orbit. This would on
Two quick suggetsions: 1. Have you tried setting it for the higher resolution (1600x1200/1280), but run within a Window (vs fullscreen)? 2. Have you tried lowering your acceleration settings by one notch?
