Free Orion is one to keep an eye on. Still not game ready and is pretty slow on development, but the screenshots look quite nice. www.freeorion.org

Not sure if this is new or old, but last night playing a game, I dropped an item for my gf to pick up. She picked up the item not realizing her inventory was full. The item simply disappeared altogether. She thought she had picked it up since the chest disappeared from the ground. It would be nice to report a "your bags are full" error of some sort and prevent the picking up of that item (a la WC3) rather than just eating it.
I very much prefer camp 2/3. From my days of playing MOO2, MOM, Civ, I've always found that a simpler model for resources is more engaging. Games that have tried to create the more complex resource models ultimately wind up requiring too much user attention (which would beg the need for "Governors" as suggested). So from what I'm reading, the favor points/achievements issues are currently resolved on beta. Since these points and achievements are stored on the server side now, I'm curious about the transition from beta to release. Will the points and achievements transfer from beta to release? I'm in the same boat. I had about 3000 favor points from online custom games. I had bought the swift anklets as well. I just logged in today (first time since the last patch) and I now have only 190 favor points and no items... :(
I had this problem last night. Running nForce 780 built-in mobo sound. It seemed to only occur while I was playing the Rook or when a Rook opponent was nearby. I'll try updating my nForce drivers and see how that goes.
