Ok thanks, I will get the expansion.
Yellow Jester
Thanks, is that a new option in the expansion and does that address this problem? I don't see it in 1.31.
I was thinking about this and it seems like something that should have been in from the beginning and was just overlooked. Think about it, when do you most need those ship designs, in your current game, because in your next game you might have new ideas or get bored with the old design. What is the point of spending all that time making a design when you can't use it in your current game unless you never back track. It just hinders the fun of the game for no reason. So, is this somet
Is there a way to save ship designs within the same new game you just started? I'll explain what I mean. This is my problem: I start a new game, I make some bare bones (no engines, weapons, etc., starting hulls) template designs part way through. I screwed up, or I'd like to redo something, so I go back to an old save from the same game. I find that none of my "template" designs are to be found even though it's the same race same game, just earlier before I created the des
Giving this a bump to see if any new ideas have emerged on this aspect since I last played the game.
I think you guys are on to something here. I think perhaps the option to build an orbiting base on the planet that would go into fleet battle mode with the attacker would be nice. I'd like to be able to build a defensive base that would intercept attackers and free up my fleet for maneuvers. Think about it like this, a planet has trillions of times more area than a ship yet can't put guns or missiles on the ground to defend itself? I think to take them out you'd need some bombs l
I would encourage you not to spew this garbage of an advice to new players. Buying colony ships only works on small maps. On any thing medium up you need to make that initial 5k BC last a long time. I build colony ships, and have done so for a long time now. I play Huge moving on to gigantic. Wasting all your money on buying ship
That's.. weird. I would think that a neutral faction would trade if there's profit to be gained and by profit it would be long-run benefit (though that's hard). Either way, I think it will be too limiting if you can only trade with empires you are allied with. It would be ok if the AI had more strategy and purpose in their tech trades. What t
They are tech trading constantly. This is a huge part of the game and you won't realize this till you lose your first game and wonder how the heck they outpaced you in tech so quickly. Once you realize they are tech trading and you make a race with some diplomacy you can control the tech trade and profit greatly. You will have thousands of credits. I have 20,000 while everyone else has about 100 trying to keep up with paying for any new techs I have either bought off the humans o
The smartest thing I've seen the AI do is surrender to me. The next smartest thing is targeting my weak planets where no ships are defending with a transport, and surprisingly with a few escorts to protect them on "intelligent". The other smart thing they've done is place influence bases near my weak colonies. The one who does this first is my first target for war. I was
The forum seems to be much faster now. The interface and quote boxes are interesting but the watch post button never works for me for some reason.
Interesting thread, I can't believe I read all the posts. Here are the ideas I liked and what I would add or modify: 1) You can only trade with those empires you are allied with. 2) You can only trade for next step up from where you are now. So if you have Laser 1 you need to get Laser 2 before you can get Laser 3. How on earth would we humans know how to use the tech of a much more advanced race and culture? We learn and improve things incrementally. 3) Tr
Being able to use 100% manufacturing and 100% research at the same time does not make sense. Why not? We don't make research labs and factories and then only have scientists working one year and then factories running the next. That wouldn't make sense. We run both at the same time to their capacity. We can do this because we have the money
I prefer the idea of: a) having the one industrial capacity slider b) removing the 3 distribution sliders c) removing the "focus" in the planet screen d) putting in 3 sliders in the planet screen that would function as the inustrial capacity slider does. E.g., if you had military to 100%, social to 0%, and research to 100% the planet would be sp
I think it would be better if they did away with the three sliders for Research, Social, and Industry and have one Industrial spending slider. Your planets will always produce whatever you set them up to produce and the Industrial Spending will just modify the amount of money that is put in as it does now. Otherwise, like you said, there will be huge wasting of resources.
One of the ramifications of the current model is that you can never drive your planets economy to its maximum extent. There will always be unused capacity somewhere even if you have budget surpluses. At the default slider settings (50% industrial capacity and 33 M / 33 S / 34 R distribution) you are only using 33% of your manufacturing capacity and 17% of your Research cap
Is it possible to set way points? This would be especially useful for scouting because at the moment auto scout seems broken. Whenever I set it my scouts tend to go straight for the edge of the map where there is nothing to scout and then constantly change direction as if they can't make up their mind where to go. It would be nice if they'd head towards stars and planets as a priority and get just close enough to the edges to reveal it but not go right up to it like they do now.
Ah, that makes sense now, they must have been buying all the upgrades and ships. Thanks for that description in your link it's what I was looking for.
Evil empires should be able to ally as well otherwise it's one sided.
But a Slower option 4-8 weeks for something around 150bc would also be reasonable. That would be nice. I would like the option to upgrade all ships in a fleet at once or ships on a planet without removing them from the planet. One other thing along this line; It bugs me that when I station a fleet on a planet the fleet disbands.
Sometimes when I click my home planet it will react as if I just clicked on empty space by bringing up industry, population graphs etc in the information box of the interface. This means I have to click once on the planet, then double click to go to the planet directly to view information. It can get pretty bad at times.
No, it wasn't confusing, it just didn't specify exactly what bonuses they were getting and what if any penalties I was receiving. Just a lack of information is all. I knew it was going to be hard, but I was hoping they wouldn't cheat to make it hard, just be very strategical and smart about how they play.
I think allying should be easier. You should get the option after you reach warm I think. It's so easy to make enemies but so hard to make alliances. There should be times when getting an alliance would be easier. One such time is when you are both warring against the same Empire and are at good relations. I shouldn't have to give away all my tech and money to get an alliance with another empire, especially when I am the stronger empire. It makes no sense at all. Our alliance wi
If they're looking for models, Space Empires 4 has one of the best systems I've encountered.
