It's much improved (and I genuinely appreciate all the effort that goes into it) but still, as others have noted, somewhat too passive at times. I'm perpetually surprised at how willing the AI to simply let me win a research or culture victory, despite having a superior economy and military. Under those circumstances, I just don't understand why it doesn't come after me, guns blazing, as soon as it sees that I'm trying to win. If I and the AI are allied (even if we're the last two players in the

I believe he's saying he'd like to have to have the option to add Dread Lords to a normal game. They do pop up sometimes via a mega-event, although they're usually so weak they get squashed immediately. Stronger dread lords in "sandbox" games would be great, actually.

I suspect I'm not alone in saying that if those logging calls COULD be weeded down to produce a simple timeline, rather than a narrative, it'd still very much be something I'd like to have. That's assuming it wouldn't be yet another massive investment of time, but it sounds like you knew how to do that and simply had run out of time to actually do it. Maybe in a future expansion?

I got the Dread Lords mega-event in my last game of DA, but they were promptly swatted by the Arceans (in whose territory they spawned) before they really had a chance to do anything. Do they usually get a chance to get rolling? If not, should they start with some defenses?

I had this happen in my last game and had a mix of reactions. The Krynn and THalands researched it, whereas the Drengin and Korath (embroiled in wars as per usual) pretty much died off as a result of it. This was on randomized "challenging" with "force max CPU usage" so I couldn't tell you what the individual AI's were set at.

It's not completely destroying my sleep patterns like the original poster's, but I can only agree with his assessment anyway. Incredibly well done Stardock, keep it up!

I'm really enjoying the ability to customize the "personality" of each alien race in my games, but I'm one of those people that really prefers not to know exactly what races are in the game when I start out. It would be nice, then, if I could set the AI resources, algorithm usage, and economic strength to be applied to all races in the game in the kind of detail allowed by the "personality" tab and then hit "random."

Perhaps editing a save game file or something? I find myself in a very interesting game that is under threat of ending in an alliance victory. I suspect, if allowed to run it's natural course, it would actually be an influence loss, but I'd like to play it out and see if I can pull through. Is there any way, to remove the alliance victory condition at this point?

I've got a real affection for the Iconians but no, they don't have the greatest starting bonuses. I do love the free colony techs, though. Just think of them as galactic underdogs.

I too really like this change, though Dearmad's right that it'd be nice if there were a visual indicator on the foreign relations screen to indicate when you can't contact them. DA, the more I play it and read about it, is just an extremely impressive piece of work. Virtually every niggling problem or exploitable element of DL's been corrected and a ton of fun new stuff's been added, all the while the AI's gotten even better despite having more to manage. Well done Stardock, very well don

It's certainly possible (and I'd love to believe it ), but I don't know why I'd be better at the game after a long gap not playing it than I was when originally playing it. By all means, if I'm the only one noticing this it's probably just a change in my own play style for the better. Sometimes taking a long break ends up curing you of bad playing habits and lets you take a fresh look at things. But I figur

Not that it's a big deal, but how hard would it be to change that? If it's a major issue (and I gather it probably is or it would've ben done) then it's probably not worth it, but a 12 player game on a gigantic map could be a heck of a good time.

Here's a thought. I'm always forcing max CPU usage for AI's, regardless of difficulty setting. I know there was discussion of adding more "fuzz" to the thinking processes of the lower level AI's. Is it possible that increasing CPU time for lower level AI's actually results in more fuzz and thus reduced performance at settings below tough?

I'm aware of the substantial AI improvements in DA (thanks Brad!) but am just trying to sort out what the deal is in DL. With AI improvements over 4 patches I'd assume tough must have gotten harder, so I'm suprised that challenging seems to have gotten easier.

First off I'm not really complaining about this, if I want more of a challenge I'm well aware I can tweak the setting up and get my ass handed to me. Mostly I'm just curious. Back when I played in 1.0X and 1.1 the AI on "normal" was a reasonable opponent for me, "challenging" was about the limit of what I could handle. I came back to the game recently after a long absence and, in DL anyway (I'm finishing up my last DL game before diving into DA) "challenging" seems to be... well not very challen

That was a pretty dumb startrek episode Of course, it was a Voyager episode. Not that Trek's all that great with scientific or logical veracity on a good day...
