Heh, yeah I mostly played back in the days when population bonuses weren't just useless ,they were actually somewhat detrimental in some cases. It sounds like that's changed (which is no bad thing, really). It also sounds like taxing the crap out of people at the beginning of the game isn't going to work like it used to. OK, time to restart. Thanks all.

I picked up GC2 back when it originally came out, and primarily played it with 1.0X and on through the 1.1 betas to the 1.1 final version. Then I set it aside for awhile and played other things, but with DA on the horizon I've come back and started playing my old favorite again. I'm finding that things are very different in 1.4, though (duh), so I figured I'd seek a little help. The colony rush phase seems to be crippling my economy. I take it one has to expand slower these days, but how do you

There's no reason that it can't be a great SP *and* MP title. If it's a great MP title, it won't be as great of an SP title as it could be. I just explained this. hell Brad explained it in several journal entries. This is easy: a finite number of resources can be divided between SP and MP. More MP foc

his is madness. Since when does a multiplayer expansion prevent someone from playing single player? Prevent? No. Fundamentally alter? Absolutely. A game designed for multiplayer must be balanced for multiplayer, features that will disbalance the multiplayer experience must be removed. Resources that c

It's a little bit of an odd game mechanic but you can use it to your advantage, really. Since they can only attack one ship at a time it will take them quite awhile to get through your planetary defenses, so holding them is actually easier WITHOUT an OFM. More to the point, if they attack and kill one of your ships you're free to form a fleet out of the other ones and attack their fleet.

Most recently, I spotted this thread on the upcoming Dominions 3, where a player asks if the SP AI will be improved. Link The developer's response is, basically, no. It is what it is, and they have little interest in improving it. I had been ready to pre-order Dom3, but that just sunk my interest. </TABLE

I wonder whether an MP expansion would get much use (or sell well, for that matter) if it was released some length of time down the road, actually. Most games that launch with MP experience a burst of MP play at the outset which dies off quite quickly. Within 6 months to a year it seems most multiplayer lobbies are dead (which is one reason the "MP extends gameplay" argument is nonsense, 3 years down the road SP is the only option anyway and any game w

I can't comment on whether it'd be a good business move for you guys, but I don't think multiplayer functionality for this game is worth $20. I'd cheerfully buy an expansion pack that expanded the single player game in significant ways, and would prefer if development resources were put in that direction.

The way I read that they're looking for the best way to implement multiplayer without compromising the single player experience (and without the usual troubes inherent to TBS multiplayer) and are hoping to be able to implement it in the future (probably a good sitance into the future). I think most of the people aren't so much opposed to MP as they are opposed to multiplayer taking precedence over single player in game design. As long as SP

my god guys, most of you that posted dont like playing online, but is that a reason to shaft the rest of us? Welcome to our world. There are countless games out there that focus on MP to the utter detriment of SP. The only solution available to us is to find something else to play. If you don't like

So wait, AI's ARE supposed to be able to get a diplo victory? Or diplo victory is supposed to require everyone to be allied with everyone else? Either one of these is news to me, so could someone clarify?

Why is this not a legitimate tactic? this would be like the US bombing the enemy factories to weaken them. This would be the planetary bombardment option so many people want and ask for. For the same reason the planetary bombardment so many people want and ask for would pretty much obliterate any strategy in the game. See all 65439

In my experience this is primarily a problem with high diplo races on lower difficulty settings. Try cranking up the difficulty, try playing non-diplomatic races, or simply turn the option off if you want to keep playing as you have been without tripping an easy victory.

Then I got two Lucky Rangers, and pwnzed their (now) pitiful fleet of 3 missile attack fighters. Which is pretty much why I destroy them when I get them these days, any random event that let sme when the game when I had no hope of it before is ridiculously unbalanced.
