I guess a pro player in DG is someone who has arbitarily decided he is better than most other players, despite there being very little (nigh on nil) way of proving it, in the form of organised tournaments, ladders or leagues.
I might not understand why or how words change, but they change and from my personal experience the word pro in video game communities (which you cannot "play" for a living testers and tournaments being the exception but still not a full time profession imo) has come to mean someone who has achieved an exceptional skill leve
I gotta agree with the OP. There are no Pros in DG, there is no professional league and no one gets paid to win tournaments, perhap
SD only made galciv... unless I'm missing something
Sins = Sins of a Solar Empire, a great innovative strategy game that is worth checking out.
I am sorry gonna have to side with Empire Total War for strategy game of 2009. Demigod is a good game however, I think it would be a shame to say that it is the best strategy game of 2009. I like it, but really cannot say that it is a AAA title. No real singleplayer, badly broken (on release) multiplayer match-ups and for me a simplistic gameplay put some marks down. On point 5. Sheer polish for me means that the product as a whole is polished. At the moment tha
"Game Pace - Sorry but HoN wins hands down here, the game is constantly moving and every action counts. You think it drifts along, then were you playing EM?" LOL! you are deluded by your love for HoN.
Err did you read my next post, where I said I would recommend Demigod to new players. It helps if you actually read someones contribution. As it stands, I have played both games quite a lot. Demigod after 60+ hours has very little
I have found the community to be not that bad. Maybe I have just been lucky, however, I took as much abuse in DG games as I have in HoN games. The forums are a bit wild west, however, the forums here were pretty much the same when the game was busy. That said, you do need a thick skin. HoN is definately more daunting and I think for a new player to the whole genre I would recommend Demigod as a good introduction. My only real quibble about DG is t
Gonna write up a counter argument, but some of your conclusions having played both games for roughly the same time (talking 60+ hours), I feel your commentary is not entirely true. Quick comments Models - DG definately suffers from a huge amount of clutter later in the game and at duels when creeps are involved. HoN models are lower quality, but they are all different. I am sorry but only inexperience would lead you to confuse two chars, f
I have to say that 250 players in game at the peak is not really a great figure. The trouble is that this game now has such a small community it is unreal. This forum used to have loads of posts a day, now it barely has over 20 active topics each day. It was still worth the money for me though, no regrets in purchasing in it and I may even play the odd game here and there. It was never a bad game.
This thread will get locked. However, I have to say that I never played DOTA, played Demigod first and now play HoN. The games are similar and I would side that Demigod is like the light version compared to the full fat of HoN\DOTA. Demigod is a strategy game, HoN is a tactics game. Personally, I am glad I played Demigod as it introduced me to the genre. However, personally for me, HoN is the better game. It does require a l
I played another nameless game. I came back for a game of Demigod and made me realise the strengths this game has (I played one of my best games ever, where we came back from a first half bashing, caught up, then narrowly snatched the victory). This game is very strategic. The problems it faces is that it is very limited, for a beginner it seems like a big learning curve, however after about 1 month of play, most players will be aware what works and what doesn't. Given
I would simply merge Pantheon and Skirmish. So it might not exactly fit into the original background, but it would make a better game.
Griping about it and informing the commuity how much better HoN is does nothing to fix any of the above.
Actually people are more likely to respond to complaints than they are to people either saying nothing or saying well done, but could you possibly if you have time have a look at this, only if you have nothing more important to do. Countless Psychology experiments show that being beaten by a stick improves efficiency and outperfo
I have played as many games as you, both DG and PC, and i have no issues with DG. I know at least 30 others that can play fine
So you have never had a crash to desktop with no debug screen come up? Never had a crash to desktop from lobby with the debug screen come up? Never had the background sound effects play on non stop loop without having to quit out to stop it? Never had in game desyncs for no apparent reason? Never ha
Harsh.
Sums up the German language........!! Still that is a pretty funny manual comment. Punkt 4. Ja, du hast richtig verstanden. Sie wollen, dass wir fuer die DLC bezahlen mussen.
I did, and i understand what you are saying, i just fail to see how singing the praises of other games is going to help the Dg community.
That is not true, hopefully, it means that good points of that game are then incorporated into DG. Maintaining a "place your head in a bucket of sand" standpoint will equal game failure.
Having played a few games of HoN now too, I can see where Demigod is failing even more. However, what Demigod has to it's strengths are the graphics engines, I also like the variety of skills. It does play differently to DOTA and I also feel it is a little more pick up and play. Games in Demigod seem to last significantly shorter than HoN, I prefer that. The things that I hope they can improve on : *** The lobby system. HoN
Duh, I knew that since I was 12. However a real ball lightning doesn't fight creeps, so why bother to give it the name?
Does Sphere Lightning sound that much better? Surely, Big Ass Lektrocution Lightning Spheres would be much better and can be appropriately abbreviated for the build, giving some homage to the original name.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ball_lightning There is a reason why it is called Ball Lightning, it already has a name in the english language :p This new DG looks cool, some interesting abilities. I wonder too how the balance will work out, replenishing health and mana in a team may be a little too strong, would allow some nasty combos.
Why did you even post this?
The guy can post it if he wants. If anything it offers feedback to Stardock on how their customers feel. Sure it is not saying how wonderful the game is, but if he feels he wants to tell the company that, then that is fair enough.
Before you get blasted, I have to say that I agree with you. I play now and again, sometimes I have some great games and most times, it is just a frustrating experience. The game is a fun casual game, however, I don't think it will become a huge competitive game, nor see a large community. I am still impressed with Stardock though :) They have stuck through this and for pretty much their first big hyped release (Galciv and SINS I consider too niche to be mainstre
Yeah, I think there is a conspiracy. The new desync screen only crops up when I am winning :(
It depends on the definition of balance in this game for the DGs. Item balance is a different matter. There two main definitions in this thread or for the game : 1. Balanced play is where every DG should have an equal chance of winning against an opponent DG. 2. Balanced play is where a tactic/build can be countered effectively. For DG, definition 1 is not really appropriate. The game is not an individual death match. Defin
Sigils are great! The whole HP addition in this game is kind of weird. A fun little trick to play at the start is to go into a fight with no favour. Get low on health then punch the BoTF, can be a nasty little surprise.
Even after the bite nerf, that skill is still out of whack. The only comparable skill is Oaks Penitence. Bite costs less, heals and slows more. The only thing it doesn't have is the interrupt. Personally I would remove or severely reduce the crippling speed debuff from it. At later levels it is just sick. Bat Swarm then bite then melee equals one dead DG.
Often you try to run away from Ub
Yes and that is your problem right there, he is a close combat killing machine. Don't go into him, because if you try to run at low health you will get a SPIT on you and likely die. If you have the appropriate counters then spit is no problem. Play as Sedna, she counters UB so badly. The problem with UB as I see it, is that he is easy to play, people can play well with him at lower skill lev
