ps, I don't know how any potential financing would go, but I recall another game franchise I loved being revived not by kickstarter, but notch. Age of Wonders III, the sequel to a fantastic series from many years ago was funded in part by the minecraft creator, he got some return, likely enough to pay them back and more.

Over a decade ago, I played one of those bargain bin pc games called nexus the jupiter incident. It was after the homeworld series came out, but it was different. Less focus on real time strategy with space ships, more focus on real time fleet command. It was a freaking masterpiece.
