If you're fighting Advent, remember that they have a tech that puts bounty on your head automatically when you kill their tradeships. This will happen whether pirates are dead or not.

Being mostly a single player fan, I've been annoyed as hell about the AIs siege frigate blobs, but just the same, I found them expensive to build and preferred capships for bombing myself. As pointed out in several threads, right now it's cheaper to build a capship than 4 siege frigates, making them all but obsolete. Here are some other approaches I haven't seen yet, that might help get past the "unstoppable in a blob" vs "obsolete" dilemma. 1) Planet bombing as an anti-matter abilit
Oh, I will say though that I played a game with LOCKED teams the other day where I gave myself an ally. Things were all well and good until I had just about won and then my ally decided to reneg on me. Found that a little odd. I whopped up on the traitor but was still scratching my head as to how that could happen.
I think there's a bug in 1.03 that if you load a save game and don't open the "game options" screen to reconfirm your settings, it will revert to the defaul

I'm most of the way through a huge map with 9 normal AIs and was able to keep up 2-3 alliances and another 1-2 ceasefires throughout the game, making the game very simple. The trick seems to be to get the AIs to fight eachother early. You don't have to do missions for all of them, but if you complete one or two for specific AIs, it seems that you drop down lower on their list and they'll go harass other AIs instead. This prevents them from all forming cease-fires, due to ship losses lo

If there's a bounty on your head, whoever kills your ships gets some of it, until the amount is back down to zero. Just engage in some serious combat and it'll go down again.

Hmmm, maybe this is what happened: The OP queued the Novalith while the tactical slots where still being upgraded (he mentioned it being newly conquered). When it didn't start building, he canceled all other construction, *including* the planet upgrades. Now the Novalith can't build at all and will stay at 1% indefinitely.

Did you perhaps lose a military lab on another planet, taking you below the 8 required for the Novalith? Or maybe the tactical slots planet upgrade wasn't finished yet?

I think they're from scuttled and salvaged (Vasari) stuff and from the TEC research that gives you a percentage of other players' trades in credits. Also, the Sova carrier's Embargo ability will add to this score.

Peaceful win 2: Play TEC, build 16 Sova carriers plus support and embargo all the opponents' planets until he gives up in disgust. More seriously, I'm a fan of peaceful (and varied) ways to win too. I was a bit disappointed with the culture, even when playing Advent. It's just too easy for the opponent to put one or two media centers on a chokepoint planet and stop your culture dead in its track, especially if there are uncolonizable planets inbetween. Most of the time, it ju

While turning off some auto-pin options has helped, there are a lot of icons taking up space in the empire tree that don't really have a function. I really don't want to see all my extractors and labs, hangars, turrets and other stuff all the time. Is there a way to hide some or all of the structures from the tree? Ideally, I'd like to see only shipyards, superweapons and structures that are under attack/phased out. Even shipyards could be left out, since building ships is easy to do

TEC ...if you prefer managing your empire to micromanaging your fleets. They're also nice for starting players and the economic powerhouse. Advent ...if you like to focus on the fleets and combat. They're a bit weak in economy and the ships a bit flimsy, but if you manually control the ships' abilities and combine them, you can beat much bigger fleets. Vasari ... if you like tactical cat and mouse games and mobility. Their ships are strong, have abilities th

I asked my local gamestore in Holland: not even a planned release date. I found out there were no distributors signed on by looking here on the site. So I bought the download version directly from Stardock and while I would've liked a box version (without the expensive or slow S&H), I'm happy that this way Stardock gets to keep more of the cash, instead of the dumb distributors.

There are a lot of other options to play with: - Locked teams. This (obviously) makes the AIs not attack eachother, but focus on you. Then make a 1v2, 1v3, 2v4+, whichever works for you. Going FFA on a large map with 7 AIs can also get busy. - Personalities. In my (limited) experience, the aggressive is the most challenging. It will harass you early if it's anywhere near you, and generally keep you busy. Combine this with allied AIs on research or economic to get a second
