Forgboy.. actually I was going to ask you if there was some way to get 1 license to use at a lan party to show the other guys the game and play with everyone. We have some LAN Partys ever so often (about every month or so) and some of the guys don't really like games like demigod (they usually play call of duty 4). What does stardock feel about using one license only in the lan party session to play with about 10 other guys? (I kn

Hey guys, calm down. This is a misunderstanding, not an Internet jihad against Stardock/RYG/whoever. Going completely insane on them like this is not helpful when simply pointing out why the page in question is wrong would be a lot more effective.
Goo I think would be DRM, but its an optional thing. Nothing Stardock has put out uses it, including Demigod.
They seem to take it to the extreme, yeah. I mean, I registered my new fridge to get the warranty started, but I don't think my fridge uses DRM. :P The issue I think is how they define DRM is different then how most people do. I mean, almost nobody would claim WoW uses DRM, but by their definition it does. Likewise with Demigod, I don't consider it DRM (the program doesn't do any checking of its own validity, the pirate version is effectively identical to the release re
If you're buying through Impulse, I'd create an Impulse account first. Then buy with that. It should activate pretty much immediately.
They weren't, directly. They were just creating traffic with things like a version check on startup and attempted (and failing) validation that was bringing down the servers through collateral damage. That problem has been fixed now. The current connection problems are unrelated, and don't affect everybody. But for those who they do affect (like me), they're pretty frustrating. Hopefully todays update will solve that.
Why is it that every time I see doubledigit in a thread, I also see rampant name calling? What is this, the WoW forums?
Looking forward to it!
The manual (page 15): also states: LAN Games Players can also play on their local area network (LAN). Demigod has no restriction on licensed copies on the LAN so go ahead and have fun!
Well, there you go! [e digicons][/e]
3. Any chance we might get a LANish type add-on client? If you recall, with Starcraft, and I think some of the original Warcraft games, you could install a "LAN-version only" that would only work properly if the "main copy" was running on your home lan. You could join multiplayer games, but only X copies of the LAN version would work. I am a big gamer, but my fiance isn't one so much (she'll play the occasional game). Also, I have friends over so
Favor points are probably your #1 issue if the connection stuff works for you. However other people can't play at all. What's worse? Favor points, or not being able to play the game? It's clear which of these problems is the real priority.
Interesting update. I'm still not clear on exactly what the NAT facilitator is doing in a case where ports have been manually opened. In that case, why is a facilitator required at all? If the ports are all opened and forwarded to the right place, the other player should be able to connect to me directly. Maybe it's a silly question, I don't know because I can't see the code. But if I put myself in the DMZ, why do I need to talk to the facilitator at all anymore? Looking in th
Given the number of people who can't play at all due to connection problems, *everything* else is low priority.
Here's what I posted in the tech support forum: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/347640 But effectively, I can't connect to games. Connection Info dialog usually comes up completely empty (I don't even see myself). Very rarely it'll work once, but won't work again after that. I thought it was the router, but I replaced it with a brand new D-Link 825 and the problem was exactly the same. Even being in the DMZ doesn't work, which I find bizzare since I *know* (and have ve

This is a relatively young industry, the idea that Steam will somehow own the entire market for all time is pretty silly. Now if someone wants to point out w
Is the thing that blew up on Friday going to be coming back, or is that part of Wednesday's beta? Also, will new maps be on tap once this is sorted out along with new Demigods?
Am I the only one who dont want to read status reports but to play the game?
No. Obviously all of us with connection issues would rather be playing. But Frogboy isn't the only one working on these problems (and likely isn't even the primary one working on it). Him writing these updates doesn't really slow down the work of getting those connection problems solved. If he wasn't writing these updates, the problems woul
We're not sick of it, no. :) But once the connection stuff is solved, you might get sick of it. The updates will probably get less frequent at that point, and thats cool. :) I'd rather see occasional instresting updates then see you try to keep updating every day even when you have nothing to say.
The difference between "creative use of mechanics" and "exploit" is entirely dependent on what the developers do about it. If they say "cool", then its fine. If it's a bug and they squash it, then its an exploit. It looks like a bug to me, like they intended the caps to be per minion group rather then individual type and just put the "IF" in the wrong spot. Any programmer has done that more then a few times (speaking from experience :) ). But until they say what they th
I'm looking forward to the proxies, hopefully they'll let me connect. Do you plan to do a test with people who have connection problems now to verify that they actually solve the problem?
I didn't realize so many people actually used XP 64. It was never meant for home use.
Is the proxy going to be an optional thing we turn on, or will it get used automatically? Keep up the good work.
Update to this. I found the log file. It's pretty huge, but here is the first bit from when I last tried to host a game. The last line I copied in (NAT_FAILED) suggests something is going wrong, but I can't tell what. Should also mention that I'm using Vista 64 bit, and the router is connected over ADSL using PPPoE in Canada. Thanks for any help!
