Oh and I meant to mention: you should try unlocking hanger defenses and place as many as you possibly can (by tactical slot upgrades, scuttle other things...) at your most likely to be hit planets. If you can get four or more stacked they will frighten away cap ships.

Exactly. Two cap ships - once that supports shields, one that battles, and tons of frigates and some elite cruisers! I get cheaper stuff when budgeting requires it or I"ve done the research to up their abilities, and when the new planets are already owned I get the planet destroyers/defenders. The farther away from home planets they get, the more robotics/support vessels.

Excellent post, ray! I've noticed that about the siegecraft too. How did you figure out that that proportion is the best? Did you do the math or play various ones and watch... ? Just curious! I do something very similar, altho because I dislike having to micromanage every battle, I usually slot in two cap ships, one is firepower, one has a shield/colonizing, or other support features. I particularly like having shield restore, the fleet lasts forever that way and soon you've unlocked all the cap

The NOvalith is smart enough to only fire on enemy planets. The wait time is for the radiation to die down, which is why you only need to hit a planet once. Have you tried selecting them all and then pinning them? Sometimes you have to use shift-tab as the method of selection for the tab shift to work properly. Hope that helps! :)

Oh my, I just took a look at point blank and made the mistake of setting the AI on hard. Tough game! My usual strategy doesn't work! I'm just coughing out ships as fast as metal and credits will let me, which isn't that often.

I find the grating tough to take too altho I really can't fault the quality and professionalism of the voice acting. I haven't played a full game with them yet because of it. What can I say? I'm very auditory! Grating is grating! I think the robotics cruiser's pronouncement is hysterically cute. Made me glad I paid for the research to get him. ;)

Yes it is! Remember, increasing cap ships won't necessarily increase the cost of the fleet. The first upgrade to overall fleet cap gives you a 9% tax on income. It's pretty manageable even with just 3 planets. But increasing from there can really be a drain if you don't time it right. Sometimes, if I"ve just lost a lot of ships, I'll go ahead and increase cap ship limit, get that, and then incresae fleet total once I've upgraded my second or third cap ship so it has a fleet to protect. That way

the same thing happened to me. Is there any way to offload the demo without having to uninstall the real game first???

Check out this site for the actual numbers in the program, which makes more sense than the guide. I do the multiple cap ships actually _after_ the first upgrade to fleet cap, got dyslexic there, but before second upgrade, sometimes. right before, and then once I've tricked out my capital ship with full experience upgrades, I up my fleet allowance and give it a fleet to take care of. If you play Advent you definitely want to consider paired caps. Just look at the hull and shield numbers

Oh heck now I feel like an idiot. As someone pointed out in another thread, you meant online playing. My strategy with cap ships may not work with that, I've seen posts where people disdain multiple cap ships, but some that like the idea, especially in terms of Advent. if you look at the ship specs I really can't think of another solution to Advent's limitations. It's all a numbers game after all, so if your numbers are almost half of someone else's... double up! and have more! They ca

Did you perhaps get the victory message and not know how it worked exactly and agree to keep playing? The game can tell you you've won before you get all the planets. If you click "OK" to keep playing, it will go on ... well,I don't know how long. I played until I was okay with saying good-bye to all my highly-ranked cap ships heh. ;)

The post didn't mention whether this was for AI or online, it only mentioned "total newbie." I've only played AI but that's no reason to go into attack mode. Don't most total newbies tend to play AI first in order to learn the game? Wake up and smell the anti-matter, dude.

OH yeah! I forgot to mention - whenever I get a Cap ship, I also spend money right away on increasing its experience. If you don't increase the experience you won't survive long. The bare minimum for advent is: increase the experience of your capital ship, have at least one that restores shields and up that to 2 as soon as possible, and have at least one point in hull in research before taking on a real battle, preferably even before taking on pirates. Playing as TEC I can do all this easy enoug

I love playing as Advent because I like the voices and the lines of the ships. But it's harder than TEC, that's for sure. I can sleepwalk through a game as TEC, not as Advent. I've been able to get into Trade right away, but only on a map with very few phase lanes so that my first 3-4 planets were lined up, no other way for the enemy to get to them. Either way it's worth it, because without the income you can't boost your fleet to the size it needs to be. The real trick with

Good points! Okay, here's my first try at helping someone here: Since you can't do anything without money, and percentages early mean lots of money later, I don't skimp on the research for trading, or even population increases or crystal/metal increases, especially if I'm low in one or the other because all of the nearest planets are all desert or all ice. I like a high percentage of cap ships to fleet ratio. That is, I will upgrade my fleet in terms of capitol ships first b
