Thanks for the update, Brad; I really can't wait for the upcoming patch. And super congrats on your new job, Sorian! You totally deserve to be there!

Reply to What is Granny? in Demigod

What I used was 3D Studio Max 8 with Obsidian's (Neverwinter Nights 2) released exporter for Granny v6. While, Demigod only uses v7, it auto-converts the model to work. The problem is that animations will not work with that old exporter (and from my attempts, exporting maps doesn't work well at all either.) We have pretty much been crossing our fingers, hoping that GPG/Stardock will give us a Granny 3D exporter that will work correctly. I have no clue about the legalities of it, but as Obsidi

I loved all that I heard, although not mentioning the auto-downloading is making me wonder if that idea isn't going to be implemented. It would be an awesome feature, so I totally hope it gets in there! Keep up the awesome work, Stardock and GPG!

Creating a blank map isn't as easy as it would appear. I still cannot get it to work correctly (has no ground that you can issue orders on, and when a unit dies it freezes >.

Thanks ^_^ Once we get the official modding support, I am planning to release a series of videos on things such as: - An overview of how modding works and what can/cannot be added and changed. - Creating maps - Creating character models - Creating textures - Creating projectiles - Editing the UI Things like that.

Only rectangles are going to work for that since the functions that call upon the areas will be expecting a rectangle. If you end up needing a circle from the center of an area, you can put that into your script separately. Now just for fun:

I absolutely love this news, seeing as this is really the first response we have had to the Granny 3D exporter questions. I hope that all goes well and that GPG is able to give us something that we can use to mod the heck out of the game. I am totally wanting to make some video tutorials if we end up getting this stuff. For the DLC thing, people generally get scared of high prices like $9.00. I think that the least that could be done is that make every single demigod that gets release

- Extract dgdata.zip to a folder called dgdata. - Rename dgdata.zip to something else like dgdata2.zip. - Rename the folder from dgdata to dgdata.zip Now just edit the files in that folder. New files will not be seen until you close the game and reload it, but altered files will be updated if you just restart a match with ctrl-F10 in singleplayer.

I would assume that they would get some for of QA to test a mod that you upload, make sure that it isn't doing anything malicious, and things like that. That, or perhaps have a community testing ground of some sort.

Welcome back! On the topic of modding: You are tempting me so badly. I want some more information on this modding system, although I am stuck with thinking -- sorry for mentioning this a million times -- that we won't get a Granny exporter for custom models. Though it would be awesome if we did! Even without that there are quite a few UI changes and small gameplay fixes (TB auto-attack in fire mode) that I would love to throw out there, so modding cannot come out too soon for me! Well

Well, that was easy. The frost mode weapon has some extra code: AttackAction = 'AttackRanged', AttackMoveAction = 'AttackRangedMove', AttackStructureAction = 'AttackRanged', AttackStructureMoveAction = 'AttackRangedMove', All that we need to do to fix that is to add that code to the fire weapon. I hope that they ammend this. If they don't by the time mods come out, then it shall be modded super, super fast.

Since this occurs when in one mode and not the other, I wonder if there may be a slight change in the weapon setup. That, or perhaps it is an issue with animations. Hard to say, but if I remember after work, I will try to take a look at it. Don't really expect anything since it likely is an issue deeper in the game, but who knows? Posting here so that I can track the post since my mind sucks >_

What you can do is attach a command to the target field of the shortcut. This saves time if you want the game to start in a certain resolution in windowed mode. It should look something like: "C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Demigod\bin\demigod.exe" /windowed 1280 720
I’d be curious to find out if modders could add new units and such.
Modders cannot add new models due to the fact that the models use the Granny 3D format and that there is no exporter that any of us can get to put our models in-game. If GPG could somehow release an exporter for us, then you would see custom models working. So, aside from unit/structure/map models, you will be able to see custom sound files (FMOD), custom video files (Bink),

As far as VoIP goes, from Frogboy's comment on it, he said they were going for high quality voice chat, which might leave some people with sub-par connections not able to use it. On the bright side, we might actually be able to hear what people say when they use it!

Messed around some more! I know that the pink and purple look pretty close, and the non-light blue looks horrible on the unclean beast, but aside from that, do you think that these colours go well? I set Light to pure white and Dark to pure black.

When I get back from work I shall try out some different colour setups, with pure white and black for the teams, and with more vibrant colours for the Demigods, and then take some more screenshots of a more frantic clump of dudes ^_^
