Well...to what distance from the server should we test it? I'm just asking, i've done my share of testing on this thread, as you know. Do not assume that all people who have lag problems in this game are so naive to let torrents in the background or other stuff like this. I've measured (with a program called BitMeter) how much bandwidth DG uses in a 5v5 match and my avg upload/download usage was around 45 kilobytes/sec.
Hmm... I'm assuming that's for each dir
I belive Warskull's post was mainly aimed at the comments that people who have logged some play time are no longer elligible for a full refund because the game "is working for them". I think his main point was yes, they have logged playtime but there are aspects of Demigod that, despite being worked on (hard) by the dev team, still aren't working properly. By this I mean the connectivity problems, favor and things of that nature. You may disagree but that sounds to me a
20KB/s (note the capital B) is about 0.16Mb/s. If that is indeed somewhere around the maximum upload required for a 5v5 match (which I would hope so, as it's a lot for a game) then most of those DSL lines with .3Mb/s uploads should be fine... as long as they aren't running BT and other junk in the background as well. -dolynick
I can see the OP's point even if I don't find it all that terrible that it requires Pixel Shader 3.0. Pixel Shader 3.0 has been around for quite a few years now though. I don't upgrade my video card that often either and to be honest it isn't even something I consider as a factor anymore because it has been around long enough that it has almost been a non issue for at least 2-3 years. Simply put, I imagine that that GPG simply figured that the majority of players would a
Lovely post Frogboy! One thing that might help with the impulse stuff is a way to log out of chat once you've logged in, rather than 'locking' it into the background (drives me nuts!) Edit: First, woot!
Agree on that point completely. I noticed that it doesn't disconnect even if you close the chat window and that was my thought exactly. Granted, IRC shouldn't us
Yesterday I posted this: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/352771 for more or less the same reasons as you have created this thread. One thing you should keep in mind though is that connectivity problems in matchmaking and connectivity problems with people dropping after a game starts are not the same issue. They're not even being handled by the same dev teams. Matchmaking and lobby problems are for Stard

I get people stuck attempting to connect to me like that all the time when I join someone else's custom game, even though I connect to them just fine. This almost never happens if I am hosting my own custom game though. I don't think it has anything to do with multiple IP addresses, as I only have 1 assigned to the workstation I play Demigod from. No amount of port forwarding, AV software killing, firewall disabling or even DMZing seems to resolve the issue. -dolyn
I'm really worried that when proxy servers come up this problem will just be tossed under a rug
Yes, a point I tried to make in my OP. Proxies are a band aid, not a fix. Letting proxies cover up the remaining connectivity problems and setting connectivity fixes on the backburner after that will only inject more lag into the online play experience. Sometimes there is already more than enough lag already.
But yes in your case with the rout
No, you shouldn't have to, but this isn't DG specific and your network should not have to be setup the way it is. One happened before the other is all. If games were working until your network was altered and they stopped working would you blame the games? If you are able to connect to your modem and disable it acting as a DHCP like I am talking about then none of the above are required.
That's all well and good but it really shouldn't be necessary. Aside from VPN through this particular router I have never encountered another game or software app that had this many issues connecting despite having the ports it claims to require already forwarded. Bit Torrent and other P2P apps are fine. The user in question and I have successfully played a number of different games online together with no issues. Supcom, also P2P has no issues with my router.
I've played a few games in the last couple days that have made me start to wonder if UB's spit is a little off. A high level spit does seem to do an awful lot of damage for a demigod who can be so fast that he's virtually impossible to catch and kill. I actually died once or twice one game (mid game too) simply because I did not expect spit to do THAT much damage that fast and by the time I realized it was it was too late. Yes, that is my fault and I won't argue that but it
I am aware of all the hours Stardock has been putting into fixing the connectivity errors in the game and I appreciate the hard work but I'm still seeing all sorts of problems with online play: -I've opened ports multiple ways trying to make sure that my network is passing the data properly. This includes disabling SPI, opening UDP 6000, 6073 and 6100-6200; forwarding the entire 6000-6200 range; and explicitly opening 6000, 6073 and all even ports from 6112 to 6132 in both

I was playing late last night with the 2nd patch for the day and while it wasn't great it was working. Today, however, is a completely different matter. Custom games seem completely gone. I can refresh the list until the cows come home and not see a game. If I try to host a game I get a "NAT Facilitator" error and then a CVP (?) error. Nothing has changed on my end for networking so I'm wondering what's going on. Are the Demigod matchmaking servers
First off, congrats on the anniversary. Now to the matter at hand... Honestly, this patch seems much worse. There were problem before but now I might be able to successfully connect to a game lobby maybe 1 in every 4 tries if I'm lucky. Then, once in there is the (usual?) screwiness with getting everyone connected but it's hard to tell if it's any better or worse than prior to this patch. These problems are only compounded with the constant join/leave that se
