do things like these happen in other games too? because such things could happen when your hardware is not working 100% correctly (e.g. overheated video card or broken ram etc) ? but it looks cool :=)

to answer the question in the thread title: every tcp/udp game uses a port number. no matter if it is internet or LAN (which is, technically, the same anyway). the difference is, in a LAN environment you can send out "discovery" packets, they are broadcasted to all computers in a lan. if a host is open, it can respond and tell the client the port number the game runs on. so the user doesn't need to know the port. but still, the game uses one (or more) port(s) to handle connect
thanks for the helpful answer capt sealy. @phranx: thanks, will read that. played a game with a friend yesterday and although this is still a beta it was *SO* much fun. oh my god i'm gonna waste hours playing it...
edit: You should not be able to move your mouse off the first screen if Demigod is not windowed and it's running in fullscreen mode.
i second that. btw: hy deadmg ;)
btw, we turned "interface metric" to 10 in the tcp ip v4 options and now the game appears in the game browser. but direct connect would still be very nice :) cheers...
ok, and how do you control the numerous units that come out of the gates? or do you only control your hero?
Hy :) don't know if this will be implemented in the final, but a "direct connect" option would be great. we're three persons who have successfully connected our computers over the internet with "OpenVPN" (similar to hamachi, but opensource). it's a virtual network card that directly connects computers to each other. we can ping our computers, open file shares with start-run-\\computername etc, all working fine, even games like dungeon siege and supcom work great. <p
ok, i'm not asking for a "manual" in traditional meaning. just a quick n dirty explanation of what is going on in this game :)
This might sound stupid but i have no idea how to play this game. yeah i can run around with my character and shoot at things, but thats as far as i got. what's the goal (apart from "kill the opponents") and how do you reach it?. some sort of manual out there? thanks for any hints..
