I should mention one thing. For me, I could not just turn gamma correction off. I needed to set all antialiasing (since gamma correction appears to be a part of antialiasing) to "Application-Controlled"
I am running an 8600GTS 512MB and I have encountered the same issue. I have been trying to find out what is going on: and you were right, its all due to this gamma correction option. Interestingly enough, I did not encounter this issue in all beta releases prior to 2B. I guess it is because something was done to the selection function (such as highlighting the entire object being selected). Thanks a lot, -Nate
