Its just not acceptable to release a primarily multiplayer game nowadays that doesnt have features like clan support, proper stats, proper automatching etc. Those things are standard nowadays and have been for a decade.
I absolutely have to interject the possibility that GPG simply did not envision Demigod as a "competitive" game. While clearly inspired by DOTA style maps, some design decisions were made that clearly make the g

My only advice is to take a look at this post: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/345345 Check out Monk's PDF for a little more in depth info. If nothing in this post works, then the most likely scenario is that your ISP is blocking or hindering P2P traffic in some way. ISP's have begun doing this in response to P2P file sharing applications such as BitTorrent or LimeWire.
Is there anything I can do, short of closing minor background programs (MSN, AIM, mIRC) in order to free up bandwidth to play this game without ruining the experience for everyone else and having to quit out to allow the others to play? To be perfectly honest, a host that is trying to get a good game going with no leavers is unlikely to care about the reasons you've been disconnected for. As a host, all he cares about is that you have a history of getting disconnected from games (be it from rage quits, flaky ISP, exceptions, etc). This makes you a risky person to allow to play. With that said, I definately feel there should be a way to let your disconnections counter "decay". Over time it sho

This seems fairly neccesary at this point. There are many times where I've seen people in #demigodgame on IRC screaming at so-and-so to stop trying to join their game. It's borderline griefing. The OP is most likely correct that there will be some people who will simply keep trying to join a game out of spite after they've been kicked, thus increasing the chances of the lobby freezing or crashing.

It's a good idea, especially as more systems are put in place to track rage quits and disconnects. It would be bad to realize 15 minutes into the game, that some weird settings were in place and you no longer want to play. However there is also a counter-argument that hitting the Ready button is a sort of contract, and you should make sure you are ok with the current game's setting before pressing it.
