Try to avoid installing from CD and patching (where the problem occurs), and instead download and install the game from Impulse. This is what worked for me recently.

The sound issue: The random / incorrect sound clips playing. This problem typically manifests itself first as the voice clip "This would be faster with wings" playing during the opening sequence, followed by random sound clips playing during Demigod selection, and random sound clips being played during events in the match. I would point out that you get the cleave benefit at level 8 without doing anything except reaching level 8. That is not to say God Strength is a bad skill, but it makes much more sense late game. Rook starts with a slow attack, but has very big Auto-attack increases per level, to the point that he is ridiculous late game if you let him slap you. So you get more out of that skill later.

Well, it has been a long road. After 16 versions and getting feedback from the great players and great modders in the community, this mod is the best I could come up with to balance Demigod. All of the health levels are commented out, so extra "heal" life added on level up does nothing anyways. This would also seem to be intentional since this file has been worked on multiple times, with new patch features added (adjustHealth = true) and the DLC Demigods having entries added here. There appears to be no rhyme or reason why some demigods get a bonus amount of mana equal to their pool increase amount, and others do not. eg: Occ gets +118 max energy (adjusted = true)

Actually, the Demigod forum can be construed as the manual. Having said that, read up on your favorite demigod, grab the mod package download, play a few Skirmish games against the Hard Enhanced AI. When you get comfortable, start joining a few online "n00b" games, and you're on your way.

There is no better favor item pick for the AI. The favor item(s) for the AI to choose from are listed in a section at the end of each build.
