That sounds nice, but medicare has dramatically improved the well-being of many senior citizens and the majority of the opponents of current health reform would not support people who seek to have it removed, so again I say you are on the fringe.
You do know that many conservatives, including pre-policitian Ronald Reagan, opposed Medicare when it was first instated? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRdLpem-AAs

I'm sure you've heard of separation of church and state. It is not the place of the gov't to press Christian values onto everyone. If you are going to argue that the gov't should enforce Christian values, then it would follow that it would become a law to attend a Christian church every Sunday as well. edit: Also, redirecting this conversation to Christianity completely ignores the notion of people having the 'right' to have health care provided to them, which I was explic

Banned for not caring about porn. Don't you know the industry is starting to collapse in the face of homemade porn? They are working people too, and have to make their living somehow!

@ Aroddo If a person felt the moral obligation to provide goods and services to the less fortunate, there are plenty of avenues available for this that are not controlled by the government. People being morally obliged to aid others has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not such aid is a 'right' to those who cannot provide it for themselves. In short, it should not be up to the government to force the people into performing health/moral/good behavior - it should b
Some americans are just twisted. They want to have "the right to bear arms", but having the right to free medical care seems to be beyond their comprehension.
I've been gone for several days, and I won't likely read this whole thread by now, but I just wanted to say: No one else has to pay for a person's guns if he has the right to bear arms. That right means the person has to buy his own weapons (and for several of these weapons, has to get a liscenced fo
You say reform is needed? Then it must come from the government or it will never happen.
As far as I've seen, no one is saying that reform shouldn't come from the gov't, but that the reform should not include a gov't sponsored public option. There is plenty else the gov't can do, including as you said regulation about pre-existing condition (though there has to be some limit to this, otherwise people won't pay for health care until they get sick, go buy the health care, get trea
Your logic is flawed. You dislike Google becuse of something that didn't even happen to you . Not logical.
So does that mean I can't dislike Bernie Madoff because he didn't steal any of my money? It is perfectly logical to dislike someone or something because of an occurance that didn't happen to you personally. First hand experience is not necessary to form a valid opinion.

What you should be asking is if I would hold the door open for a man the same as I would for a woman. The answer is no, I would not (except for, as previously stated, extenuating circumstances).

I'll clarify about the holding-the-door-open thing. I would wait for a woman some distance behind me with the door, I would purposely (and generally discretely) get in front just to get the door. Though not as frequently, I also get car doors and pull out chairs. It's more than just "oh we're both here and I happen to be in front, I'm not going to close the door on you."

So basically you're saying that being a woman is the equivalent of a being a parapalegic man? ;) I tease. It was a strange comparison. I generally don't hold the door open for men outside of extenuating circumstances (they are carrying something or, as you suggested, have some disability or handicap), so by definition I am not treating women equally to men in that regard.
