@bmac2 & everyone still having problems. In my appinit I had wbsys.dll (windows blinds) installed from AlienGUIse. I did not have Google Desktop installed and it was the dll on the list. Uninstalling AlienGUIse removed this from the registry as well. The game launches fine now.
