Well, if you can wait a bit longer, SEV is in the works. Better everything, it should be great. I rather like MOO3, although it can be a bit trying at times. I didn't pay 9 bucks though, they paid ME a buck to buy it. LOL I got it for 19, and got a 20 dollar check in a rebate. Not a bad deal. MOO3 patched is not nearly as hideous as some make it out to be. Still, it can be sort of like reading quantum physics while having a headcold, and some people just don't l

Geeze, I don't know why people complain. Heck, I had to pay 10 bucks for the Star Wars beta, and I don't get jack squat! Well, I did get to suffer through all the crashes and weirdness, and report all the bugs. LOL Just wait for the *free* expansion if you don't want to pay, simple. fleabitfox

Well, I blasted MOO3 after it was released. I am not going to sing its praises now, but I think it is silly to dismiss it out of hand, if you really are a 4x fan. I mean cripes.. its free! It *would* be foolish to not pick it up, if you are a fan of the genre. It is very complex, and many AI issues are fixed, which was the main problem it had. The diplomacy is much repaired, altho there is still weirdness to be had. All in all tho, I would say get it cheap while you can. 4x games

I was a vocal complainer when MOO3 was released, I was quite upset with what was imo, a horrible decision to ship a clearly unfinished / not ready product. I was thankfully able to return it. I've followed the patch though, and since it WAS free on Amazon :CONGRAT: I repurchased it. I received it the day the code patch was released.. woot! Anyways, it is much improved now. Not perfect, but hopefully they will continue to fix it. It is more for those who really enjoy compl

"Personally, I'd like to see a more balanced start position for all races. And more use for stellar cartography -- everytime I finally get it, all of the planets are populated, so it does me little good." Not me! The ctrl-n is an option for those who want an easier (or harder) position to start in. Or you can deal with what the fates gave you as they do with the other races, and just play what you get. Much versatility, I don't see a reason to kill it. Stellar Cartography is

Evil: Neato Robot and cool-er icons! Good: Better (less dreary and angsty) music, and um.. better music! LOL I usually play evil if I am going to be a war machine, and good if I am going to win via other methods. For fun, set all races to good, and be evil, or vice-versa. Much fun to be had by all! ;p fleabitfox

Whole lot O snippy-ness going on! Relax people.. just a game. just a game... :p That said, people still are not getting it. "but it's not nearly as big of issue as the AI skipping key techs in their tech tree." Try.. 'it is not nearly a big an issue as the AI skipping trees.. TO ME'. Again, as hardcore as some players such as CM and others are about this game, and no matter HOW much they play it, the game STILL does not revolve around those players, which

Well, we've heard from several people who think the game is a cakewalk even at the highest level (even if some of them DO use mods, or loopholes ;p ) I am curious, since I've not done it myself yet. Has anyone say.. played a huge or gigantic galaxy, on intelligent or higher, with all AI's set to say.. 'lawful good', and you are an evyyl bitch? And likewise, has anyone set all the AIs to chaotic evil, and been a proverbial angel? I have a feeling those two sorts of games would play

I think most games with an 'impossible', 'masochistic' or other incredibly difficult settings should be VERY difficult if not impossible to win except by the extremely skilled with perhaps a bit of luck to boot. It is supposed to be a nearly impossible challange. As long as there are levels that CAN be beat even by those with not nearly as much TBS skill, as well as levels that are challaning for those of middling skill, the game is FINE. I agree the trade good should be fixed the way

Exactly xiahou.. I think it is rather hilarious that a few players feel that since the dev *has* taken the time to respond to posts and listen to requests, that they are now entitled to act as if the dev exists to cater to THEIR particular whims as if they speak for the entirity of the GalCiv playing community. As I said in another thread.. GalCiv does not revolve around Codemonkey and a few others. You think they patched it wrong.. you feel it is not balanced right.. fine, that is you

"You nerf, people bitch. It's an old story. If you post on here, you're going to get flamed. We paid our 50$ so we have the right to bitch." Wrong, nothing gives you the 'right' to bitch other than your own desire to be obnoxious, rude and unreasonable. Amazing how the Internet makes people feel the anonymous nature of forums, etc. gives them a free reign to treat people in ways no one would treat someone else in the 'real world'. The problem isn't the feedback. The problem i

Code Monkey, Staffa.. no offense, but the game wasn't made just for the 2 of you. Your opinions of course are useful and valued, I'm sure.. but don't expect the game of GalCiv, the devs, and the community to revolve around 2 players. :p I hope they keep adjusting, balancing, UPDATING just like they are. The devs are hardly beholden to update the game on YOUR terms CodeMonkey.. get a grip. fleabitfox

'I suppose anyone who dissents or has a legitimate complaint is also a whiner.' Airing your issue in a polite, mature manner = good. Calling devs who have put out a plethora of updates even in between E3 and making an expansion lazy = rude. gotta call a spade a spade. ;p fleabitfox

Freddybear.. perhaps if you took the time to read the newest update changes, you would realize the irrelevancy of your question. Knowledge and silence looks much better than blathering ignorance. And the point is not to give the AI exploits. The point is to make it so neither the human or the AI players can use exploits. The dev team has already taken away what could be cosidered ai exploits because they were unbalancing. fleabitfox

Oh yes, and one more thing. Please name the # of games where the CEO of the company himself takes the time to sticky idea threads, post links to OTHER game companies games, chat with Joe Public Gamer, and have the consideration for general opinion. Take your time trying to find one. fleabitfox

Well, I was going to post about the abusiveness of the prior poster but it seems Brad got to it first. Geeze people.. one aspect of the game gets 'nerfed' to a point you don't agree with, and suddenly a support team that has easily been the *best* I've seen in almost 20 years of computer gaming is run through the wringer. Way to make 'em feel appreciated! Please, by all means insult them because you feel slighted, since the few opinions of the 'expert' players are so important, decenc

Well, imo, those should be called um.. 'some more wonders' or something then, not trade goods. LOL imo, a trade good is something you make that you had to work harder to get, but the benefit (other than the one it gives), is that you can trade it to other civs. Maybe they can make additional 'trade goods' in the expansion that are indeed trade goods, not tradable wonders. No one in their right mind would even bother: 1. Trading a good away to another civ to give t

um.. any chance you'll replace the ships? ;p We need more ship mods darnit! Wait.. we need ANY ship mods! >:( I have photoshop, and I am going to try to convert several of the SEIV ship sets over to GalCiv, but won't be easy, since I am not PhotoShop skilled, and not very artsy, either. The instructions that came with the ship encoder were nice, but sort of like greek to me. I am going to try to muddle through them though. I mean.. they are well written, but I am to de

It also depends on the star density. A tiny map is less affected by this. On a gigantic map, tight clusters with a bad starting position can make it *very* tough. But tiny can be very hard as well. Even small playing with all 5 on intelligent can be a challange. I've lost systems pretty quick to another race in a sector where they have 2. And it is a race for the resources, which easily screws up other strategies you may have. All in all.. I'm just pleased that there is su

Free is amazing, yup. I don't think it has anything to do with GalCiv, as much as the um.. quality of MOO3. But free *is* a good price for even that game, even if it is free 8 to 10 weeks after you actually pay for it, and not exactly free because you have to pay for shipping. ;p I'll probably (re)buy it now.. free is usually a good deal! fleabitfox

I used speed quite a bit, it is fairly powerful. There is a reason its cost went up in one of the patches! I wouldn't be surprised to see +2 disapper entirely, and +1 costing even more. On larger maps, it is even more powerful. I often sent a ship or three out towards the furthest points I could go with a colony ship (after getting a few in nearby sectors), trying to get systems that my opponents could just get to first, making it harder for them to even try to get the systems closer

Just like in real life though, having a strong military is a good idea. If you plan to win at all, you are probably going to have a strong economy. And throughout history, those cultures that had a strong economy but lacked a strong army were typically toast. This happened much more in earlier history, but more recently, Kuwait being invaded by Iraq is a good example. Lots of income via oil.. no military to speak of, an obvious target for a nasty regime. Being rich and being

If you think that any ladder truly indicates a fair assesment of each players skill, you are deluded. Even on Warcraft III, and other ladders, there are a few that got to the top because they are actually good, several that got there employing cheese tactics, and some on the games that are moddable will find a way to cheat. If you have really placed near the top 'on many ladders', you must surely know this. I never look at another players score (or skills or equipment, etc) and say 'o
