I get that error too. Last time I had to reinstall to fix it and I lost my saves. I DON'T want that to happen again. Come to think of it, I'd rather not reinstall again either. HELP!

This seems to be a bug. When I spend money to destabilize a major race, the UI indicates that amount is also being spent on each minor race.
After a few failed experiments, I followed this recommendation from the FAQ. Despite being a PITA AND deleting all my saves, it did in fact work for me: "To repeat: Reinstall GalCiv from the CD and then reinstall SDCentral. It is the SDCentral setup program that does the detecting of what version of GalCiv is already installed and prepares it to not have to download as much."
I'm having the same problem, as is the only other person lurking around on IRC this hour. I tried downloading the retail installer and doing a clean install, but it's still givng me the error on galciv.ex_. Is it possible the server files are corrupt?
This thread is so huge, sorry if any of these are repeats... 1) You cannot use the military governor screen to switch from building "Nothing" to a ship. The interface implies this, and it would be SUPER useful for those of us who save our military build points for a rainy day. 2) If you use the military governor while the planets list is open, the list is not updated when you use the governor to change ship production. You have to back out and reopen the screen. :P
I am on my way to the store now. :)
I used to like AVault too, but now it's coverage is SO poor it's not useful to the serious game consumer. I've rarely been disappointed with a game that got a decent review from Gamespot, and when there is an occasional exception it seems that most other sites like the game too, so I can just chalk it up to personal opinion. For example, does anybody else think Ghost Recon is a stinkfest? Same IMO with most of the Resident Evil games, blech. But when Gamespot say a game is BAD, I'm inclined
Nah, previews aren't going to cut it. Sites are invariably more forgiving of beta versions. Question: if Gamespot is unreliable, what's the alternative? I don't think it's true that Gamespot favors the games it promotes. Just this week, they panned Tao Feng, despite having covered it very closely. Same with MOO3, and MOO3 also had a ton of advertising on the site.
Technically 1000 star systems which could be greater than or less than 1000 worlds. ;p
Yeah Gamespot is slow, but it's the only site I trust. IGN is a joke, Gamespy is unreliable, and most other sites have really crappy coverage. That's why it's important to get those advance copies to Gamespot in a timely fashion. I'll bet the same guy who reviewed MOO3 will review this game, and he took forever to get the MOO3 review up. He's also not a great reviewer; his video review for MOO3 was PAINFUL. He seriously needs to work on his ummms and uuhhhs.
I'm gonna preorder/order GalCiv as soon as Gamespot gives it a good score. Hopefully Stardock has given them an advance copy! :D
Researching alternatives to crap MOO3
Hey there, I'm one of those pesky people who never buys games without reading a review (fortunately for the developers of GalCiv, that's why I am not a MOO3 owner). Does anyone know if Gamespot has an advance copy yet, and if so when the review will go up? Once I see a review > 7.5, I am so there. Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait, I really hope some reviews are posted before the actual download date. Yay for downloadable games! - Morgan
