Theres been a keygen out for GalCiv for awhile now, the crack was probably for one of the updates.
If you go to a forum and post someting like that expect it to get closed. If I posted a similar thing about Gal Civ on these forums what would think would happen? I'd get flamed, told to go play MoO3 and various other insults. I'd say it would get closed, but I don't know if this forum even has the capability. Its nice its improved slightly but some real forum software would be better. Anyway... Quit trying to stir things up, you wern't having a fun joke for everyone, you were having a
Thats funny, alot of people who had only followed the games development were posting for weeks that GalCiv was going to be great. Its on these forums and other forums, I never saw them get told they're thoughts didn't matter till the played it. Just because I take a more cautious approach when it comes to new games I have no right? And I wasn't even commenting on gameplay, it was comparing his review and what people found so wrong with it. I've so far got what equates to being a number
I have to pay to have my thoughts heard? I've been following the game a good while now and reading the forums, I lack a large amount of direct experience with the game this is true. But I don't see how that invalidates my arguement, unless i'm totally wrong on some things here. Yes, players have the same wide range of trades available. But would the AI accept as many? Where it takes the human time to think up trades act on them, then get the AI to accept them the AI does it in no time.
If you're going to quote something, it'd be good to include at least the rest of the sentence. "As a result of its timing, Galactic Civilizations is in the rare position of being able to capitalize on the failings of Master of Orion 3. Unfortunately, out of the box, it is hard to recommend due to its own failings — although it is equally hard not to be optimistic about its potential given both current and future patches, as Stardock has a strong record of staying committed to their proj
Besides for what intially looked like cheating that was corrected, what glaring errors and ommisions are there in the review? Please, point them out because i'm having trouble finding fault with the review besides for the intial bit that got corrected. And have you nothing else to say about what I said? Also, no, I don't have the game yet i'm waiting for the demo to try it so I can decided to buy it. I don't see what that has to do with anything here though, my post was just on the revi
This is just sad, can noone accept that the reviwer just didn't like the game in the end? I thought you wanted a "Tom Chick" review Brad, accepting good and bad crticism of the game. Now I can understand with the suggestion that it was cheating intially, that the only way to see that it wasn't was by a debugger should tell us something. If theres very little feedback for the player theres not much explanation for something like that happening. But besides for the suggestion of cheating
From the sounds of things it seems the AI took lessons in trading from the Civ3 AI. If the AI is more inclined to trade amongst themselves, moreso then they ever would with the player its something worth complaining about. Though this may not be the case it would explain alot of things people have seen, where the AI can pull off some interesting things that seem like cheating through use of trades.
Wait, you're not sure if it does? I thought it had been stated the AI only saw planet classes, not resources. And if they can see resources, does this mean they might also be able to see all anomalies as well? Or does the AI just start with the whole map explored?
Yes, I said I knew about the starbases. It really seems like things were oversimplified. Build a starbase anywhere in the sector and its bonuses will be applied, thats the only set radius. Its all straightforward and takes away any real involvement needed. In civ games bad manangement of terrain could make or break you. However in here your planets are just based on quality so that isn't much of an issue, you just have a lack of terrain for otherthings. Having starbases which say boost
I appreciate your reply but I already said I didn't expect MoO combat. I pointed out that while it is Civ style combat it lacks an important part of that which is terrain. I'm not asking for MoO-style combat since theres no chance of it being added, I was just asking for more factors to be a part of combat and to help make space not as bland.
Geez, the reaction gets worse and worse to things in here. He has a legitimate request. The combat as it stands is pretty dull. Just simple numbers back and forth is all it is, I can't see how theres much manuerving invovled. See enemy, go in straight line to enemy and kill enemy. The problem is though this game follows the Civ design for some things it left out something vital. That thing is terrain. Combat in civ is pretty simplistic, but thats alleviated by having terrain bonuses/pen
So the whole story that we're restricted to playing one race for is just random events and watching normal alliances? Surely this isn't right. If you're going to restrict people with the goal of creating a better story why do it just with random events? From what I gather only a few affect you on a wide level, otherwise they're as noteworthy as building X ship at Y planet. But they said the game is going to be improved, maybe playing other races can be part of it?
If only it were a true, a _multiplayer_ space game with _ship design_.
I don't think its so much people not wanting to adapt as not wanting to be screwed over on the roll of the dice. UP aren't as bad since you can vote, but having no way to submit resolutions ruins that as well. The point is many people don't like random events. It may make it new and fun games for some people, but for others its the equivalent of the AI starting out with full fleets and boosted economy.
If you were looking for MoO2 in MoO3 and didn't find it I wouldn't suggest trying in GalCiv either. The only thing common really is the space theme. GalCiv is mostly Civ in space, with more emphasis on diplomacy then anything else. The only "terrain" improvements are starbases, and combat is just bigger is better. All space is the same really, besides for anomalies(aka goodie huts) so there isn't anything tactical in the combat. You can't hide in a nebula or shield your oncoming fleet in an aste
From what i've heard the best way to deal with elections is just 'cheat' it. Lower taxes a month before election time, viola the people love you. Just raise them once its over with.
Its been abandoned to cheaters? Speaking of which, what will happen when cheats come out for GalCiv? Is there any cheat protection with the metaverse?
Er, random events that can end the entire game for you? This can't be happening, can it? If this is true we really need an option to turn them off, or at least rebalance some of them. I don't think many want to build up an Empire so one random event can kill them out of the blue.
Go to www.rarlabs.com and download WinRAR to unrar things. It also supports un-archiving many other filetypes and is better setup then say winace or winzip.
Its actually a pretty good idea, all you guys would really be doing is trolling. If I came in here and talked about GalCivs flaws real or imagined, while simultaneously touting MoO3 do you think i'd get a warm welcome? I think theres plenty enough room for both games, i've been enjoying MoO3 and it looks like i'll enjoy GalCiv. The two really only seem close in the space aspect, otherwise GalCiv seems more Civ in space then MoO3. As for letting dissapointed players know about GalCiv, gi
As people have said the races aren't all that different in the end. Though alien races allow for some of the odder abilitys like rock eating and telepathy. Races also add a distinctive personality to enemies sometimes. But mostly what added races are good for is variation. Eventually the same look of ships, same race and rounded out abilitys get boring. Is a Cat-man with feline reflexes that different? Not really, but the cat-man race has different looking ships and would improve the va
One thing I was wondering, is there a regular planetary queue? One you can use on the fly for individual planets, not needing to assign govenors? Govenors sound great for later game and whatnot, but i'd imagine the middle portion i'd still be fairly invovled in what everything produces, so the ability to queue a ship or two on a planet without setting up govenor would be nice. Is it already like this?
