I can't download any of the GC2 files - SDC starts downloading gc2.xml, but stops part-way through (at 8%, except for the Chicago server, which gets a bit further) with "Connection timed out" errors. This has been the same for the past three days. I can, however, download and install any of the "free stuff" on SDC without a problem. I tried requesting the same gc2.xml URL (discovered with ethereal) using Opera, and it too stopped part-way through

I suspect it means the star which had most influence *on* that race, not the most influential star in that race's empire!
Could it also take into account hitpoints? The best defenders aren't necessarily the ones with the highest defence value. Took me a while to realise this one. ;) I forget how many BAxes and BShips have, but IIRC BShips have more than BAxes? What about experience?
To get those extra points for positive picks, maybe the player should be *heavily* penalised - something like -50% diplo or HP to get a *single* extra attribute point. It might not be so extreme, but it would have to be balanced properly.
I had a game in which *Sol* was purple! Perhaps a side-effect of early experiments with the jump drive, perhaps...
Perhaps they traded or (more likely) extorted the technologies from a good civilisation while there were still some around? Is it possible to acquire through diplomacy alignment-specific techs that you wouldn't normally be able to research? I'm not sure if that's a good 'feature' to have in the game or not...
It seems well known, documented, and explained away that the AI can see the entire map from the start of the game. However, I now suspect that they can *always* see the *entire* map - where all your ships are and suchlike?! Either that, or their sensor range is a *lot* more than that specified on the ship info screen... Example; in my current game I've just built the Eyes of the Galaxy (or whatever it's called, I forget) - giving me an obscene scanner range. :) I have two cons
I have Earth pumping out colony ships from turn one - every turn counts in the expansion phase IME; Several times I've colonised a choice planet just one turn before another race managed to get there! :) The colony ship you start with only has 100M people on it, so isn't as useful for building colony ships, so I use this' colony for building my scouts.
Does it only appear when you have the additional multimedia patch from StarDock? I don't remember ever seeing that image, but I only downloaded the multimedia update last night...
I like the idea of star systems becoming Uber-planets - combining all their resources. I'm not sure about how much this will add to the game though, as multiple-habitable-planet systems seem to be the exception rather than the rules IME (playing mostly on "common" hab planets). I'd love more macro and less micro in the mid-late game, but I don't think adding a new tech branch is necessarily the right way to go. Surely this puts the player at another disadvantage in that while we're rese
I thought about this for quite a while, and I think I've worked it out: It's not that the game is played in a "Mirror" universe, as I first suspected. The image of the Earth is mirror-imaged because the camera is, in fact, *inside* the space station we can see! The camera, with a telescopic lens, is mounted in one of the windows of the station, pointing outwards toward a highly reflective surface - the result being a mirrored image of the very place the camera is located! Also, the s
The "Score Checkers" empire? LOL
I had this problem too, but I just realised that I hadn't registered on the metaverse - linking my game and stardock accounts, which is probably (haven't tested it yet) why I wasn't asked about the metaverse at the end of my game. :) There's a text link in the small paragraph at the top of the first metaverse page (click the link at the top). I don't remember reading that you had to do this anywhere before someone's message here, today. Needs a more prominient explanation of wh
Didn't when I just won. :( Do you have to play at a certain difficulty, or with certain options?
If that were the case, shouldn't the button have "Do not press" written on it in large red letters, and do something really nasty? :)
