For future reference, you can change the default icon size at the following registry key: User Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics] Value Name: Shell Icon Size Data Type: REG_SZ (String Value) Value Data: Size in Pixels (Default = 32) I recommend setting the value to 128, though unless you've changed most icons with IP, the standard Windows icons will render very pixelated.
Figured it out. I needed to manually set the system attribute for the Program Files folder using the attrib command attrib -r +s c:\Progra~1 Hope this helps someone out.
I know this can't be done through iconpackager but I tried putting a desktop.ini file in the Program Files folder along with the correct custom icon entries in the desktop.ini file and it still didn't change the icon. Has anyone had success changing the Program Files folder icon? Obviously it doesn't have a customize tab when right clicking and bringing up the folder's properties. Is there somewhere in the registry to make this change?
Use ResHacker to open the main .exe file in the StarOffice folder (don't have it so I don't know what it's called). Then use Action -> Change icon to change the icons stored within the .exe file. StarOffice references these icons. I haven't change a tray icon before so I'll have to let someone else answer that.
For stubborn programs that won't take a changed icon you have to change the icon embedded in the .exe. Open the .exe from within ResHacker, choose Action -> Replace icon, choose the icon you want to change (the first one listed in this case), click Open File with New Icon, browse to the icon you want to appear, hit replace, File -> Save, then exit. I hope someone will benefit. I just dealt with a problem on my system where a program had changed my icon size from 128 to 130. I didn't do this conciously so I was scratching my head as to why my icons suddenly had a few slight jaggies. This problem is caused by the quick launch bar specifying an icon size that is not in the icon file for that program. This problem could be solved two ways - 1. fire up the skin editor and change the size of the bar and then resave the skin or 2. Fire up Icon Developer and edit the icon file for each icon show in your quick launch bar. Add a few new sizes (first make sure the file has a 16x16 icon as that is the size the quick launch bar uses) possibly try 17x17, 18x18, 19x19, or 20x20. Judging

In case you never solved this problem, it is because the start menu portion you have jagged icons in actually uses a smaller size than the default icon size. If you set your registry to use 96px icons, then these icons in the start menu will actually be 72px so you would need to make sure that there are 72px icons in the icon files you use. Problem solved! Turns out my icon size was mysteriously changed from 128 to 130 in the registry. A helpful user suggested the jaggies occur from icons of an unusual size and that got me to check the registry. Thank you.
My color depth is set to 32 but lo and behold Windows mysteriously changed my icon size from 128 to 130?!? I checked the setting in the registry, switched it back to 128 and bam! Thank you for causing me to double check. I have no idea how that happened, but the problem is gone now.
