I have same problem. Bought GC 2 Gold Edition. Put in serial number exactly as shown on CD jewel case, (30 characters and 5 dashes). It doesn't work. Why can't they just let you buy a CD, load it on your computer, and run it like normal games? All these serial numbers, passwords, email, codes, etc. Its all such a pain in the ass.
I turned off my hardware sound acceleration level and it fixed it for me. (not sure what sound acceleration really does anyway). p.s. I got did it from running DXDIAG, which lets you mess around with direct x settings. ~SDC~

Bump C'mon. There must be someone out there who's had this same problem. I've checked for all the latest drivers, etc. This is ruining the game for me. Any help? Anyone? ~SDC~
The sound and music is coming in all garbled. It worked before, now its not. Any way to fix this? ~SDC~
