Forum Bug Thread

Please use this post for reporting forum bugs.

While we would like to hope that the code we write is solid as a rock and has zero flaws, we know that just isnt the case 100% of the time. While the forums continue to grow and we continue to add features and expand upon existing features, a bug here or there might pop up. Please use this post for reporting problems you are facing, or issues you notice with our new forums.

Rest assured, a Stardock rep will be monitoring this post and helping out as much as possible. With your help, we can make sure that the forums continue to run smoothly and without issue.

Regarding the deletion of all comment content during editing, on my end, I can replicate it in this manner.
From the "Add A Reply:" section at a bottom of a thread, I click Advanced Mode. I then entered some text in the edit box. Then I clicked the View Source button four times in succession, and the test text disappeared.
This is limited to Firefox, a similar test using Internet Explorer 6 did not lose the content of the edit box.

Now, how often will that happen, someone repeatedly clicking View Source in Firefox? Probably not often, but who knows what bit of info will be helpful to y'all! And it certainly could be a problem on my end, a Firefox extension or something..out of my league to speculate.

The following link will have been entered in this manner. I am in basic edit mode, typing this at the bottom of the thread, not on a separate Edit Page. I will click the Insert Web Link button, and paste in a URL. I do not know if this will replicate the mangling I experienced earlier or not. Link follows:
WWW Link

This reply was typed in the edit box at the bottom of this page, and I will not attempt to re-edit it. https://forums.wincustomize.com/?aid=125136#1024885

Well, that seems to have worked just fine. One more experiment, and I will stop bothering you. This is the same URL that I typed in another thread, and it displayed oddly.WWW Link

EDIT:  sorry to have wasted your time.  I guess I can't replicate it either.  Although I know it has happened to me more than once.

None the less, its still good to report when anomolies occurr. I'll have a look at the editor in firefox and see if I can get it to act up like you had. There may be something I can do about that at least.

I'm not sure what's going on, but I can't seem to edit my posts anymore. I thought I had read somewhere that you can't edit your posts if someone posts after you (is that still how it works?), but it's not the case here. When I click on the edit link it bring me to a page saying access is denied and tells me to create an account (but I obviously already have one and am logged in if I was able to post in the first place). Using Firefox 1.5.0.7.

Edit link for a sample post: Link
Access denied page: Link

Edit: just noticed something, it only gives that error for threads from the WC News forum. o_O

Andrew,

I know your busy with WC2k7, but recently everytime I attempt to change the size of my comments in WC forums, the bbcode "]" bracket gets changed to a >. I end up having to edit my post to correct this.

Here's an example: size="2"] <----- that will change to this ">" after I select post comment.

In addition to the size issue, I having been having of on issues with being able to edit some of my posts...which I only do when the bbcode error occurs. I'm redircted to a page stating "Access Denied you may register/create an account here if you like"...somewheres along those lines.

I should stat that I attempt to change the font as well as size. These two sentences will be a test that hopefully will error, so you may see what I mean.[/size]

I have similar issues with posting from either IE7 (final) or FF (1507) using the quick-post at the bottom. I have just updated to FF 2, so will try again.

Also...in FF (1507 and 2.0) the text in the right column of the thread listing is overwriting itself and hard to read. Here is a screenshot of what I see...

Almost every other thread I've clicked on today has opened some off the wall thread that's a year or more old. I've seen this before, but no where near as often....

We've been attempting to track the issue for some time. We're stretched a bit thin at the moment and working on some of the other major sites, but are scheduled to do some maint. on the forums soon.

I came across a new one this morning while try to post to the December Screenshots Thread
Without the "full" image there's no way to complete the picture insert. Using Firefox 2 (Using IE7 to post this)

I get that one all the time in FF2. Tabbing between fields will illuminate the other fields and buttons.

I'm afraid that this isnt a bug. It's the new bbcode trying to play nice with the old system of how replies were (and still are) inserted into the database. In order to make the bbcode revert back from html to bbcode when you edit a reply or post, i'll have to write some regular expressions to handle it. And it's probably going to be after the new year before I can get to that.

BebiBulma (what the heck does that nick mean anyhow) - That's a directive from on high. Users arent allowed to edit their posts in the News category, unfortunately.

Lantec - Well, that's the testforums for the new wincustomize there. There's a post under Developer Journals where T-Man talks about the new site and people list some bugs. Might want to post that there instead. It's a layout issue, and we know what it is, but Dark-Star can't get to it at the moment. I would reccomend using forums.wincustomize.com for the time being. We'll have that fixed before the new wincustomize (and its forums) go live.

It's a Dragonball thing.

I figured that out after I posted it, we can't edit news post comments through the forums but we can through the Articles section (last I remember).

Ah, never could get into anime in any form.

I'll pose the question to the people who make the big calls and see if we cant find a common ground between the forums and the articles.

One thing to note about editing your replies(which function the same way on WC2K7). You're only allowed to edit a reply you have posted if and only if:

  • You are a moderator with that abilty
  • You are an access level higher than a moderator
  • You are attempting to edit the last reply in a post, and you made that reply

What this means, is that if you have the second to last reply in a post, you're not supposed to be able to edit it. (This isnt something I came up with btw ) Now, this doesnt work entirely correct in the forums here as I've come to find out. I'm working on a major upgrade to the forums' codebase this week and will have it up sometime next week. I'm hoping that people find it faster, some things fixed up and some added consistancy between the forums and our other sites they support.

Just wanted to let people know that I have published a very updated build of the forums. It's now running off the same core components as the Wincustomize 2007 project and should prove faster and more reliable. I've also fixed up a few issues that people were having, namely with regard to editing replies. Unforatunately this update does not include a fix for the bbcode. I'm still working on getting the regular expressions, which handle the bbcode, as efficient and accurate as possible.

Not sure if Forum bugs go into the new site post so I'll try here.

The post icons no longer seem to be working for me. Posts which have been updated show as read. Posts which are read show as read and threads I've never looked at show it. I no longer see the icon with the blue marker showing a post that has been read has been updated. I've been using the test forums since they were made available and this only started in the last few days.
Firefox 2.0.0.1

I hope that explanation wasn't too confusing..........

Fuzzy, actually he replied in the correct post. The forums and the main website are still two seperate entities.

Lantec, Theyre still working for every test account that I have available to me. I would check your Firefox cache. With every new release it seems to get worse and worse about hanging onto cached pages, scripts and graphics when it shouldnt. So try clearing your Temp files for firefox. Also be aware that certain things are cached throughout our websites and dont always update instantaneously (we're working to improve that all the time). I would give this about a week, after that, if it's still acting up let me know (here in this post), and I'll probably contact you for your login information so I can try to reproduce the problem.

Now you are confusing me... (easily done)

I applogize if this has been mentioned already.

I've attempted to watch several posts on the forums. After I click "Tools > Watch this post" I am taken to the "My Watchlist" page only the post isn't listed there. I've tried to refresh, logout/login, but the posts I want to watch just won't show.

I have attempted this using the WCB, IE7, and FF.

Very odd. I've confirmed that, and also that the remove function no longer works on the watchlist. I will be investigating this later on this week.

When I click to remove one watch list post - after hitting send - they all disappeared.
No biggy I didn't need them anymore but I only checked off one.
