Forum Bug Thread

Please use this post for reporting forum bugs.

While we would like to hope that the code we write is solid as a rock and has zero flaws, we know that just isnt the case 100% of the time. While the forums continue to grow and we continue to add features and expand upon existing features, a bug here or there might pop up. Please use this post for reporting problems you are facing, or issues you notice with our new forums.

Rest assured, a Stardock rep will be monitoring this post and helping out as much as possible. With your help, we can make sure that the forums continue to run smoothly and without issue.

There is no 'Send' button on the watchlist page. Could you mean the 'Remove' button? (Accuracy is key, yo)

If thats the case, then I cannot reproduce the issue. According to the database, none of the articles you are watching have 'dissappeared'. Wait a few minutes and refresh. It's probably just a database read error. I'll add to my list to create some messages which will be displayed in the event of different errors when displaying posts on the watchlist page.

To comment further on my previous statement that the watchlist was not removing posts/articles. That is somewhat true, somewhat false. It appears as if the cached list is not being released when an item is removed.

Yes, the ' remove ' ( you can't access the watchlist from forum so I couldn't remember if it was send/remove )

I had 3 ' skins ' on watch list skin tab- I checked off one - hit remove and they all were removed. I just checked and they are still gone.
Articles are all still there.

Ok, that information was key. Since this is the forum bug thread I had assumed that you were talking about the forum watchlist. The Report New WinCustomize Bugs and Other Issues post would have been a much better (and proper) place to report that problem.

I'll follow up on this issue with you on the Report New WinCustomize Bugs and Other Issues post.

I've verified the problem with the forum watchlist (which also affects the www.wincustomize.com watchlist, consequently) with removing and adding articles. I have a fix for this in place and should take affect tomorow morning EST when we update the websites.

It's Thursday night and each time I try to use the "quote" in the upper right corner of a thread I get nothing. :]

Quote working ok for me using FF 2.0.0.1

Yeah, every time we update the javascript on the websites Firefox seems to throw a fit. If you find part of the site suddently not working as it used to, then clear the cache (or alternatively, Ctl+F5 refresh first) and refresh the page. That usually kicks it in the butt. I hope this is something that they resolve in the next update, as I've reported it once a week for the last month

On a side note, I'm going to start using the Developer Journals forum on forums.wincustomize.com to occasionally list what has been resolved, updated or added to the forums. It's going to be a locked post and for information only. Since the forums has a version number at the bottom (did you know that was there?) I'll be tagging posts with the current version number so those of you interested can keep track.

Oh, forgot to mention... I have the emailing users function disabled at the moment. I wanted to get a new build up and that page is in the midst of an upgrade.

Email user function should be back online.

If I try to use autoscroll by middle clicking inside the thread area I only get side to side indicators which allow me to "wiggle" the posts by about 3 pixels. Clicking outside the thread area on the page background to the right autoscroll functions fine.

I'm sorry but that's browser specific behavior, nothing we can control from our end

When I look in my activities at recent comments - this forum post is marked with an icon that says " Sticky post " I dont remember seeing that before , is that new ? Did i click on something to put it there that I'm unaware of ?

I have always and still can autoscroll inside a thread regardless of browser or version. The settings are for your specific mouse.
Check Control Panel ...Mouse and Wheel tab.

Some mice have their own software that you install on a cd, if thats the case you may need to check that.

It's My Secret

I know how to set the autoscroll. This problem is specific to the wincustomize forums. It works correctly in the stardock forums, the totalgaming forums, the joeuser forums, etc, etc, etc...
The only place I have this problem is forums.wincustomize.com
Like I said if I move the cursor off the thread onto the page bg and middle click it functions correctly. It is only in the wincustomize forum thread background area that it doesn't work.

Also, mouse gestures do not work inside the thread area, but function correctly if I move off the thread area and perform them on the page bg. They use the right button btw, not the wheel button.

correction: only the mouse gestures that involve scrolling do not function in the thread area. "Scroll to Top" "Scroll to Bottom" Other gestures still work.

I keep asking about this, but no-one is answering. Somtimes when you click on 'View all recent posts' you only get the last ten showing. Next page takes you to the next page, so the posts between ten and 'next page' are missing:-

It would be nice to know if someone is looking into this.

I still get that too Fuzzy, it is annoying going to the next page and losing ~4 hours worth of new posts.

I've noticed this happens normally after I "backup" out of the previous thread instead of clicking the "Home" or "View all recent" links and then choose recent form the "home" page. Seems like it only shows the "cached list" from the earlier page visit.

When using the WinCustomize Browser I saw that the last post information was borked. It only happened on page six of seven, if that helps any. I'm linking to the actual SS of the browser. WCB version 2.00c[b].003

SS of borked info

Fuzzy, havent been able to reproduce that error. Seems like a database/data transmission issue. Sorry I dont have a better answer for you.

So... still no ideas about the scroll problem? Anyone?

The scrolling issue is a per-client issue. Each browser handles scrolling with our layout differently. We're not about to immediately change our layout so that scrolling with the mouse wheel is friendlier for each browser. I've tested on FF, IE6/7 and Opera and all you need do is click outside of the post area with your middle button (or position the cursor outside of the post area) to use the mouse wheel scroll effectively and consistantly on each browser. Take this to the bank as the final word on the matter

Hankers, thanks. I'm over at that post investigating now
