DEMIGOD: GAME of the YEAR or Spectacular Disaster?

DEMIGOD: GAME of the YEAR or Spectacular Disaster?

When Demigod is working it's the best damn RTS type game I've ever played. It's amazingly fun. Having played Dawn of War 2, going and playing a good game of Demigod multiplayer is an absolute blast!

BUT...

The actual online experience is absolute garbage right now. WHEN I can get into a game, which is hit or miss, the odds of me being able to actually complete a game is maybe 1 in 10 because somebody gets bumped off. I just don't buy that people are losing internet connections this common. I don't get that in my other games. AND....even if somebody is disconnecting I end up with the f*cking eject dialog where I am given almost not clue as to what I'm supposed to do and have to eject everybody in order to get the game going.

The in game connection unreliability is much worse for me than the getting games set up problem. It may sometimes be a pain to get a game going but I never have any real problems getting a game going. Completing the game is the problem.

If Gas Powered Games can't get their in game net code to work, this game will be a dismal failure and deservedly. If they can make it robust and reliable then I predict Demigod will set the standard for online strategy gaming for years to come.

You have 24 hours to fix this edge-scrolling issue before I start ragin' in the offical Galciv forums.

Slurple: Please understand that in 24 hours the men will have already taken you away to a secure, undisclosed location.

There you will be held with the people who protest the difficulty in opening game boxes, the people who file lawsuits because EULAs aren't on the ouside of the box, and of course anyone else who considers a dead spot in edge scrolling on a game where almost no one uses edge scrolling to be the same thing as a game not functioning.

So you are not going to fix it? You're statement isn't clear. Just because I will be taken away and I am making what is in your opinion a frivolous complaint, does not imply you will not fix the edge-scroll. Even if I cannot enjoy the benefits of a "fixed" galciv2, I can at least rest in peace knowing the edge-scroll issue has been resolved.

I don't know if that's on the list. Until your post, I'd never heard of it.  In either case, you won't be able to play because you'll be in a secure fascility with no computer access.

hahahaha this is why I love Stardock, anyway I vote for the success of Demigod, it's a high quality production and great gameplay. Only thing is I never get enuogh of it and demand MORE!

DOTA has around 90 Heros or so with each at least 4 Abilitys making about 360 different skills. Dota had alot of Time to develop so i dont compare the Amount of Heros. But the total number of abilitys is a indicator for the amount of skill-synergies and therefore Taktiks. My expectation is at least a quarter of Dotas Skill array. So 90 or more different skills in total should be distributet on all the heros in Total.

DOTA has NOW 93 heroes, but they add 1 to 3 every pair of months. Early versions of the map like 5 years ago had half of that number or less. Now, let's do some math: you want 90 skills, you have 64 right now and 80 once the two new heroes are finished in a month or so. It's 10 less than expected but...you know, it's a good number in an early stages of a game.

I just expect some compromise from GPG/SD (I know they did) 'bout keeping this game up to date OR allowing easy modding for somebody else to keep improving the game.

And for the record, trying to compete with the "numbers" of Dota is idiotic. DG and Dota share many similarities and this is one of the reasons I enjoy DG. However I would like to see DG pave its own path and offer something that Dota does not. In my *HUMBLE* opinion the uniqueness of DG is the "war"-ike feeling it evokes mid-late game when matches can get really chaotic. However, this doesn't occur in every match. But it could...

I think we can also agree that in Galactic Civilizations is inferior to Master of Orion in the sense that Master of Orion has features that Galactic Civilizations does not.  That Galactic Civilizations has features Master of Orion does not is irrelevant.

By the same token, the concepts and features that Demigod has that DotA does not are also irrelevant. The only thing that matters are the things Dota has...

And Sins of a Solar Empire is an abject failure for the obvious reason that Homeworld has some features that Sins of a Solar Empire has.

That's why games like Galactic Civilizations and Sins of a Solar Empire were subject abject failures both critically and commercially (I mean, has anyone even heard of those games? I highly doubt it, they suck). That is why Demigod will go down that same path to utter failure.

Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

I guess I'm getting too old for that kind of adolescent humor, and for the recent, childish derailment of this thread.

I was saying despite missing features from Dota, DG does have something unique to offer, namely gameplay that feels more like a war mid-late game.

You may be agreeing with the form of my argument, but disagree with the substance? It is hard to tell. There is too much sarcasm in this thread, it is getting hard to understand the posts that are in reply to a reply of a reply.

What derailed MY thread were the usual cabal of PossiblyImpossible, Jinx, and Evanscent who insist on turning every thread into a Dota discussion.

People may like Dota but they hate the Dota community. Judging by their behavior, it's not hard to see why.

I also like Frogboy's posts, he puts the mirror up to the frothing ones and they don't like the reflection they see. I almost forgot how the Homeworld fanboys stalked the Sins forums at the end.

Quoted from Sayan.

Ok Dalzk, Demigod is the best game ever made, it will be so good all competing games will just stop releasing their up and coming titles and will bow down to the great GPG/Stardock for being the all conquering developer/publisher they are...

Now go away, under that little rock that you crawled out from and do w/e the hell you were doing there before, please.
