Glad you are enjoying it. You are playing SoA 2 just as SoA 2 was meant to be played. With Help. You need to make allies. Especially if you are an inexperienced player. Since the Borg are intentionally designed to be OP vs a single faction.
While it is possible to defeat the Borg solo. It is very difficult to do. Especially if the Borg are fully teched up. By design if you turtle, and let the Borg max out their research then it is game over for all of the factions. Maxed out Borg can steamroll everything. So it is kind of a race against the clock too. However, The Borg are the slowest researchers of all of the factions (by design as well). So you should have time to research upgrades, muster decent sized fleets, and make allies before the Borg go on a rampage.
I find the balancing very good. I have to admit I still did a little "cheat", as I found the AI performing pretty bad against the borg. I added "taunting" to the assimilation ability. So allied ships close to a borg ship trying to assimilate will focus fire on it. This way the AI is doing much better against the borg, when they bring enough ships (and it saves me some micro managing in battle).
Just thinking about it, the idea came to me when watching "First Contact", the borg where holding the Defiant and Picard ordered to "focus fire". It might be possible to give this ability a dependency to some high tech "Picard, learn how to fight borg" research. Including an "anti-borg" pact, that enables it for other races when they get allied with Federation.
Sorry, I know you are already busy
Edit: Sorry, I just remembered that I made another change which also influenced the balance. As my allied AIs where throwing so many ships against the borg for assimilation, I seldom saw any borg ships. So I had changed the borg assimilation to destroy the ships after some time and give them some resources for it. This of couse made the AI borg much more dangerous, coming with full "borg" fleets instead of many assimilated ships. I understand that this is a balancing feature and that you put a lot of efforts into it. So please ignore my suggestion.
Hello, I played the first version of this mods on the original Sins, and holy hell was it awesome. Thing is, I only have Rebellion now, without trinity
. Would anyone know if the Rebellion might be done in, say, 2-3 months? (Or faster, or longer
)
Probably. ![]()
Love this mod. Thanks for all of you hard work.
Will the Diplomacy release include a graphical update? Or will that only be with Rebellion?
Graphics update is built into the Rebellion engine.
Diplomacy though, has many model improvements (tangents and optimizing), lots of new unique buttons and way to many other changes to list. They are all being ported to Rebellion.
then sure the dip version will also be nice
Hey guys, whats goin on with the multiplayer? When we try to login, it says we have an old version of Sins and we are unable to join. This is happening for me and all my friends.
Sins updated all versions. Update the game and move the SOA dip version to Mods Diplomacy-v1.37 from Mods Diplomacy 1.34
Thanks Fist. We were afraid, cause we didnt see an update to SoA2, the mod might not work if we updated the game.
Tested, and All versions of SoA2 still work in the updated Trinity. So you should't have any problems. Just move the mod to the new mod folders, and activate.
Any ETA on the final Diplomacy release? Can't wait for this.
New website is up at a subdomain of the tutorials site soase.x90x.net which is
the other site needed constant reactivation due to a lack of visitors in a given time period.
We have decided to trim the OP from the 6 plus pages to a few trek style buttons that link to pages on the website. These will include the back story, about the mod, crew (mod team) and credits, galleries and videos. the main link is available in the 'External Link' at the top of the OP. Also, try the website in full screen F11 and other different sizes and keep an eye on the wallpaper background, I luvs it.
Any HQ wallpaper link suggestions are welcome.
I am now working on fixing all the bad links I have neglected for to long. The m0dDB page will also get some love soon.
The new Diplomacy is in its final stages, coming very soon. This is still a WIP though and I will continue to work on it when time permits.
Keep on Trekin'

I just started playing SOA2 yesterday (I actually got SoaSE just so I could play this mod) and my first game with the Federation went really well. So later, I decided to play as the Borg, however, I noticed that one of their science buildings requires 12 civilian slots (so if I place one of those, I pretty much can't build any other civilian structures on the planet) and I look at the tech tree, and the tech tree requires me to have like 8 of them in order to research some techs. Is this a bug or part of the mod? Am I supposed to play with the Borg differently or something?
The Borg are really not meant to be played. The slot and research requirements are there so you don't get stomped by Borg every single game. They are already uber and you should win easily without doing much research at all.
Ah, okay. Thanks.
fix dead links in OP graphic
waiting for psy to send me race info
Links fixed
more info pending ...
Next and Back links will be fixed soon as I figure out the order of a book style read.
Granted, I wasn't on the mod team when the Borg were added, but I wouldn't say they can't or shouldn't be played; you just have to remember that they are overpowered. I typically play with about 4 enemy AI players set on hard/insane, which ends up being pretty balanced provided you have an appropriately-sized map (i.e., a huge map benefits the Borg as it increases their time to research).
Alternatively, I also like playing 1-on-1 against the Borg. As noted by Stress, it becomes a race against the clock, which is a lot more fun, in my opinion, than just topping out the tree and spamming good units.
I second that. I love the Borg as a playable faction. Sure you have to adjust the balance accordingly, but the technology, structure, and units of the Borg are so unique it really gives the game great replayability and is a nice change compared to the other factions.
You are all...
TRAITORS

Good points, and the Borg are playable, just never found it worth it except to m0d them.
The balance, slots and research will stay as is though.
Fair enough. The implants tend to make me feel a bit grouchy.
Thanks to all of you who made this great mod. It is outstanding. As a matter of fact, I'm enjoying it too much as it is sucking away my time. Please keep up the great work on this, it is very much appreciated!
I would also say that I have found the gameplay to be quite good. It has improved some things I did not like in the original, such as over powered star bases. I also like how most ships have similar ranges (if not identical), but can be upgraded and there are special abilities.
I also like the transition in tech from the motion picture style ships up to the TNG movie ships. Putting in the refit constitution was brilliant (along with the sound effects from the original series)!
The Borg being a playable faction turned out to be a good idea after all. Originally we were gonna make them the pirate faction, but that didn't work out too well. All in all everything turned out very well so far. I wish i could contribute some more, and maybe i will. Got to get my house in order first.
BTW love that picard giving the universal "hand salute"... along with his infamous facepalms.
