The purpose of this thread is to contain discussions made by the decision making panel pertaining to the 2nd Demigod Community Tournament.  Per the rules and registration thread http://forums.impulsedriven.com/396231, here are some more details about the panel.

Decision Making Panel

This tournament will be governed by a decision making panel consisting of pacov, McShane, hedgie with jongalt as an alternate.  The panel's purpose is as follows:

  • Review any scheduling issues and making the final decisions with regards to disqualification. 
  • Reviewing replays as required (crashes and desyncs)
  • Resolving any disputes that arise

The panel's decision on all matters will be the final word for this tournament. And last, the members of the decision making panel will not make any decisions on the games they are playing in.  We didn't have a panel in place for the first tournament and that was a mistake.

So, if you have a game that requires reviewing, etc, please post here.

Current discussion:  What team combinations will be allowed in the final 4?  Discussion over.

quick summary

team 1 v team 4, team 2 v team 3

All games are best 2 out of 3 elimination. So, we only have a semi-finals and finals round now.

Whatever team is on light in game 1 will choose from the list of acceptable team combos.

Whatever team is on light in game 2 (teams will rotate sides) will choose a different option from the list of acceptable team combos.

If there is a game 3, the remaining dg combo must be used.

Here are the combos:

QoT, erebus, UB
Rook-Reg-Erebus
ub tb erebus

So, we'll just make this quite official, then - and I think its a simple compromise that should keep all parties quite happy.

Teams in the final 4 portion of our tournament will have the option of 1) sticking with the original character selection rules or 2) going with the mirror match selection.  Before teams start their games, they will briefly discuss the option they want to go with.  If the teams do not agree, then they will stick the original demigod selection rules as listed in the rules and registration thread; however, once the teams have agreed on the character selection rules, they will stick with those rules for that match (eg either you stick with the old rules for the best 2 out of 3 or you stick with the mirror match rules for the best 2 out of 3).  These rules apply for both the semi-finals and the finals. 

That should hopefully take care of it. 

The semi finals MUST be completed by Tuesday at midnight (or at least be in progress at that point).  If you make it to the finals, you will be expected to play in the finals no later than Thursday at midnight.  If the games have not taken place by that point, disqualifications will occur.  Disqualifications will be determined based on teams making a logical effort to get their games in.  Hoping you get your game in and not being willing to schedule will result in a disqualification if you do not meet those deadlines.  The easiest way to avoid that is to simply speak with your team and make a post in the scheduling thread based on your availability.  I'd hope to see a little more effort than "we hope everyone is on when we are" because if that is all the effort that is put into it, you will likely be disqualified.  Avoid that by making an effort.

yeah - install uberfix 1.03 mcshane - we will be using it in the finals.  Its quite stable - the only diff you will notice is that you can't see your opponents gold.  It does a few more things than that, but nothing over the top and no balance changes.

alright panel - let's discuss this... what are we going to do about darks/jonas team?

Options are

  1. side with my ruling that the game was won by jona's team
  2. disagree with my ruling and say the game was too close and must be replayed

I think they only played 1 game last night and the deadline is now past - I know jona busted his ass to try to get a game going, but all they came up with was 1 temporarily contested game.  Is that adequate for placing in the number 4 slot?  Do we wait and let them finish their series off?  I believe they need to get a total of 3 games in, but I'm not 100% sure.  Do we care/not care, etc.

Lol wow what a slopfest that game was.  I believe Iz_ blew it when he died pointlessly at the enemy portal around 33 minutes but who knows with the way that was going.

Your analysis is wrong Pacov, Iz_ disconnects at 37:30 game time, before the double kill, before they have taken the portal everything.  Rawrr's like 2000 away from bulwark and you can see Iz_ starts selling his items for magnus rod and theugerists cap or whatever the hell it's called.  Dark's team is being pressed but it's definitely not conclusively over. 

I say we give them a conditional extension until midnight tonight.  If there's a disconnect again though and someone has to leave + it's not a clear finish, both are disqualified.  If they don't play at all today both are still disqualified and we proceed with the original final 3 plan because that game was a toss if you saw correctly when Iz_ disconnects.

I am not in panel but i can't play the tourney games until the weekend, so i feel like they should have the time until the weekend anyways. Meanwhile I am off on 18th of December, so would be great to do some tourney matches this weekend or during the week.

I've watched the replay now and it definitely ends quite a bit after Iz_ dropped, and he did BEFORE we got the portal and the double kill. How can you tell he dropped exactly at 37:30 McShane? I can't remember well but yeah it was definitely around that time, the UB starts acting like a the dumb AI it is by then.

 

IMHO the game looked better for "us" than them when Iz_ dropped, but it wasn't over by any means. If i had a vote in the decision making panel (which i lost not sure how :grin: ), i'd say there's no reason not to give time until weekend for 3 games to be played between the 2 teams. But i'm just a Guest Star in rawrs-jona team, so i don't really care tbh |-) .

if the dc was at 37min, then I agree, the game is contested... I must not have seen him drop then.  I figured they all conceeded as soon as he dc'd and I didn't catch the player has left the game message.

So, based on McShane's vote and mine, this match is getting thrown out as at the time of the dc, the winner was not guaranteed.  Thanks for reviewing the replay as well, nom/mcshane.

I think we should give them until Friday night to get their 3 games in. I really want to make it as clear as possible that you guys should make EVERY effort to get in at least 1 more of your games tonight. Treat this as something that you need to do asap and don't just waste tonight and hope you get your games in on Friday.  I don't have any problem disqualifying anyone to make progress on this so we can wrap up the tourney.  Then we can start the finals on Saturday and wrap those up either this weekend or next week. 

edit - and further clarification - should we just make the jona/dark match the best 2 out of 3?  Technically, if they play 3 games and dark's team wins only 1 game and jona's team wins 2, the will both have 2 wins to their credit and be tied for 4th place.  I vote we just make it best 2 out of 3 to simply and not drag this out any further.  Need someone else on the panel to weigh in.

Well another thing to consider is where the hell is zen_gods team? Maybe we need both of these guys for 3rd place also if zen doesn't show up this weekend.  December 18th is next Saturday when Orcun leaves, Monday and Friday next week I have exams so we have a short window.  Whether it's final 4 or 3 you have to play zen_gods team before us because you haven't played them yet.  So as long as they play before you play zen than it doesn't change much.

I don't ****ing know at this point, just play the damn games lol.  We already had 3 votes saying they were disqualified if their series wasn't done by last night.  One convincing win is all I would need to see.  What's the set in stone date for you to play zen_gods team is the more pressing issue?

just as pressing as who you'll be playing in the 4th place, if there is such a place, right? And perhaps more pressing that we establish the rules, especially for darks/jona's game, which will take place before me n zen.  I'll throw up a comment over in the scheduling thread, though. 

Try to stay focused and make a quick vote - anyone on the panel would be fine if you are feeling particularly indecisive: 

Dark/Jona games:

  1. Games must be completed by Friday (12/10/2010)
  2. Game will be the best 2 out of 3 using tourney rules
  3. If the 2 out of 3 games are not completed by Friday, both teams are dq'd and we will just do a 3 team tourney.

And again, the reason for best 2 out of 3 is that they could technically tie for round robin if they play a total of 3 games due to dark's team already having a win... and I'd rather not have some additional crap we need to muck around with instead of getting on with this. 

Does anyone on the panel second this?

Well, either way on Friday it will be clear that if it is going to be 3 team finals or 4. Meanwhile let's decide how we are gonna do the finals regarding DG picks(i am referring to my proposal in rules thread). On top of it I am available all day this Sunday. If the rest of final 3 or 4 can have the time this Sunday, let's just play all our 6 matches on Sunday and wrap the tourney?

Im willing to play more games,  but I watched the replay.  Iz desyncs after we were chasing them to their portal,  we got a tower down,  reg got artifact shop and we still had hp flag.  This all would of happened anyway because iz had to go to crystal no matter what.  Rawwr was like 400g away from a bulwark after selling the replacement item at that pt,  iz's build wouldnt of stood a chance after that because he had so many expensive items his entire team was way off any artifacts.  We had HP flag and would of pushed straight  into the portal.  

 

Id like to play more games but i still think this one should be counted as a win,  we were 6mins away from a win b4 the desync.

honestly... I'm super busy this weekend anyway.  There's no way I'd be able to play sat or sunday, and then it's finals week (I have about  600 pages of reading to do by mid week.. and 10 pages to write).  Then Orcun leaves.

So.. if Jona wants to finish with Nom / KAlel go for it.. I can't be there tho.

Well i really don't want to do the sedna, ub, occ combo 6 more times in the finals personally. And i have a feeling most of you don't feel like it either. I mean i had one of the best games against Pacowsoc in the second round but almost all important matches went  with those combos and it got boring. So since it doesn't seem like we are getting to finals very fast, i think it would be nice to decide on another way to held the finals. This might also maybe give a kick to the tourney. 

So here is some ideas on what we could do.

1-Each dg can be picked once for all the rounds. each team plays nine different dgs.

2-Three different dg set up, all mirror matches.Community can decide on what 3 mirrors that should be played. 

3-Two different dg mirror matches,one free for all.

4-One match current tourney rules, one match a mirror, one match FFA.

5-Eliminate dg method: Teams ban dgs for the opponent team. The number can be from 2-4. 

6-we could use another map for one of the matches.

So we could use one these ideas or combine them or you guys will have some ideas too, i am sure.

And a question from me guys: I don't have the DG cd with me,and i am gonna get a new computer in a few days. So is there a way to freely install DG and play with my account? Or do i have to re-buy it on impulse ?

Let's get with the talking about this.  Happy to hear from anyone in the final games for feedback, but the panel will have the final vote.

Other thing, I vote we dq both jona/dark teams if they don't have their 2 out of 3 games played by the end of the night.  Anyone second?
