The 2nd Demigod Community Tournament - Decision Making Panel Discussions

The purpose of this thread is to contain discussions made by the decision making panel pertaining to the 2nd Demigod Community Tournament.  Per the rules and registration thread http://forums.impulsedriven.com/396231, here are some more details about the panel.

Decision Making Panel

This tournament will be governed by a decision making panel consisting of pacov, McShane, hedgie with jongalt as an alternate.  The panel's purpose is as follows:

  • Review any scheduling issues and making the final decisions with regards to disqualification.
  • Reviewing replays as required (crashes and desyncs)
  • Resolving any disputes that arise

The panel's decision on all matters will be the final word for this tournament. And last, the members of the decision making panel will not make any decisions on the games they are playing in.  We didn't have a panel in place for the first tournament and that was a mistake.

So, if you have a game that requires reviewing, etc, please post here.

Current discussion:  What team combinations will be allowed in the final 4?  Discussion over.

quick summary

team 1 v team 4, team 2 v team 3

All games are best 2 out of 3 elimination. So, we only have a semi-finals and finals round now.

Whatever team is on light in game 1 will choose from the list of acceptable team combos.

Whatever team is on light in game 2 (teams will rotate sides) will choose a different option from the list of acceptable team combos.

If there is a game 3, the remaining dg combo must be used.

Here are the combos:

QoT, erebus, UB
Rook-Reg-Erebus
ub tb erebus

So, we'll just make this quite official, then - and I think its a simple compromise that should keep all parties quite happy.

Teams in the final 4 portion of our tournament will have the option of 1) sticking with the original character selection rules or 2) going with the mirror match selection.  Before teams start their games, they will briefly discuss the option they want to go with.  If the teams do not agree, then they will stick the original demigod selection rules as listed in the rules and registration thread; however, once the teams have agreed on the character selection rules, they will stick with those rules for that match (eg either you stick with the old rules for the best 2 out of 3 or you stick with the mirror match rules for the best 2 out of 3).  These rules apply for both the semi-finals and the finals.

That should hopefully take care of it.

The semi finals MUST be completed by Tuesday at midnight (or at least be in progress at that point).  If you make it to the finals, you will be expected to play in the finals no later than Thursday at midnight.  If the games have not taken place by that point, disqualifications will occur.  Disqualifications will be determined based on teams making a logical effort to get their games in.  Hoping you get your game in and not being willing to schedule will result in a disqualification if you do not meet those deadlines.  The easiest way to avoid that is to simply speak with your team and make a post in the scheduling thread based on your availability.  I'd hope to see a little more effort than "we hope everyone is on when we are" because if that is all the effort that is put into it, you will likely be disqualified.  Avoid that by making an effort.

edit - and just another reminder, all teams MUST use the latest version of uberfix 1.03 for the semi-finals and finals - linky:  http://uberfix.googlecode.com/files/Uberfix%201.03.exe

Each game will be a different mirror match, people got tired of seeing the same one every game.  The other option could have just been to say no Occ-Sed-UB but a different mirror match each game should be fun.

Pacov I don't think it's clear that people not involved in the tournament can vote on this.  Even Orcun thought it was up to the decision making panel.  Each team says who they would like to use and then we're taking the top 3 picks from community votes, might need a whole new post.  If no one votes then maybe we need to take turns picking the matchup and then a free for all.

The final decision is up to the panel, but I want to hear feedback from ANYONE involved (as again frankly, I'm likely up for however we'll switch things up).

How can it be up to the panel?  You're just going to say you want your teams picks and I'll want my teams picks.  That was the point of the nominations, so it could be voted on. Anyone votes and the top 3 character selections are what we play.

very much confused me

I don't think Pacov read reply 176 from cow, or he doesn't agree to it whatever.  Looks like Zen's not going to show up today with picks, so maybe we just use one from each team.

heh - and confusions reigns.  Note - pacov doesn't really care about the character selection bit.  Just trying to make some clear ground rules as the next thing to happen (based on jona's comments) will likely be jona saying he doesn't want to do mirror matches and then we slow down the process even more.

So, here's what I'll do to clarify (HOPEFULLY) - mcshane - you are on the decision making panel.  Do you second my vote for us doing mirror matches for the final 4 part of our tournament?  If so, then THAT is set in stone.

And your idea, mcshane, about using 1 combo from each team doesn't necessarily work - remember, this part of the tournament is elimination after the best 2 out of 3 games.  Whatever the 3rd combo is might not be used at all, so we'd still have to decide which combo would be played.

Yes I like mirror matches.

Yea so that takes us back to free for all then, probably best way to decide the third game.  Or we could do what we did in the round robin, and the team that won the fastest gets to pick the last one.

OK - so we are decided with regards to mirror matches.  All matches in the finals will be mirrors.

We just need to agree upon the 3 choices.

How about this - we decide upon exactly 3 combos.  The team on the light side for game 1 gets to pick which of the 3 combos will be used.  Then, in game 2, the team on light side (as they rotated sides), will get to pick which of the 2 remaining combos to use.  And if there is a 3rd game, the remaining combo is used.

What do you think?  If you agree, then we just need to finalize the available combos and we are set.

So then we should have had a vote.  There's no reasonable way for you and I to pick 3 that will make everyone happy, unless we just go with one from each team.  If there's a third game in any of the series it will just be decided by a different teams preferred combo since the teams will take turns picking the one they nominated.

OK then.  One combo from each team.  First 3 teams to get their vote in win.

McShane - what 1 combo would your team like to be included in the finals?

cow is going to pick one asap and add that to the list:

QoT, erebus, UB please!

was tough to pick because I really want to play reg, sed, ub but I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to play qot -____-

ok - first 1 to respond with an actual choice from jonas or zens team will have their dg selection used.  If we don't hear from any of them in the next 3 hours or so, then mcshane and I will just pick 1 from the list jona submitted.

FYI - I won't be available to play tonight, but could make it tomorrow.

ub tb erebus

ok - we have our 3 combos then.

Will make an update to the rules and registration list asap

edit - please note, time is short for the finals/semi-finals.  As such, teams that have been... difficult to get together to schedule their matches will be dq'd by wed night.  The final game will likely be played on Thursday night, if not sooner.

I really don't think my team and mcshane's will have any problem getting our games in... even if we waited until thursday, though. But whatever gets us moving is cool with me. So, we agree that we drop zen_god's team if they have not played by tuesday night? Correct?

Correct

It's Tuesday night, not Wednesday.

* QoT, erebus, UB
* Rook-TB-Oak
* ub tb erebus

Change ours to Rook-Reg-Erebus please, still beat Jona so we're good and we need a Reg in there somewhere.

Rook-Reg-Erebus

ok

You didnt pick anything from our list...  none of us are super good with erebus this selection is totally favored toward renz............... .  I think we should go back to the original DG selection process  or  do the play all 9 different dgs.  Total bullshit that because I have something to do on a SATURDAY that we get no say in the dg selection when we are the freaking underdogs!

Nom's always here he could have posted. No other way to do it with 4 teams, and tbh if we stick with the original rules that's more favored to Renz than this is.  We were originally going to pick them without Zen's team having any say, not our fault he showed up out of nowhere.

Having only three options with the same demigod that hasn't been used in the tournament at all is not fair, especially without oak or occulus in the mix.  There should be more than three options.   We would never pick any of the dg selections you are forcing on us. Totally changing the rules in one day to favor the top 3 teams is a mockery of a tournament.

We want  Occ TB Rook added to the combos.

And we arent playing for third?

I don't have a problem with adding a 4th option to the available combos.  Then, if there is a game 3, the team with the fastest win will get to pick the final team combo out of the 2 remaining.  No sweat to me... just want to get this nonsense moving along.

I dont see why we are limiting the DGs choices,  my team has had no problem playing different DGs combo in almost every game.  Changing all the rules in one day in just nonsense.  You guys are just changing for change not for the better =/.  You had a long fruitless discussion and just decided on something random.  You should just keep it the way it is.
