goldmull, you are playing a multiplayer game. It has other people in it who may value their time, so you can't force them to fight valiantly to the bitter end if they see no point, and their teammates can always fight on if they want to --> their choice.
gaping_maw
so what, if they leave, you've won.. what's the problem?
Karma needs to be out of the hands of the moronic masses (i.e. us players :) ).. otherwise it will get abused. If you tie it to staying till the end, for goodness sake give us the concede defeat option so that we don't have to read a book while waiting for the other side to finish us off.
It's a competitive style of game. There will always be a way to grief others if you make arbitrary rules about quitting.... whether the winners dragging it out for achievement/favour garbage, or losers dropping on their team mates just after some time limit expires.. Just count the quit as a loss, as it rightly is. No need for anything extra. Warcraft3 has this right (which is why arranged team matches are very popular and random team is exactly what it says :) )
If your team is losing, why not allow people to quit so it's not dragged out? Counts as a loss sure, but no reason to continue a game once the outcome is obvious.
You need a big moderation stick to weed out the morons I'm afraid. It's the only way it works IF the game is popular.
Nice guides, thanks!
Why argue about it (piracy and it's rationalisation)? :) If you are serious about making money from software, you need to make it so that people can't pirate it (which is likely to be impossible) or make it so that it is more convenient to buy it. As simple as that :) It's the responsibility of those creating things to safeguard their investment, not the general public to ensure they comply with the desires of those making products for consumption
Free weekends are a great way to get people in (ala steam games). Not sure if stardock's impulse system will allow you to do that, but you could make regular free days for people to play. However, if you want something more permanent that allows demo players to interact with the greater population, go with a demo that has a TUTORIAL (for the love of god, get a tute in there), but has a time limit on play after installation.
well, you don't know that. Other games could have sold buckets digitally for all you know :)
Sedna is a bit to tree-huggy fluffy-bunny for me. No fun :D Have to go with Oak I think, you'd get buffed by him every minute or two! O_o I'd be a bit nervous worshiping any of the evil guys.. they don't seem like the stable, happy types Rook would mean well, but I'd worry about him accidentally stepping on his followers while heading to the loo in the middle of the night. Erebus is batting for the wrong side.
I use 'cursorlock' to keep the mouse on the demigod screen. Great little program. I do wish the game would let me use the 2nd screen for the 'mega'map (wouldn't be mini if it took up the whole screen :D) . I loved the Supcom implementation.
I use cursor lock, and it allows you to set up a shortcut to play the game .. once setup you just use the shortcut like normal and don't have to do anything special. Very nifty.
just joined the steam group. Good idea :)
aren't ladder games in war3 hosted by blizzard though? Not stating as a fact, just curious as that's how I thought it happened.
replays would help with this kind of thread :)
Quoting rockerest, reply 24 Is a demo SHORTLY forthcoming? Can anyone point me to an HTTP served pirate version? I would just like to try this game before I buy it. HAHAHA OMFG what a retard. Serious, you come on the game developers website, asking for a link to a pirated version of THERE GAME? Holy shit. You have balls man.
What you seem to fail to understand is th
for others having trouble launching the game, there is also a known conflict with google desktop AND the stardock guys have released a exe that works around it for many (but not all) people. http://forums.demigodthegame.com/346146/page/3/#replies
if you don't have a demo prior to release, people will pirate it to try it out (and steal it too of course, in many cases). No amount of moral high ground 'waggling of fingers' and tut-tutting will change that. Some people simply will not buy without trying.. who can blame them? Just make sure the product you buy is better than the pirate version, and you'll convert some of them. That's the best you can hope for.
exe works here, and (for the benefits of those with cursor lock issues) you can still get the cursor to lock in cursor lock 2.5 by choosing the stub exe as the first file but then choosing demigod.exe as the exe to lock the cursor to! :)
what other programs would have similar behaviour to google desktop? No idea why it would interfere with demigod, but it does.. anyone out there got any clue about this?
one good thing about getting more legit players onto gameranger, is that eventually the pirates will wonder what all these higher version games have that they don't. ... might even help convert a few from the dark side.
OK, I've found a solution for those whose cursor moves to another screen. Grab cursor lock 2.5 http://download.cnet.com/Cursor-Lock/3000-2072_4-10767852.html And you can create a shortcut for demigod that has the cursor locked to the screen. Yey! Means I can keep my second monitor on when playing the game.
We can't have those Euro types winning games now can we :D
I don't have google desktop installed... but I once did. Let me try and make sure it properly uninstalled itself. edit: it was still there! bleh. Uninstalled it and demigod starts just fine now. Nice detective work :) Hopefully the Devs can fix the Google Desktop conflict because it is a handy program to have.
