If you would read the developer journals, you would find out that it has been admitted that this has been a mess. They are scrambling to fix things as quickly as they can. Yes they care about it. It's not easy to read somebody you don't know over the internet, but I would wager that Frogboy is maybe even a little embarassed by how things have been working out. They dont post all that often. That's all. I did a quick look for an example, but the only GPG post I ran into was one by a guy who didnt have the banner. His avatar was the GPG logo though. I know I've seen a fancy little banner around here somewhere though.

I wouldn't spend my time worrying about what counts as what now... the stats are complete trash. They will be dumped as soon as they figure out how to fix them.

Probability is such an interesting school of math. If something only has one opportunity to happen... the fact that it's only a 5% chance to happen don't really matter in real life. What matters is if it happened or didnt happen. There are only two choices. Sure the 5% gives us a realistic idea of how to _predict_ what might happen over the course of a given series. But man. Life is deep. o_0

According to the game manual, you get a XP boost for holding portal flags. I assume this was set in place to make up for the fact that you are in effect generating XP for the other team. Who knows if it actually works like that or not... I don't exactly trust what tiny bit of documentation we do have.
