Demigod has been the best competetive online experience I've had since early Guild Wars, albeit more casual due to getting older and having other stuff to worry about. That said, I've not recommended it yet to anyone I've played other games with due to: - Bugs. - No easy way to go team vs team. (2) - Nonworking stats tracking and idiotic ranking calculations. (4) So for me, and I think if you wish to build up a large competetive crowd, those are the th
You haven't seen the code. Often times complex problems masquerade as trivial bugs/missing features. It's best to just let GPG fix the problems. I'd hate it if someone started spouting "solutions" for bugs in my game code when they haven't even seen the source code.
That's what I was saying as well, in reply #16. My last posts are just enumerating some scenarios where the cod

Then you probably shouldn't use it.
Eh, was talking of their accuracy (both are listed as being in seconds). os.time() is the current time. os.clock() is processor time spent.

Here's a few things I've concluded so far: - Your point 4 is correct. Example: Belier13/Apika have won 22 games together, their ranking gain ratio (326/228) almost exactly equals their favour gain ratio (3,835/3,220). So a total ranking gain is computed for the winning team, then split amongst the players based on their % of total favor. - Games with more players nets more total ranking points for the winners. Example: There were some people in top20 on d

I guess you shouldn't trust documentation for 5.1 and 5.0 (syntax in files suggest that's what GPG uses) from lua.org, which both states "os.clock () Returns an approximation of the amount of CPU time used by the program, in seconds." (same for os.time() )

You based a whole slew of conclusions based on one assumption that you didn't even bother to check. You can gain full access to the lua scripts from Demigod if you wish so. Hehe, if this is what you do, might as well do (os.clock()//8) + 1. There's no point in using random() calls if you reseed EVERY TIME. Reseeding all random clients at start of match with os.clock() (which has a 1 sec resolution in lua), it just plain dumb, and WILL lead to everyone getting the same demigod, assuming their clocks are somewhat synched. I suggest whoever gets the task of fixing this takes a good look at http://lua-users.org/wiki/MathLibraryTutoria

Sounds like a great update, and an excellent selection of items for 1.3 as well! I guess I'm sort of a different gamer though, from your list only 4, 5, 11 and 12 would rank anywhere near the top :) I'd almost say 12 is incompatible with 1,2,3 and 10... Those release cycles are way too short for quality balance testing. Something in between Guild Wars, with 2 stand-alone expansions including 1/3rd the content of the base game, both leading to mas

Once upon a time, there was a newly released game. The balance was great, the graphics were awesome, and all in all the developers agreed they'd done a splendid job. The players too, actually, until they tried playing online, and... nothing worked. The developers read and coded, looked over every log they could find, then realized one of the problems was there was large delays processing requests at the server. After much thinking, one of the developers cried o

Maybe I've misunderstood, but was it not mentioned in a previous update the Ladder ranking was supposed to reflect Skirmish and Pantheon games? Yesterday I had a single Pantheon game (recorded as win), and went from 2540 to 2533 Ladder experience. (plenty of Custom games in addition, both wins and losses) I also noticed a player advancing 4 spots on page one of Ladder ranking with nothing but Custom game wins over the weekend.
Yes, and despite everyone (except the ones only posting to brag they've won a 2v3 or 1v2) in this thread saying they think it's a bad thing, the official response is: "If you don't like Pantheon then, well, don't play it". I usually start off with something similar to the first build myself, then adjust as needed to enemy capabilities. A couple of things I usually do differently: - Skip spending skillpoint at lvl3. Opens up a 2-skill choice of IB/PM/FG at level 5, I normally find the extra runspeed early on more useful than speed reduction, and have a choice between PM/FG based on how the game has played. The "free" point at 9 I usually spend on Diseased Claws. Another neat trick at 5 ag

The issue mentioned above with one player showing up as connected in all other players connection info, but still lists as trying to connect to another player, is but one of the issues. It's easily recognizable though, and after the latest connection speedup happens in a matter of 5-10 seconds, so it's not that bad, it's easy to cancel and try again. The worst issue with Pantheon (now) is really the time spent/number of players dropping in the "Waiting for Players" screen... I
