Posted on the HoN forum by the S2 CEO Maliken:
... We will very carefully have to open this up. To answer other's questions: S2 currently has 210 game servers with 25 more EU boxes coming online this week. Each box holds 16 games with a max of 10 players. Right now we can support 37,600 players online. We hit over 30,000 on Sunday so we're getting close to our max.
Very open and very to the point. And the right infrastructu

Can I have your stuff.... oh, wait! :D
I just hope you at least read it if you care about Demigod as you claim to. P.S. I keep coming back to check for improvement in DG cause 1) I like the concept, gamplay and art, 2) I have friends I want to play with again. I'd love to discuss new Demigod things, but when when I see no changes, I post information on stuff that is done better in a very similar and competing product. Maybe it will help someone see how things can be done better, maybe not.
I really don't get why people feel the need to post about how HON or LOL is better than DG. Do you think by bashing the game and praising a dota knock off, (it even looks like dated graphics) on the forums for Demigod will gain you a magical solution to your problems?
One of the main reasons is that we hate being lied to. When the offical faces tell you that all the issues you're having are caused by your crappy connection/comput
No, what really shows the problems is that there are game bugs that have been reported more than 6 months ago, that require simple Lua changes, that have not been fixed yet. At the rate of 1 bug fixed/month I guess it'll take about 1+ year to fix the remaining well known bugs (2 months for the Fire TB move-attack cause it's more than just Lua fix), after which time we can start discussing balance. But really, there is no point in discussing these problems in this thread. U
it’s almost always some DSL user in Europe who gets 600kb/sec downloads but some tiny number uploaded.
This is the most retarded response I have ever seen. Sure I, as well as many others around here are on ADSL, which stands for Assymetric Digital Subscriber Line. This is the norm in these parts for an internet connection. Assymetric is because my DL is bigger than my UL (10Mbit/768Kbit). ADSL however are never below 256Kbit UL, and most of
About the slow support. Acctually things like this, takes time . It is not just something Stardocks says to protect the game. After you have made a fix you need to test the fix etc etc. IMO they have been rather quick. However it is still in my opinion that they should have fixed most of the problems before they released the game. That is where the problem lies I think. They should have had released a game that is as stable as it is to
HoN had 18.000+ people online last night and 300+ lobbies. Judging by people in games and in chat, 10-30% have already preordered, which makes the active paying population already bigger than Demigod (preorder has been active only around 10 days). Also don't forget that all those games run on their servers, which by the way enabled them to make maphacking impossible in a recent patch. This is a huge incentive for many people to buy. LoL unfortunately doesn't work pro
I stand corrected then - didn't expect them to make levelling possible just to enable DotA style maps. I guess it will play some role in the campaign. I apologize, this most definitely means there will be a DotA SC :D
Actually the real difference between DotA and DG in regards to pets is the last hit mechanics. While you have to deliver the last hit to a pet in DotA in order to receive gold, you would only need to tag the pets with 25% damage (a single AoE spell) in Demigod and receive all the gold for their kill. Aditionally, the pets in DotA come in much lower quantities and are a lot more powerful, so you don't have to micro 15+ units, but rather concentrate on few and thus can avoid feeding
Don't know why everyone is so confident about Starcraft 2 spawning a new dota. Starcraft doesn't really lend itself well to dota type based games (or moba as they call them now) - no heroes, no experience, no items. Tower defense, bunker defense...sure. DotA SC...don't think so. But most likely, someone will think of something new that will be the rage. ..or we're all just gonna stick to base gameplay :D
But there is no way that you can achieve 11K hp and still Crit someone wearing godplate, bulwark of the ages, crusader platemail and grofling plate for 2,5k hp. Not on UB, not on any other hero. Cmmon - lets be realistic = above char with all that def and 8K hp gets healed what - 800hp per second at fountain? You're telling me that a hero can stand there do 1500dps to 3 infinite mana heroes and still not die....BS
I wonder if the improvements of HoN over DotA are worth it in the minds of the beta testers. As far as I heard, the bulk of the improvements and changes are in the lobby - the matchmaking system. This sounds ... underwhelming.
HoN has one of the most advanced multiplayer systems I have ever seen. The thing is that they host ALL games on their servers and the clients gets data only on a need to know basis (not
AFAIK Practice == Learning, there is no difference.
I think only experienced warcraft 3-based DotA players can really get into it at this point.
And yet, last night there were almost 14.000 people online and 250+ open games. I think HoN is already one of the most massive online strategy games! I remember the days when competative meant good - all the best multiplayer games of age were very unfriendly to noobs. Quake, Unreal, Warcraft, Starcraft. They even had "glitches" that were intentionaly be
YMMV, but in around 35 HoN games I still haven't run into much shit by others. I've been into games where I was completely owning and in games where I was wandering how can I be so much worse than the others. Still people were decent enough for an online game. A lot less ragequits and bullshit in chat than Demigod. Mind you, Demigod is not much better than what some say about dota people - for example I was kicked out of a game in DG just because host "didn't like my
The number of online people is a bit misleading as out of 1823 people online at this moment, less than 200 are actually playing or setting up games. Usually it only takes few minutes to get a game going though.
Played HoN a lot this weekend - quite a change to have such a smooth gamplay experience after all the Demigod frustrations. And to think it's only in a beta. I did also check Savage 2 - another game by S2, makers of HoN. Must tell you those devs sure have some skill. While the art in Demigod is a notch higher, both Savage 2 and HoN are much better overall experience. The multiplayer features are so much richer, you can't even begin to compare.
"Lazy" pure firbuilds play with staff of renewal and fireball at 5s cooldown. You simply don't have time to change form late game if you don't want to gimp yourself.
Every one has it's advantages, disadvantages, and since the game is so incredibly balanced they are viable. It is how you make use of which ever play methodology you choose that is make or break. I enjoy not taking heal, as it is more fun for me.
You can also enjoy losing, but don't expect your teammates to like it. And you obvously have very little understanding of the Demigod mechanics - so please trust me when I say that Heal is one of the best abil
If you're gonna play with BoTF please do yourself and your team a huge favor and get priests right out of the gate. Send one of the priests to support your teammates in the lane you're not at. Also in any half decent game all players in a battle are gonna focus on one enemy. Don't save your heal for yourself if you're not the one being focused. Your chances will be much better if you do save your teammates. Sedna with heal and idol priests is the hardest Demigo
Heal isn't a come all save all ability, it has high cooldown, fairly high mana usage, and a cast timer which allows for easier interuption. Plus, if you are running and there is more than one guy on your tail, it is usually fatal to use as it just allows the other demigods to catch up and that 1500 health is out the window pretty fast.
Heal has 2hp:1mana ratio, it's extremely mana efficient. It has 0,5s cast time, it's really hard to interrupt. It
Epoch II was already supposed to deliver these rock solid stats, but it failed pretty badly. Without empiric data we're unable to get more insight and evaluate the ranking mechanics. I think that starting an Epoch III without informing the community of all changes, geting feedback and testing everything would be a bad move. We don't really know what they think they fixed exactly - maybe he was referring to games not being registered at all or the host drop bug.
Yeah how did I miss that one :)
