Battlefleet Gothic

Battlefleet Gothic

I don't know if any of you guys are a fan of the mini's genera. Did anyone here ever play games workshops short lived Battlefleet Gothic.

That game was pretty fun.

Some of the stuff I liked from there.

1. Massive torpedoes

Were talking about ship killers that you had to move the ship out of the way from and could use to move other guys ships out of areas that you wanted to go into.

2. Boarding action

You could fire "boarding torpedoes" and basically take over a ship or failing at that sabotage large sections of it.

3. Ramming / Fire Ships

Some ships could ram it was pretty sweet some could also function like a big torpedo.... that was awesome.

4. The ships had sections you could knock out an engine ... that was pretty cool.

5. Ships could really blow up

As in they would implode and take down anyone who happened to be near them that was pretty awesome.

6. Some ships as i recall could use gravitic and solar wind effects

Nah, the old screenies pretty much show everything we've got. If I'm wrong, please post screenshots to correct me. Admiral, once you get to see turrets in action, you'll see that they have markedly different rates of fire. Escorts only get to fire once every twenty seconds, so once they shoot one time, they're spent and are at the mercy of the bombers. Caps can fire as quickly as once every four seconds, so they have a much better chance of staving off some attacking fighters. Also, each shot is a guaranteed one hit kill if it hits (50% chance), so damage differences don't really mean much. It's just that caps get defenses that don't go down as long. Also, the planet killer's main gun isn't that rediculous for average damage compared to its lances, but keep in mind that I'm not just lifting cleansing brilliance's toolbar picture, but that that beam has the same ability as cleansing brilliance. That is you can strip the shields off as many cruisers as you can line up. This isn't devastating in single ship duels, but can be hideous in fleet battles (at least that's how my thinking goes). If you want it to have higher damage but a miss chance or the like, keep in mind that it's stuck using the CAPITALABILITY damage type, which means it shares that stuff with torps and the like once those are done, so that may be hard. Also, keep in mind it can chain that every 20 seconds for endless fun. Have you tried it in a fleet battle where all that armament can thrive?

No...just think it should be better one on one...but w/e, I'll build up a huge fleet eventually. (Also wanna note resources is still kind of an issue later game, market crashes all the time AND YOU NEED MONEH!!!) May i suggest lowering fleet cap costs and/or the percent it takes away from all ur incomes.

Okay, I'll try to figure out how to make money less of an issue. At least once we get research done, there'll be a place to sink your crystal.

...Damn, BTRL is awesome, that's completely eating my resolve to do anything other than plug toasters. I may become scarce again... :NOTSURE:

Hey! I like blue lances! It gives them a powerful look, for light that is blue is far better at cutting than light that is green. I hav'nt got the test version, but it sounds like capitol ships are too weak defenseively. It'll be so fun to bring the holy light of the emperor onto the heretical Covenant slugs and Jedi weaklings! Long live the Emperor! There should be a Middle Earth mod with cobbled together wooden ships. Orcs vs Orks! WAAAAAGH! Speaking of Orks, how do you go about calculating random damage for Gunz? Might just have to make em' BIG GUNZ!!! *Dun-Duun-Duuun*
Sorry about that. You should check out sins plus, though. It has some cool planets that could be used to better describe the Galaxy. This would be awesome in Seven Deadly, too. By the way, does your opponent have to have the same mod as you do for it to be usable in game online? I would think so. Do necrons second batch though, my friend plays those tabletop. Then we could all get this game and this mod, and BFG online! I suggest adding a structure to the Imperials in the second that has all space marine ships, and do the same with the Admech third round, or switch it around! I don't really care. They'll come faster because the economy will already be figured out for the most part. Anyway, I'll stop posting now so you can do more important things.

EDIT: What is BTRL?

BTRL is a Battlestar Galactica game. It stands for Beyond The Red Line, and it is a free standalone based on the Freespace 2 Engine, which happens to be open source. As such, it is a space combat sim, and is designed to make you feel like a Viper jockey. Basically, he will become scarce, whether he wants to or not.

And NO! GreenKey, this mod will not have Orcs, Covenant or anything else non-Warhammer 40K in it, due to Games Workshop's IP restrictions. Yes, I know, it's sad. I was hoping to show the Imperial Navy the might of my MAC cannons as I swam them with Marathons. Marathon = 1.5 km; BFG ships = 20 km capitals, 12k cruisers, 7k escorts. I think everyone wants to blow up these ships with something non-40K just to show the fanboys it can be done, but GW comes to their aid with IP restrictions.

Is BTRL joy-stick enabled? I have a fancy $50 joystick collecting dust in the corner ever since I lost my flight simulator X.... And I love BSG, I wonder why I have never heard of BTRL..... It is free, right?

oh god dont tell me about a new space sim i just pulled myself out of X3 if you show me a new one especialy one i'm slightley interested in the background of i'll well i'll dissapear for a rather long time...

anyway in other news i'm not gona be available till next week but then i will probbly sort us out a cap ship and an iconoclast and we might be able to get a public release out. (note this is not a certanty we may run into other problems like bildings... shouldent have said that...) after that as i am addicted to the imperium the navy will be the next done

also why does everyone think we are going to do marines and ad mech as the same race as the imperial navy. if we did that we would have one gargantuan race which wouldent fit on the build menues and would severley unbalance them

no once again for all those people who dont read the whole thread. We are making imperial navy marines and adeptus mechanicus seperate races

BTRL is Beyond the Red Line, a BSG flight sim. And boy is it good. We've got the rights from Danman to use anything we want from sins plus, but instead of adding the planets, I'm going to wait a while longer and custom make planets for the mod using all the planet models we have access to.

Yes, lowering the upkeep is probably a good idea. Keep in mind though, there will be research that increases your resource income, so it'll rebalance things a little and speed up building. But don't forget that BFG has never been about huge battles with 60+ ships, but about the tactics with a 3 or 4 cruiser and a dozen escorts. (and that's a pretty massive fleet on the table.)

That doesn't mean you can't build huge fleets. I've found you can quite adequately handle 50 ships in a battle and still maintain some sence of control of your army, instead of it turning into a massive mob. (courtesy of the dev.exe I have no idea how long it would take to build that)

In the "testing" bit of my post:
Bombers often seem to overshoot their target, not shooting on their first pass. Any idea as to what's causing this?

oh god dont tell me about a new space sim i just pulled myself out of X3 if you show me a new one especialy one i'm slightley interested in the background of i'll well i'll dissapear for a rather long time.

Oh, don't worry, it's only two levels in the release ;)

PS: BTRL rocks. Can't wait till they release more missions.

PPS: We still need someone with a little drawing/photoshop skill, to do the ship icons (the ones you see when zooming out) and construction buttons. Seeing how we're not allowed to "borrow" the images produced by GW, we need to recreate them, or something like them.

And also if there was a really pwnish artist out there, player portraits would be sweet!! :D (I can draw mediocre, but i wouldn't be able to do justice to player portraits lol...)

Holy shit dude, I just downloaded BTRL and played the mission...... Seriously.... Its THAT GOOD. It plays JUST like in the series, where the fighters can move in a straight line, flip around, while still moving in a striahgt line, shoot whoevers cahsing them, then flip back over and continue on their course. This is called 'gliding' and I use it ALL the time in the game, Ive binded the key to the 'up hat' on my joystick (The little thumbstick) I love this game! Its exactly like starlancer, only with kick ass grafix and the BSG story! (Who heres played SL btw, its a classic!)

Yeah, I involuntarily stayed up till 2 am, but I beat the demo three times in a row and I think I'm over it for now. I pwned scar the second time through, the key is to pop into glide and trash his nose before he can hurt you. And yes, it's great. I'm trying to decide between doing the planets and the IN. IN'll be easier, but planets will be more useful sooner. Decisions...

Also, I'm going to college in about two days, so I'm going to become scarce. It's not BTRL. Definitely not that.

I meant a whole new mod! Sorry for the misunderstanding. Thank you for clearing up that, because 40 pages is a lot to remember (:))! How'd that battle go, anyway chang?

The battle with my space marine fleet? Yeah, it was great, but unfortuantly the shop closed before we even finished....AGAIN. It progressed a little further than last time though. Both my escort squadrons in the end died, but one of them wasnt killed by my opponant- He galently rammed an enemy cruiser and caused a point of damage lol. I placed my battlebarge poorly, so it only managed to use its 45cm WB once or twice for the whole game. It was never within 30cm of an enemy, therefore unable to use its bombardment cannons. The strike cruisers did most of the work, but in the end, he managed to cripple one of them and slightly damage the rest, I managed to kill some of his escorts and cripple one of his cruisers. In the end, he had a higher VP count than me, but it was a fun game nun-the-less. Thanks to my constant barrage of Thunderhawks, He was NEVER on the offencive with his ordnance, always on the defencive. All in all he recied around 14 criticals, from BC and T/Hawks. Most of his ships couldnt turn, or fire some weapons. It was amusing watch his fleet reel from endless criticals lol.

And WRT BTRL, I downloaded the demo, and I only have the mission were you have to escort the mining ship..... I didnt get to face scar =( Where did you get yours?
You should download the additional mission packs. There's even a few campaigns in the works too.
wheredo i get these packs?
I don't know where to get those packs, I've just made a basic furball, and am playing that. Scar is the cylon at the end of the escort mission that's almost impossible to get a good deflection shot off on. The only way of fighting him I've found that lets me damage him with any frequency is to glide, keep my nose on him, and shoot him before he shoots me, in which case he'll peel off and I get to laugh at his wusshood. Fighting him is a race against ammo. I think I'll try to get some modding done in the next few days, but I'm going to college and make no promises.

MODDING QUESTION, PLEASE RESPOND: What do you think of the "turn length". Is it too short, too long or just right. Do you want guns to fire more quickly so you can micro better, because that's what I'm hearing at modcraft, and I want to see if you guys agree.
IMO I think the turn should be increased...... It should come under tactical consideration WHERE you place your ships, and where you place them to jump. This makes it all the more BFG.... If someone is fullhardy and jumps in on the same side as their opponants fleet, they willl have one hell of a brawl to contend with, but in the subsequent moments, will have to suffer a tedious, wide-arced, turn, while the enemy shoots them. Turning should become wider, to make for a better tactical situation.

On BTRL: The mission was actually pretty easy, I did it on hard and managed to kill 'Fractual 4' (Well, not kill, he jumps away) with minimal gliding. I foudn that everytime I started to glide (Believing it would hand me the firing advantage) it would actually make it easyer for him to get a shot at me (As im now moving in a straight line) So I steered away from gliding and did the old fashioned 'WWII Dogfighting" technique, where you just tail him in high-G turns and keep on his ass, as long as you do this, he will NEVER get a shot at you. Then its just a question of getting a lucky shot in (because if your both turning, bullets do not fly straight >=[ ) So you actually have to aim in front of him, and not where the redicule tells you to, aim even further than that, then hold the trigger down and let him fly into it. Do that about 10 times and he should be damaged enough to jump out. Great fun :D Cant wait for the full one to come out, so I can re-play all the episodes of Galactica. I hope they let you have 'combat-landings'......
Okay, that's one vote for longer turns.

I'm perplexed, I could never seem to turn inside fractal 4 enough to get a good deflection shot. I did damage him till he jumped one time with snapshots when he changed direction, but I found it easier gliding with a bit of lateral thrust. He'd have to turn into my gunsights, and I could usually peg him before he got his sights on me. Granted, I'm a piss poor deflection shot, but that seemed to work for me. Also, I tried Mk. 2 vipers in a custom battle and HATED them. Something about their guns made it almost impossible to hit with them.
MK 2 Vipers actually have weaker cannons and they are slower and they have shittier armour, but they can turn like a dream. I actualy perfer the MK 2, just because it looks better, and it has red stripes, which in my mind make it fly faster >=] Also, it provides you with a bit of a challenge as it is alot more flimsy. I used the MK 2 to take down Fractual 4, which is maybe why I could always keep him in my sights, and keep him turning.

Do you know how to get multiplayer working? Because if you do, I wouldnt mind testing my dog-fighting skills against you some time >=D So if your up for it.....

And yes, Slower, bigger turns is a must.... The fact that they can turn on the spot also needs to be fixed (If it can be).

Hello ^^

i have read the 37 pages and i would say it is a great mod that will be prepared, i have seen that you need texturer ? maybe i can try, i know 3D studio max and i prefer to model but i can make texture / icons / buttons ....

Technically a lot of escorts in BFG can turn on the spot (With their 90 degree turns...) Some of the escorts I've seen in the mod do these insane turns (not all the time but randomly sometimes :P) but the bigger ships should have a wider turn.
Yeah, I'll widen the turns. I'm pretty tempted to slow down gun reload and shield recharge to being based off a 30 second turn.
i think rolls would be a good idea, but you should maybe have techtree options, with different ships that fit the same role, and you can only make one of the researches, and make each ship slightly different, like more damage, or more shileds, or faster, so that it becomes a tactical choice based on what you want your fleet to do, or is that a bit to complicated
