Kzinti Empire - offical empire thread

You have dared to enter the lair of the most ferocious predators in the galaxy!

It is the ulitmate destiny of the Kzinti to conquer the other civilizations of the galaxy, subjugate and enslave any who may prove useful to us, and devour the rest. The Fanged God has ordained that this is how it will be.

In just 26 octals of days (7 months or so...Kzinti count in base 8), the Kzinti Empire rose from obscurity, to #1 on the Metaverse. With the blessings of the Fanged God, we have remained dominant for 100s more octals of days since that auspicious day.  We leapt past the other empires, and our mighty domain now encompasses over 32 million more light years than the second most powerful empire.  The most recent Galactic Map data shows that we have subjugated over 45% of the galaxy.  Many warriors from the old and dying empires have joined us, to avoid being eaten along with the rest.  We hunger to establish indefinite supremacy over all the inferior sentient species...

We have also been #1 on the AltMeta for over 3 years running. The Empire grows more powerful with each passing day as new conquests are won, and more warriors join us in our inevitable rise to rule the galaxy!

The Kzinti are a species of bipedal space-faring feline predators, who love nothing more than conquest and battle. Created by sci-fi writer Larry Niven, the Kzinti have had many stories written about them, most notably in the Man-Kzin Wars series of books. They have also shown up in the Star Trek universe, and a number of other realities.

"Kzinti flesh has a very strong and pungent taste. The weak among us are devoured by their litter-mates within a few moons of birthing. Only the swiftest and most ferocious of us survive to their first naming-day. Those not fit to survive will never live to perpetuate their inferior bloodlines. This is the natural law of the galaxy." - Kzinti Warrior

"The meaning of life is the hot blood of your prey on your tongue, the meat that rends beneath your teeth, the corpse of your enemy left in the sun for the carrion eaters to finish, your defeated foe groveling in submission before you. That is what life is. We are the Kzinti, and we stronger, swifter, wiser, and more ferocious than any other race ever was or will be." - Kzinti philosopher

A salute to all those heroic t'kzintar who have made this empire a resounding success. Our conquests continue and the galaxy will never know peace!

I only played the first one long ago Seth, so I'm not real familiar with it.

Sentient species taste better...

Try getting a Ps2 and try getting GTA III it's more easier. Anyways the one thing about GTA IV that I hate is the rap radio station plays all that mainstream crap.

hey furballs   :borg:

i just wanted to let y'all know that i'm starting a collection of links over on the ToE site. the idea is to gather some of the most useful and interesting posts related to GC2 (mainly from these forums, since they're so difficult to search) into a single place that we can all share. it's definately a work in progress, so any help from the more experienced players here would be much appreciated. and for anyone still learning, we might be a rival empire, but most of our site is open to public viewing and membership, so if you're interested don't hesitate to check it out. hopefully it'll become much more useful as the seasoned players provide and suggest the real gems in these forums' quite copious history. here's a direct link:

We're all brothers in evil-isn't that good enough?

Well, I don't have the inssecent need to lick every portion of my body (I said EVERY, so those...yeah), so that already sets me apart.

As I said over in your grounds...KP picked up someone 'outside of the (litter) box'.

Eating other sentient beings is not evil....just more challenging! ;)

I started another Swindle last night, playing on a huge all-abundant map.  I got to the swindle-point in December of year 0, which I think was a tiny bit slower than my most previous game.  I'm hoping to get near or surpass 700k with this one.  In my 662k game, it was a very fortunate setup and I had many beneficial random events, so we'll see how this one in progress stacks-up.

@dystopic

saw your tread last night, great idea.   even with google, it's hard to find anything here.   I don't have anything to contribute, but will undoubtably be a beneficiary.  thanks for your effort.

no problem. it really seems the Kzin and ToE (and allies like the Geckos) are the major inheritors of the MV legacy: i'm glad that we have a friendly rivalry, and i'm happy to help out any (fair) players still into the game.

I've finished year 1 of my latest huge all-abunant Swindle game, scoring 177,100 in my year end score-test.  If I get an economic boom sometime during year 2 I'm pretty certain I'll break 700k.

Things have been a bit harder to keep track of with MV functions not entirely working, but new warriors have joined our empire.  A great welcome to Random70, Mupkin, Chasbanner, StroppySquirrell, Jonnyjwol, Phreezerburn, & Xin-Juto!  :D

Also, welcome back to Noctilucus!

So the MV is down? huh whats going to happen when they fix it restart the whole thing?

If indiviual scores are updating and just the empires that aren't, then once it gets fixed, the empires will snap into place with thier member's scores.

The empire rankings just arent updating, you can still play MV games.  They havent commented yet if they are going to fix it or not.  It could be that the game is too late in it's life-cycle for them to want to spend time fixing it.  Like Loup says, if they fix it, there wont be any real changes.  They've got other more pressing things to work on like Elemental: War of Magic....something I've been waiting a long time for.

hey KP & SS, i revived the D&D thread on ToE since neilo should theoretically have internet access again soon. in theory at least. i figured it'd be a good time to start discussion logistical type stuff, etc. just thought i'd leave a note in here.

I get a out of memory error when saving. The error occurs in every game I upgrade a large number
of ships (16,000). In the past I've successfully saved after a few attempts.

I know this is an OLD and boring issue for most of you, but after spending hours in the support
threads, scrolling through hundreds of dbug files and finding nothing other than increase virtual
memory, I hoped someone could point me in the right direction or just let me know I'm screwed.

something I actually know the answer to :-)

The issue that you are encountering is the 2GB limit that is inherent and the critical flaw of 32 bit OS systems.  No amount of altering your virtual memory, paging files, or anything else will aid in your endeavor.

Its why Brad has made a point about it before, it hasn't *really* been an issue yet, but unless we fully switch to 64bit or higher, we will have a definite ceiling on what our games/programs are able to do.

the "magic number" most people say for a single upgrade is 17,000, not sure why you seem to have a lower cap.

in any case, there's nothing you can do about the memory limit. the number of ships you can upgrade in a single turn is a factor of how much memory a 32-bit program for windows XP can address (2 GB). if you have a lot of background applications running (other mem usage hitting 1.5 GB or close), turning some of them off might help you squeeze out that extra 1,000 ships to hit the 17,000 marker.

edit: SB beat me to the punch. but i answered from memory! ;P

the critical flaw of 32 bit OS systems

flaw? more like a limitation. no one planned for a program with a 2+ GB footprint the oh-so-many years ago when 32-bit OS's were developed.

SB also just pointed out that on TA, the "magic number" might be different - which is entirely true, as the 17,000 is only been tested by the ToE board of scientific inquiry (Mumblefratz) on DL and maybe DA (though if it's been tested on DA, DA probably did it).

thanks for the quick responses Silverbeacher & Dystopic

I've read Mumlbefratz' findings of the 17,000 limit and intentionally stayed under.  With 3g ram & .75g overhead, I did't forsee a problem.  Maybe it's Vista.

In my previous game the error occured.  But, instead of closing down,  the game saved after deleting 2,000 of 16,000 ships (I even received a message informing me of the deletion).  Do you think I've stumbled upon my threshold?

that's odd that it deleted 2k ships. there's no way that was the OS, but it's possible SD added something in to try and deal with the OOM problem.

even with only 0.75GB overhead, Vista really likes shuffling things in and out of memory (and page file). if you're video card has more than 512MB of VRAM, you might also be running up to the total memory limit. (RAM + VRAM + ~512MB for system caches <= 4GB).

is this in TA? if so, the limit you experienced and the 2k deleted ships makes me think that TA's memory usage works differently than previous editions.

no, i'm still old school DL 1.53

i thought it was very odd, but the deletion/save happened only once.  previously using DL 1.50, the game just closed.

well, KP is going to be pissed, this 400-500k game won't be added to the Kzinti Empire's coffers.

well, all's not lost if you have a previous turn's autosave. it might take more manual effort and more game time, but you could go through and upgrade 2k ships on the longest lease, and then do the massive upgrade. it'd probably ding your score a bit, but it'll still be severl hundred thousand points for the empire. there isn't a hard limit on the number of ships you can have, only on the number of ships the game can work with at once (in this case, the number of ships you can upgrade on the same turn).

PS: i highly doubt KP would be pissed |-)

there isn't a hard limit on the number of ships you can have,

For some reason I've never actually bothered to fill a galaxy with enough ships to test this.

Guess I'm gone for the day.  ;)
