For gaining XP in the early levels, check out this extremely useful thread: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/354405 Note that you get XP for the enemy creeps dying if you are nearby, even if you don't kill them yourself so you can level just by hanging out with a good creep killing buddy. You don't get gold though, it's not a good strategy, but worth knowing. You can focus on the enemy DG while your buddy Ao
NEWB
Regarding the purchase of inappropriate items, I'm guessing that this is semi-random. Wouldn't it be better if, even though it's less dynamic, the devs wrote out some prepared build paths for different DGs. So for example, UB would have a dozen set build paths, some ooze, some spit, etc. Spit ones might have a selection list of appropriate items when they had the money that included a mana-regen item, the ooze build would not have any mana-regen in its selection list. Okay - it's not full AI,
I'm going to retract my earlier statement even further. It still does stupid things, but I've just played a couple of tournament games and I think it's definitely playing better. At least the enemy AI is, not convinced my team mates are any better, but then it was on hard so they're supposed to be weaker, I guess. There needs to be a better way of making "Hard" and "Nightmare" tougher than making your team mates more likely to lose you the game, though.
Has the AI really been improved? Everytime an update comes down, I read through all the changes in it and I hadn't noticed any mention of AI improvements. I played Tournament on Hard and won, but still lost a couple of games due to the incredibly awful behaviour of my AI team mates. I noticed an Oak just standing around near a flag we already captured for nearly a minute, not moving at all. There was an enemy Regulus hovering near him that didn't appear to be doing anything either. I don't kn
*nevermind*
Okay, lets leave all the complaints about people's English and take a moment to think about Maths. If there's a ten to one chance of a crash in a game and a thousand players, this is how it breaks down: If the chance of an error occuring in the game is 10 to 1, and you have 10,000 players who each play ten games then Number of Players Having 10 successful games = 3,486 Number of Players Having 9 successful games = 3,874 Number of
I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Life Stealing items. Maybe my view is distorted because I'm mostly playing UB, and UB with decent life steal and melee focus (e.g. stat increases, inner beast) has frightening staying power at high levels. And you can incluce life-stealing with a decent damage-focused build. All I know is that when I'm in the upper levels and have Mageslayer and Namoth's ring, it takes some real focus to take me down. A separate point worth making here, is that a lot
Well I tried just hosting a "Newb Training" game in Custom. It was a lot of fun, though not really what I had in mind. There were connection problems in the lobby (never had that happen before! [e digicons]:|[/e] ) so we went to 2v2 just to get the game going. The map was Cataract. Abilities were a bit of a mix. One plenty good Rook, one not bad Sedna but definitely benefiting from her teammate's skill (I say 'her' because it was Sedna - no idea, really) and one TB who struggl
Thanks for the replies people. Dariyen - that's my main concern: how can I manage to actually get newbie players rather than some sad individual who just wants to smash people. And then the answer came to me that I can't. I'll just have to label the game "Newb Training 2v3" and hope it goes well. That's how life goes. :) Proximity - the public vent server sounds good, but I don't know much about how all this works. I just click Internet->Host Game and don't know much more. What I'l
A number of posts here on the subject of dealing with Newb players (and I'm only just getting out of that category myself) made me think it might be good to have some Newb "training games". Make then 2v3, 3v4, 3v5 with a 1 or 2 good players on the weaker side and it would still be fun. At least I reckon I'd enjoy it. What does anyone else think?
What Jaxian says above rings true for me. The only way I get anywhere on Nightmare is playing UB. UB, properly equipped and with the right skills (oddly enough, Ooze, not Spit), is a Demigod killer. And that's what you need because your AI teammates will be doing their best to repeatedly die to enemy DGs, and the only way you can counter that is to try to keep the enemy DGs dead for as much of the game as possible. I like UB with Ooze and a bit of armour / health regen
Never EVER should an upgrade give your enemies such a huge advantage. Its a CLEAR design flaw. I would get it of priests say had a neutral effect. You can find that information from webresources like http://www.demigoddb.com/ http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pmbS09ByNPGE-hT1mq5_XBQ http://www.gamereplays.org/demigod/ and http://demigod.wikia.com/wiki/Demigod_Wiki It would take a significant effort to accumulate all that information into a well formatted, proofread, publishable guide. The manual is pretty poor. I want to know how Armour affects the damage I take. I want to know how dodging works. I want to know what percentage of the gold I get for an assist vs. a kill and whether more than one person can get the assist (and if they do is gold for the assist divided or does the team get more gold in total). I want to know if I can stack the life steal from Mage Slayer with Namoth's Ring, with Ashkendor and whether then boosting my weapon damage and attack speed with Bestia
I started off with UB as my first DG and still play it. My first builds were always reliant on spit. It's great for getting that first blow in before you pounce on an enemy DG and it's even good for laying down some continuing damage on them as they try to flee back into their towers or teleport. Nice for towers, too. But I'm now playing with an UB without any spit at all. From the posts in this thread, you'd think I was insane for doing so, but I actually find that a p
It never occured to me that "stealing a kill" was disapproved of. We're all on the same side. Sure, I like to look at my stats at the end of the game and see how much of a part I played for my team, but I don't begrudge anyone happening to get the kill where I did prep work for them. Maybe if I were sure of killing people, but I never, ever am. I play the game in a state of pure panic from start to finish. I've selected my first power and clicked on the shop before the
When you tried it, did you alter the default settings under "Video" ? I don't know how much difference they will make, but you can set everything lower (detail level, turn off aliasing, etc) and this should help. Sometimes there is a tipping point with computers where a small change makes a large difference in outcome. And ignore Chaosnaska (even if it was quite funny). I wouldn't buy it out of sheer optimism though. If it wont run well, I'd save the money for a new graphics ca
It seems to me that telling a new player not to die is roughly equivalent to telling a software engineer to 'fix the bug'. Common sense, really, I doubt people try to die constantly as a strategy, but definitely easier said than done.
Actually, it really was the best bit of advice I got. My first games were distinguished by me charging in and dying. I tried to refine that by learning to do more damage before I died
I don't care that it's 1.8GB if your webhost doesn't. :D I'm downloading at 10% so far and looking forward to this. I enjoyed Multianna's game vid recently, I'm sure yours will be even more entertaining given how experienced the players are. Hopefully I'll learn something. Sorry - Newb question, but how do you record a game like this?
Well it works so that's a relief. Turns out I'm crap at the game, though! :(
I so shouldn't be doing this without a demo, but I've bought it. It's downloading now. I hope this works. The customer service page says they'll refund 75% if the product doesn't work because your machine doesn't meet the minimum specs. It's a bit of a process to get it back, though. Will know in about ten minutes, probably. : / Thanks all, TNNNN
Can't answer your questions, but I'll add my voice to the pleas for a demo. I'm getting mixed messages over whether or not DG will play on my XP 64-bit system and am reluctant to buy without a demo to test. They do demos for most of their other games... :(
Thanks for all replies. I know that it's supposed to run fine on Vista 64, but I have XP. Torval - if it's okay for you I'm almost tempted to buy it on the off-chance. I'm a bit wary though. I'm not sure if I can get a refund if I buy it as a digital download.
I almost bought Demigod earlier, then noticed that the technical requirements listed in Impulse (but not on the Demigod website) said that only Windows 32-bit with Service Pack 3 was supported. I have Windows XP Professional 64-bit. Can anyone tell me whether or not I can run Demigod? It would be right about now that a demo version would be useful. *hint hint* ;) I'm only a very occasional gamer so there's no way I'm replacing a nice working OS installation just to play a game. <
Hi, I was going to create a thread on this myself but I searched first and found this. I have Windows XP Professional 64-bit edition. Can I run Demigod on it or not? I almost bought it (which I'd never normally do without a demo), but then the requirements in Impulse (which does run fine), stated that it was XP 32-bit only. This isn't listed on the requirements page online. BigChewy - did you have any luck with ainuke's "tricks" or a response from support? I'm only a [i]very[/
